Where is he? it's like he's just disappeared from it altogether. He's not been in it for months, i know he is meant to be leaving it but they could have at least given him a story that was plausible for him to leave.

Well there are currently no plans for the character to return and if he does i think that he will be re cast he has been one for months now he had a small goodbye scene just after tilly was kidnapped and left with just the occasional mention of him.
