Even though Julie had terminal cancer, I thought that the police would still have been called for a sudden death, instead of just allowing her body to be taken to George's.

Sudden unexplained death would have needed autopsy.. but no need for it to be shown, I guess.. soapland like to skip time events that are not deemed necessary for viewers to understand the storyline
