What happened to Melanie and Toby?

Now that Joe Mangel is back what happened to his wife Melanie, he left Erinsborough after they were married and also his son Toby.

What i don't get is why has Neighbours give lyn an husband called joe and then get rid of him and now they are giving her a bf called joe- Also sorry don't know the answer as i was only ickle when he was last on

well he a different person so it dosent really matter if he called joe as well
