and Abi thank you, english lit is my fav out of the 2 of them, so that was the one i was edging to, do you know if doing english lit on its own would look better than doing english lit and lang (in one not seperate), and one of my teachers is a pe teacher and an english teacher and my mum said they would go nice together aswell

    1. Do you like to find out the original meanings of words?

    4. When you read a good poem, does it make your "toenails twinkle?" (Dylan Thomas.)
    5. Do you want to know why we use slang and 'bad' language?
    6. Have you read at least one book for pleasure this year?
    7. Have you wondered why there are so many rude names for women?
    8. Do you like discussing how an author makes characters work in a novel?
    9. Would you like to find out who interrupts more: men or women?
    10. Would you like to find out more about hyperbole, irony and synecdoche?
    11. Do you think it matters whether we call someone 'disabled' or 'differently abled'?
    12. When you watch tv, do you prefer drama or documentaries and factual programmes?
    13. Are you, or would you like to be good at identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs?
    14. Do you enjoy discussing films with your friends?
    15. Would you like to find out why children say things like, "Those mouses standed up, mummy!"
    16. Have you seen and enjoyed more than or fewer than two of these films: Shakespeare in Love, Clueless and Baz Luhrman's 'Romeo and Juliet'?
    17. Would you like to know how your body language could signal that you are ready to dump your girlfriend/boyfriend?
    18. Do you like creative writing?
    19. Do you like analysing fictional texts and their effect on the reader?
    20. Do you like analysing language and seeing how it works?
    21. Do you like finding out about the historical context of the fiction that you read?
    22. Do you like to read and interpret fiction independently?
    23. When you go into W H Smith's, do you go straight to the newspapers or browse among the novels?
    24. Would you be interested in learning about how the structure of poems relates to their meaning?

So basically, answer yes or no to each question unless it gives you options, and I'll do the scoring for you

Thats ok. When i was choosing my A Levels, no one told me what unis would prefer. Looking back, i wouldn't have chosen 1 of my subjects if they had. I do English Literature, and its really good actually. You have to be good at looking at things closely, and making your own interpretations as to what it could mean. And you want to get your balance of subjects right. PE, psyc and English Literature is quite balanced. I dont think it would be very balanced if you did Lang.

The head and deputy head of Sixth Form didn't mention good combinations at the open evening I had this week, either. I think it depends on whether you feel you can talk to the teacher, because I felt I could ask one of mine if Applied Business and Economics was a bad idea, and she told me that the reason they don't do Business as an academic subject is because universities won't like the two of them together if it was an academic subject.

My prospectus says that at A2 for Lit, you have to work individually on two books of your choice, so the independence would surely be a good thing. And Lit would show you can communicate your ideas.

    Yeah sure, Lea

Maths is hard. I was predicted an A/A* for GCSE. I got a B but that was because I had a lot of problems in Yr11. Some of my friends that have taken maths say it is harder than they expected and they don't really understand it and most of them got an A. I did four weeks of it and gave it up. I had no idea what the teacher was talking about.

We were told you need a B to be accepted on the course but other places may have different criteria.

I'd also advise against biology. It is so hard and a third of the course is on biochemistry so if you aren't any good at chem don't do biology.

If I could go back and choose my subjects again I'd do ICT, Business (already doing it) and possibly Lit. I definitely wouldn't take any science subject.

Had my niece since Friday. Its been a great weekend, she's so funny at the moment. She came with a really wierd accent (mum is yorkshire, dad is geordie) so we've all been laughing at the way she says some words.

Need to write my personal statement tonight so my tutor can look at it tomorrow. Only four weeks until the end of term.
    Thanks CrazyLea

Been an alright day, though we got a lecture. Apparently us Year 12s look "bored" in lessons and we are demoralising the teachers! I don't know what they expect us to do, I hope I don't look bored - but if I do, it's just my natural look and I can't help that. I'm getting my school report soon and I have a feeling that they will say how I lack contribution in lessons, but I really can't help it as i'm just quiet - will try and improve in that area though.

Also, kinda peed my friend off - I promised to go to his gig on Wednesday night but my parents aren't letting me now as I have to catch the train there and back, and it's a really rough place that I'm going too - it was only a few months ago that someone got shot dead in that particular area, so I wasn't keen on going either.
