    2701: Zoe's trial commences
Airs on Monday, November 30 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

It is the first day of Zoe's murder trial and a worried Zak, Kris and Nancy wait to offer their support for Zoe. Zak's reluctant to go into court but is persuaded otherwise by his friends who insist that Zoe needs them in her hour of need.

While a frustrated Archie waits outside, Kingsley goes in to give evidence. He tells the court that Lydia had confided in him about her fears of Zoe and her attempts to sabotage Lydia and Sarah's relationship. Zoe's horrified.

As Lydia's about to take her oath, she catches Zoe's eye and although it spooks her a little, she manages to regain her composure. Lydia tells the court that Zoe was jealous of their relationship. She lies about what happened the night before Sarah died, claiming that she heard an aggressive Zoe making a pass at a defenceless Sarah.

Sitting in the dock, Zoe fears that Lydia's delivered the final blow.

Meanwhile, things are still tense between Jack and Darren. When Jack's car breaks down in the village, Darren walks past and offers his help. A frustrated Jack doesn't want Darren involved following his recent mishap with the Christmas lights. Theresa happens to be passing and shocks the two of them when she looks into the engine and instantly knows what's wrong.

With Jack distracted by the car, Darren approaches Theresa with a proposition - if she fixes Jack's car free of charge, then he'll wine and dine her at Il Gnosh. Theresa agrees and Jack gives her the go ahead. Theresa seems fairly competent but things go awry when an over-enthusiastic Darren becomes involved. Frustrated, Jack tells Darren and Theresa to stay away, leaving a hapless Darren feeling useless.

Theresa's determined that Darren keeps his promise and so he takes her to Il Gnosh. As they enjoy their meal, Hannah walks in and sees them together. Hannah seems angry but when Darren returns home, she pours herself a drink and forgets all about it, leaving Darren a little bemused.

Elsewhere, Josh is still lusting after India, much to Rhys's amusement. When India arrives at The Dog to watch a gig organised by Rhys, he attempts to show Josh where he's going wrong. However, when India's credit card is rejected, it's Josh who rushes to her rescue, offering to arrange a shift for her at The Dog to pay what she owes. A frustrated Rhys watches on as India gives Josh a thank you kiss.

2702: Cheryl chooses Gilly over Calvin
Airs on Tuesday, December 1 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

Charlotte offers to support Lydia in court but she declines, insisting that they should keep their relationship secret for a while. Lydia tells the court about her previous suicide attempts and explains that she wished it was her that died, not Sarah. Zoe's shocked and although she knows that Lydia's lying, she's concerned by how convincing she is.

As Lydia continues to give evidence, Charlotte sneaks into the back of the court. She hears Lydia telling the court how much she loved Sarah and during the break, quizzes Lydia about it.

As the case continues, the knife that was used to cut the parachute is shown around the court. Lydia panics as Charlotte's sat next to her. She knows that if she sees the knife, she'll recognise it as hers - and in turn, realise who was really to blame for Sarah's death. Lydia feigns illness and hurries Charlotte out of the courtroom. However just before leaving, Charlotte spots the knife and her reaction is obvious.

When they return to the halls, Charlotte quizzes Lydia. Lydia tries to lie, but a determined Charlotte forces her to admit the truth - Lydia was the one who cut the parachute and killed Sarah. Lydia explains that it was meant for her and she wanted to die. As Charlotte tries to convince Lydia to come clean, Lydia tells her that if she went to prison, she would kill herself.

Meanwhile, Cheryl's planning a Caribbean meal for the Valentines' and invites Gilly along. When Calvin and Leo try and wriggle out of it, Lauren's annoyed - Cheryl's doing a nice thing and they should be grateful. When Cheryl leaves to get ready, Leo asks Calvin if he regrets never asking Cheryl out when he had the chance.

Much to Lauren's horror, Calvin tells them that Gilly's being used to make him jealous and if he wanted Cheryl, he could still have her. Gilly, having totally misunderstood the theme of the party, arrives dressed as Jack Sparrow and the night goes from bad to worse. Lauren tells everyone what Calvin said about Cheryl earlier, which results in Gilly threatening to take Calvin outside.

After things have calmed down, Cheryl walks Gilly to the door and they share a moment. She admits that at the beginning of their relationship, she wanted to make Calvin jealous but things have changed. Cheryl's finally over Calvin and doesn't even bother giving him a second look.

Elsewhere, it's India's first day working at The Dog and Josh has made an effort. He works hard to help her get to grips with things and when India overhears Gilly and Rhys talking about Calvin, she tells them how much she likes him.

Rhys worries that Josh is going to get hurt and tries to warn him about what could happen. Rhys's good intentions don't go to plan and after a few failed attempts to tell Josh privately, he announces it in front of India, humiliating Josh in the process.

2703: Zoe takes the stand in court
Airs on Wednesday, December 2 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

As the murder trial continues, it's Zoe's big day in court. Everyone's anxious as they arrive, especially Zak who's nervous about seeing Zoe after walking out the previous day. Kris refuses to stay away, but has an excruciating wait in the corridor after being thrown out yesterday. Kris discovers that Amy's been outside the courtroom every day of the trial but he's angry when she instantly dismisses Zoe's innocence. Kris then tells her to go into the courtroom and listen to what Zoe has to say.

The prosecution commences with the pathologist's report and everyone struggles to hold in their emotions as they listen to the harrowing details of Sarah's death. It all proves too much for Amy as she screams at Zoe for killing her sister, before running out.

Zoe finally has her moment in court and takes the stand as she's put through some gruelling questions by the prosecution and is left completely bewildered and emotionally exhausted by her ordeal.

As the barristers give their closing statements, the prospect of facing a prison sentence kicks in for Zoe as the members of the jury retire to consider their verdict.

Charlotte's tormented by Lydia's revelation and doesn't know what to do. She almost confides in Dave when he sees that she's upset but Charlotte can't go through with it. Charlotte heads over to the court and arrives just in time to rescue Lydia from Nancy, Kris and Archie's attack. They're angry by her lies but unable to prove anything.

Meanwhile, Gilly's suffering following Cheryl's Caribbean cuisine the previous evening but is forced to endure her over-zealous ways of nursing him back to health. Rhys takes great delight in seeing him in pain and winds him up by letting Cheryl into the house to look after him, even though Gilly begs him not to. Rhys makes a sharp exit and Gilly is forced to feign delight but he can't take much more of Cheryl's homemade cures and makes a sharp exit himself when Suzanne arrives home and distracts her.

Gilly's mortified when Steph sees him looking awful and tries to avoid her but he's totally smitten when she takes him by the hand and gently looks after him. During a heart-to-heart with Suzanne, Cheryl realises just how much she likes Gilly - just as Gilly decides he doesn't want to be with her anymore…

Elsewhere, Anita's fed up about being on her own and tries to befriend Theresa. Theresa, however, just makes fun of her and asks what illness she's making up this week, before stomping off.

Desperate to put things right between them, Anita goes after her and begs her to listen to the reasons behind her illness lie. After the initial awkwardness, Theresa listens to what Anita has to say and before long, the friends are reunited.

2704: The foreman delivers the verdict in Zoe's trial
Airs on Thursday, December 3 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

With the verdict of her trial due today, Zoe can only pray for a miracle - she's adamant that she'll be found guilty of killing Sarah. All her supporters arrive at the court, anxious over the outcome for their friend. Tensions run high and as the trial resumes, everyone's left confused as Mike unexpectedly takes to the stand with Sarah's diary.

Mike admits that after reading the new evidence, he believes that Sarah may have taken her own life. The revelation leaves the courtroom speechless. Amy, however, is furious.

Later, everyone's on tenterhooks as the juror stands to deliver the verdict…

Charlotte, meanwhile, is still struggling to deal with her guilt after Lydia confessed that she sabotaged Sarah's parachute. She's desperate to tell Dave but each time she comes close, she's reminded about Lydia's threat to kill herself if anyone ever found out.

While moving some of Lydia's belongings, Charlotte finds a diary belonging to Sarah. After reading some of the recent entries, Charlotte's furious to discover the lies that Lydia told Sarah about herself. After confronting Lydia, Charlotte persuades her to hand the diary over to Mike.

Meanwhile, having decided to dump Cheryl, Gilly realises that he now has to find a way of telling her. Just as he's about to pluck up the courage to tell her, they're interrupted by Steph and Fernando, who invite them to a dance class. Gilly can't think of anything worse, but when Steph suggests that they can't handle it, Cheryl's furious and challenges Steph to a dance off.

Fernando and Gilly look on bemused as the girls set to work in an attempt to out-dance each other. An argument between Steph and Fernando soon erupts, much to Gilly's delight and it's not long before the pair leave.

Cheryl and Gilly celebrate their victory alone and to their surprise, they realise how much fun they've had together. Before they know it, they're kissing each other passionately.

Elsewhere, Anita's on a mission to lose her virginity and has decided that Ricky's the ideal lad to help her. Theresa, however, isn't so sure about her choice, believing that Anita can do better. Despite her concern, Theresa helps her friend glam up anyway.

When Anita seductively asks Ricky to meet her at the shack, Duncan's gobsmacked that Ricky's about to get lucky. Despite his mate's encouragement, Ricky's not so excited. As he arrives at the shack he's immediately on edge.

Anita simply wants the deed over and done with but her best efforts to seduce him only make him more nervous and Ricky flees from the shack, leaving Anita alone and embarrassed.

    2705: Anita's furious about Ricky's lies
Airs on Friday, December 4 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

Theresa's desperate for the gossip after Anita's romantic liaison with Ricky. However, she's shocked to hear that he failed to perform. Anita's mortified by the rejection, which is further compounded when a tactless Theresa asserts that she, too, would be ashamed to be turned down by a 15-year-old virgin.

Meanwhile, a hapless Ricky is too embarrassed to stop Duncan and his furtive imagination. Overhearing Duncan boasting about Ricky's prowess in bedroom, Anita's mortified by Ricky's lies. Making amends, Ricky gives Anita flowers and apologies. Anita gracefully accepts the apology until he declares that he doesn't want anyone to know that he's still a virgin.

Furious by his insensitivity, Anita flees, leaving Ricky feeling rubbish. Ricky eventually realises that honesty is the best policy and tells Duncan that it wasn't the right time for him and Anita to consummate their relationship.

Surprised by his sincerity, Anita admonishes him before telling him not to lie again.

Elsewhere, Cheryl and Gilly's relationship has stepped up a gear having spent the night together. In Mobs, Steph's surprised when a nervous Gilly calls by and a giddy Cheryl drops her fruit. Steph realises that something's going on and wants to know everything.

Listening to Cheryl's tales of seduction, Steph suggests that maybe dating would be better than going all the way on a first date. Rhys, however, tells Gilly to enjoy the no-strings fun while he can!

Receiving a call from Cheryl, Gilly thinks that she's offering a repeat of last nights action. When he arrives, though, and finds plans for a dirty weekend with her new 'feller' on the cards, alarm bells begin to toll…

    Zoë Lister Interview

It's not every day you stand trial on suspicion of killing your best friend in a freak parachute incident, but Hollyoaks' Zoe Carpenter - played by 27-year-old Zoë Lister - finds herself in exactly that predicament as she faces action over the attempted murder of Sarah Barnes. Zoe finally has her day in court next week and while her friends and family turn out in force to support her, she's resigned herself to a long stretch in prison. Lydia's (Lydia Kelly) account is thoroughly convincing, but when Charlotte (Amy Yamazaki) makes a sudden realisation about a certain sharp object and a new piece of evidence comes to light, will justice be served and Zoe be found not guilty? Or will she be sent down for a murder she didn't commit? We dropped by the Hollyoaks set in Liverpool to catch up with Zoë to find out more.

What did you think of the parachute jump episode in Hollyoaks Later when you watched it back?
"I loved it! I was so proud when I watched it back. It was so powerful. The whole sequence was amazing, with the music. It was such a long sequence and even though you knew what was going to happen, it was great to watch."

How's Zoe been coping with prison life?
"Not very well! It's all completely overwhelming for her. She can't get her head around the fact that her best friend's dead and the fact that she's being accused of murdering her is ridiculous. She's worried that because it's got this far its ludicrous, so who's to say that she won't be sent down?"

Who turns out to support her during the trial?
"Archie, her brother, has been a really great support throughout the whole thing. Kris is there shouting away in court, Nancy's also there. Zak's there, too, and he has a bit of a hard time dealing with it all. Zoe's father is there, too, as is her mum. Her mum's only there for the first day, though - after that, she disowns her a little. Zoe's mum's a very proud woman and she's ashamed that her daughter's in prison. That on top of the lesbian issue is too much for her."

Kris has an interesting view on it all, doesn't he?
"Definitely. Kris is a massive supporter of Zoe's but while everyone else is telling her that she'll be found not guilty, Kris tells Archie that although he loves Zoe to bits and knows she didn't kill Sarah, he insists that she'll be found guilty because that's how the justice system works."

How does Zoe feel when Lydia takes the stand?
"Zoe knows that Lydia's going to stand there and lie to Zoe, it's obvious that Lydia planted the knife. Zoe's just wondering what lies Lydia's going to come up with next. Lydia's actually really convincing and after the first day, Zoe almost resigns herself to the fact that she's going to prison. Zoe knows the truth, though - she knows she's innocent, so she really has to fight for justice for Sarah and herself."

The knife plays an important role during trial week, too…
"Yeah, the evidence that the prosecution has is that the knife used to cut Sarah's parachute cords was found in Zoe's back pack. Charlotte, though, recognises the knife and realises that it's Lydia's, so that all spirals out of court. It's a question of whether Charlotte will come clean as to the identity of the knife's real owner."

How does Zoe cope while she's giving evidence?
"It's not great at all. The prosecution rip her to bits and she comes across as this unhinged obsessed girl who's very capable of cutting the parachute cords."

How can people get Zoe and Lydia so wrong?
"I don't know! Lydia's just wheedled in there with Mike and it's just made Zoe look like the bad person. Zoe has got herself into a bit of trouble throughout the year and now it's all come together to make her look like a woman on the edge!"

How does Sarah's diary come to light?
"Lydia has this old diary of Sarah's and Charlotte finds it on the last day of the trial. But because of Lydia's threats to kill herself if the truth comes out, Charlotte gives it to Mike and takes it into court. Zoe's panicking about the verdict in court and all of a sudden a new witness comes to light and Mike walks into the courtroom with the diary. So that's a bit of a lifeline for Zoe, but will it be enough to save her from a long spell in prison?"
