    DISARMING BRITAIN
    A gun and knife crime season on Channel 4, starting on Monday 30 June 2008 at 7.50pm. Channel 4 takes an unflinching look at the increasing use of violence and weapons by young people on our nation's streets.

    Facing up to some uncomfortable truths about gun and knife crime, the season explores the effect of this disturbing trend on offenders, victims and society at large.


    7.50pm - The Mother's Story. 1 of 5. Series about gang-related violence. Tonight, a mother shows the bullet hole-riddled jacket her son was wearing when he died.

    8.00 - Dispatches - The Truth About Street Weapons.

    2008 has seen a staggering number of teenage gang and knife attacks on Britain's streets with a death toll comparable to that of our troops fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. Dr Tunje Lasoye, Head of Accident and Emergency in London's Kings College Hospital, believes this surge in extreme violence is nothing short of a health emergency

    9.00 - Kids, Knives and Broken Lives - As part of the Disarming Britain season, a major new season examining the effect of gun and knife crime on Britain's streets, Kids, Knives and Broken Lives investigates why so many young people regularly take to the streets of Britain armed with guns and knives.

    In a major new season, Disarming Britain, Channel 4 examines the effect of gun and knife crime on Britain's streets. In tonight's Birmingham hearing, the Commission hears moving testimony from Barbara Sawyers - whose son Daniel was shot dead aged 19 - on the impact of youth violence on those left behind.

    Fallout is a one-off gripping drama, adapted by award-winning playwright Roy Williams from his acclaimed stage play. The drama is the centre piece of Disarming Britain, a season of programmes on Channel 4 that examine gun and knife culture. Set in London, Fallout stars Lennie James as Joe, a policeman returning to the estate where he grew up to investigate the murder of a black teenager.

    In a major new season, Disarming Britain, Channel 4 examines the effect of gun and knife crime on Britain's streets. For the final hearing, the Commission are in Glasgow. John Carnochan from Strathclyde's Violence Reduction Unit describes Glasgow's historic culture of knife crime, and how the issue is now a public health matter in Scotland.
