EastEnders airs emotional scenes tonight (August 21) as Kathy Beale sees her son Ian for the first time in years.

Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) comes into close contact with Ian by chance after Phil Mitchell's secretive behaviour begins to arouse suspicion.

The tense situation unfolds following Sharon's discovery of texts from "K" on Phil's phone, which has left her worried that he has another woman.

When Phil (Steve McFadden) angrily grabs his mobile back from Sharon, he sees that he needs to meet Kathy at St Pancras and makes an excuse to rush off.

Convinced that something dodgy is going on, Ian (Adam Woodyatt) and Sharon (Letitia Dean) decide to follow Phil to the station to find out what he's up to.

Tired of playing games, Sharon confronts Phil just as Kathy arrives to meet him. How will Kathy react when she finds herself under the same roof as her son?

I don't agree, however, about whether Bobby or Denny are worse than the other. In my eyes, they're as bad as each other.

I think it depends really on what Bobby's circumstances were. If he's got that psycho-condition we talked about in another topic, then he can't control his anger, whereas Denny from what I can tell is just doing it for kicks. If, however, everything was all due to all the trauma Bobby's suffered over the past few years, with all the trouble with Ian and Lucy, then he just lost it temporary, but Denny seems to be doing this kind of thing regularly.

The only difference is that Denny has not yet killed anyone, but if he keeps going the way he is, chances are someday if he's not careful then he will kill someone, even if it is accidental. That's how it starts off; kids start bullying someone, and if they're not shown the error of their ways then they'll just doing it until it gets worse, and one day they'll go too far and might kill someone.

I think the writers have gone out of their way to show Bobby as a bit evil. Remember, when he attacked Lucy it was unprovoked, so I'm not sure it can be explained as a fit of temper. Sure, he was upset that she was causing trouble within the family, but there was nothing going on at the moment he struck her. It seems to have been a pre-meditated act.

Denny has the potential to go either way in my opinion. With good parenting, I think he's still young enough to grow into a decent enough young man (admittedly that's unlikely to happen ).

I'm not sure if Bobby can be counted as evil. He's definitely troubled, but again we don't know yet his circumstances. If it's that psycho-condition then he can't help himself, and if it's not then, like you said, Lucy was causing a lot of trouble, which may have led to him experiencing some complicated but induced trauma (Bobby: "She was making everyone unhappy"), and Lucy's death and supposedly unsolved murder added to that, together now with the supposed revelation that Max is the guilty party. He thinks Max killed his sister, and he can't face him and have it out with him, as anyone would want to when the person responsible for their loved ones' death is found, which is adding more grief and anger. It's all very complicated.

As for the pre-meditated act on Lucy's murder; don't forget that Bobby's still a kid. Kids tend to lash out without thinking things clearly. He might have been feeling all the aggro from all the fighting and everything, and when he faced Lucy he just lashed out.

And I agree totally about Denny. Although, like you said, that's unlikely to happen unless Sharon opens her eyes and sees what's really happening with her son. At this rate, he'll be joining Bobby in prison.

As for the pre-meditated act on Lucy's murder; don't forget that Bobby's still a kid. Kids tend to lash out without thinking things clearly. He might have been feeling all the aggro from all the fighting and everything, and when he faced Lucy he just lashed out.

The point I'm trying to make though is it doesn't seem to me that Bobby lashed out at Lucy. She was sitting on the settee and was perfectly friendly towards him when she saw him, so there was no immediate provocation.

He may be a kid but he was over the age of criminal responsibility when he hit, her so he's considered old enough to knowingly commit a crime. We saw his demeanour straight after Lucy's death (and also when he tried to attack Phil with the golf club) and he didn't appear to have lost control of himself.

The words "she was making everyone unhappy" sound like he was trying to punish her to me, which would be premeditated given they weren't in the midst of an argument.

The truth is though that it'll be impossible to know exactly what was going on in Bobby's head when he killed Lucy until we hear him speak about it.
