Coronation Street has aired a sweet moment for David and Shona Platt following Corriedale's multiple-vehicle crash.
In tonight's episode, Shona underwent a delicate surgery to give birth to her baby, who had previously been diagnosed with a tumour.
Before the operation, David couldn't sleep and paid Bernie Winter-Alahan a visit for an early morning cuppa. As the duo was chatting about the tragic loss of Billy Mayhew in the accident, a man entered the cafe.
He put his foot in his mouth, assuming Billy's sexuality after reading of the vicar's death in the paper. A less than impressed Bernie gave him the cold shoulder.
The day didn't start on a good note for David. His cab didn't show up and had to drive to the hospital, despite having suffered a concussion.
At the hospital parking lot, the same man from Bernie's cafe stole David's spot.
To David's surprise, he was revealed to be Vincent Harper, the consultant surgeon who would perform the surgery on Shona and the baby. Harper had driven from Bristol to operate on Shona on his birthday as their doctor was stuck in Lithuania after a cancelled flight.
Luckily, the operation went smoothly, though Harper had to perform a temporary tracheostomy on the baby, who was transferred to the neonatal ICU until she'd be strong enough for the tumour removal.
There, David had a chat with Harper, as both apologised for the parking incident earlier that day.
Harper was cautiously optimistic about the baby's condition.
"There's a long way to go, but it's a very good result so far," the doctor said.
As they were chatting, Harper revealed it was his birthday, with David exclaiming: "You've got the same birthday! No way!"
"You've got a lot to live up to," David added to his daughter.
Later on, David and Shona went to see the baby, with David asking his wife if she'd settled on a name.
"She's gonna make it, babe, I know she is," David said as Shona was pensive, she added that she wouldn't want to "tempt fate" by picking a name.
"I did," David said. "What about Harper?"
"It sounds good, don't it? You know, Harper Platt," he continued. "Like a woman who would run through fire for you."
"Well, I love it, and she loves it, too," Shona said, smiling.
On his way back south, Harper stopped at Bernie's again for a pie and a tea.
She opened up about Billy being his son-in-law and that she'd closing early as she wasn't feeling great. Harper offered his condolences and reached for his wallet, but Bernie said his lunch was on the house.
