The Sun revealed that the romance began after Rob joined the show last year, and the new couple have even been enjoying double dates with co-star Catherine Tyldesley and her husband Tom Pitfield.

Confirming the news on Twitter this afternoon, Daniel said: "It's true! @Rob_Mallard only came round to put some shelves up & it went from there... #LoveIsInTheAir"

Following on from Daniel's message with a cheeky tweet of his own, Rob said: "Thanks for all of the kind comments! I have indeed bagged the 'notorious' @Dan_Brocklebank (batteries not included)."

Kym Marsh joined in on the love, quipping to Rob: "I didn't even know you were gay."

Daniel joined Corrie in late 2014, with his character Billy Mayhew going on to have a romance with barman Sean Tully, before dumping him for Todd Grimshaw.

Rob publicly opened up about his sexuality for the first time earlier this year, stressing that he never planned to keep his sexuality a secret.

Coronation Street actor Mark Eden has died at the age of 92.

Mark, who played the legendary Corrie villain Alan Bradley, died earlier today after living with Alzheimer's.

The actor played Alan Bradley for three years and his abusive character is famed for the scene in which he was struck and killed by a Blackpool tram while chasing his partner Rita Fairclough in 1989.

Mark had been married to fellow Weatherfield icon Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey Roberts in the soap, since 1993.

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has hinted that he'll be involved in the soap's upcoming crossover with Emmerdale.

The actor, who plays David Platt, teased the special episode while catching up with us on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards.

Fans are eagerly awaiting cast and storyline details after ITV recently announced that Corrie and Emmerdale will join forces for an hour-long special, due to air in January.

The episode will feature characters from both soaps, who become embroiled in "an ambitious stunt" which has "everlasting consequences for everyone involved".

When we asked Jack if he'll be involved, he confidently replied: "Yes!"

His co-star Ben Price, who plays David's brother Nick Tilsley, quickly interjected: "Are you meant to say that?"

    Jack admitted: "I don't know!"

After Ben wisely advised that it wasn't a good idea to give any details away, Jack then replied: "I don't know if I am. Not for a fact, I don't.

"The big key hitters, I think they might have been told. There's rumours ? and I'm sniffing that I might be in the periphery."

He then laughed: "With my Yorkshire accent. I think I'm in it, talking Yorkshire and they're like: 'Where are you from? Are you from Bradford?'"

Jack expressed hope that he could share some screen time with Emmerdale's Dominic Brunt (Paddy Dingle), who recently shared his ambition to be in the episode.

Jack said: "Maybe I'll take David the dog. I'll take David the dog to the vets. Paddy could help me out, that'd be good ? Dominic!"

Corrie and Emmerdale's crossover marks the beginning of a new 8pm 'power hour' for the ITV soaps from next year. Both shows will switch to airing every weeknight from 8pm, screening five 30-minute episodes per week.
