RICHARD Gere is in talks to appear on Strictly as anxious bosses desperately try to compete with the X Factor.
They want the Pretty Woman actor, 60, to team up with Phil Tufnell's partner Katya Virshilas for a one-off dance.

The pair worked together in 2004 on Richard's romcom Shall We Dance, which also starred Jennifer Lopez.

A source told TV Biz: "The BBC is desperate to woo back viewers who have switched to the X Factor.

"ITV is hammering the show in the ratings so bosses think getting some high-profile names on will do the trick. Mariah Carey and Pamela Anderson are also being lined up."

Strictly refused to confirm if Gere would feature.

A spokesman would say only that producers were in talks with several celebrities about going on the show.

X FACTOR champ Leona Lewis reckons it would be fun to return to the show as a judge.
She said: "It would be fun. But I don't know if I'd be a good judge because I'd just say yes and let everyone through. I wouldn't be able to turn anyone away."

Meanwhile, the singer, 24, said she can't wait to meet the girls when she performs her new single Happy on the show on November 8.

Leona said: "I can't wait to meet everyone, but I'm mostly looking forward to seeing the girls.

"They are aspiring towards the same things as me when I was on the show and are going through a similar experience."

Olly Murs and Jamie Archer have performed a cover of Cheryl Cole's number one single 'Fight For This Love'.

The duo, who are in Simon Cowell's Over-25s category, have been filmed playing the track at the X Factor house.

"We are going to do a live lounge. This is going to be a new version of 'Fight For This Love' by Cheryl Cole. This is for you Cheryl," says Murs. Archer plays acoustic guitar on the track and joins Murs for the chorus and backing vocals.

Midway through the performance, Murs changes the lyrics to: "We're sitting here in the Over-25s room, chilling out with Cheryl Cole... outside there's loads of fans screaming, 'We love the Afro man'."

Archer also attempts to imitate the dance routine Cole performed on The X Factor results show two weeks ago.

X Factor continues next Saturday on ITV1, when the final nine contestants will be performing with a Rock Week theme.

X Factor bosses have met with police over complaints from Golder's Green locals about the contestants' house.

According to The Sun, the £6 million property may be shut down because of the lewd behaviour of female girls who are visiting the building.

Teenagers have apparently been flashing their breasts at twin brothers John & Edward when they have appeared at the windows.

Local Alexander Netsler, who contacted police on Sunday, said: "I saw a girl who must have been only about 14 lifting up her top to flash at the twins. I had to look away. With all these young girls about it is attracting dirty old men to come and stare at them.

"These girls - some as young as 11 - are writing pornographic messages on the barriers. They are also writing their phone numbers on the walls, and no-one is doing anything about it. It is encouraging the sexualisation of young girls and it should be stopped."

Police are now patrolling the grounds, but neighbours are apparently threatening to stage their own protest.

"We're sick to the back teeth of all the disruption this is causing and if the police don't sort it we will," said an unnamed local. "The people round here are extremely wealthy and have their own personal security. If necessary, we will blockade the street and stop the crowd ourselves."

An X Factor spokesperson commented: "The X Factor has ongoing liaisons with the police to ensure that all security measures are in place. Safety is of paramount importance to us."
