    Exclamation Corrie Spoilers 23rd - 27th December 2024

Coronation Street has confirmed that Carla Connor and DS Lisa Swain's relationship will take centre stage this Christmas.

The two characters are in the early stages of exploring their feelings for each other, as seen last week when they slept together for the first time.

Although Lisa has since told Carla that she's not ready to pursue a new relationship, things are put into perspective this week when Carla is attacked during a robbery at Underworld.

When Carla and Lisa still seem to be avoiding moving forward with their romantic connection, Roy Cropper tries to intervene by encouraging Lisa to be more honest about her feelings.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a recent press event, Corrie's new producer Kate Brooks commented: "Carla and Lisa have been circling each other for a while. The attraction is there and the chemistry is palpable.

"They're both very strong, independent, stubborn, brilliant women, and they found themselves drawn to each other. They are the least likely person that they think this would happen with, but they have that connection that they can't deny, so we will absolutely play their relationship."

She continued: "For Carla, this is quite huge. She's had a lot of history with men, a lot of failed relationships, a very colourful past and then she's found herself falling in love with a woman and it completely blows her mind.

"Carla doesn't quite understand it at first, but she goes with it. I think it's important for us to show that that she's not struggling with her sexuality. She's very confident in her sexuality, but she has fallen in love with a person that she didn't expect to fall in love with. That presents many challenges and I think they're irrespective of gender.

"With Lisa, she has a lot of barriers up. She's still grieving for the loss of her wife and she's so committed to her job. If anyone's got issues with the relationship, initially it's Lisa, who struggles to let down those barriers and let Carla see that vulnerability.

"Carla's in a bit of a tailspin. She's like: 'I've fallen in love with this woman but she's hard work'. She makes Peter look easy! I think that's what the story is for those two."

Brooks pointed out that the presence of Lisa's troublesome daughter Betsy will also make matters complicated for the couple.

Betsy has already expressed her fears that Carla could try to "replace" her other mum Becky, despite Carla's best attempts to shut these concerns down.

Brooks said: "You throw in Betsy, who is fabulous and feisty and a pain in many ways but so wonderful. You throw that daughter into the mix and Carla's in a completely different world.

"It's really interesting watching Carla navigate this because we know Carla, we love Carla. This is completely alien and unknown and unchartered waters, but yet she navigates them really well and it's just going to be an absolute ride.

"We want to keep Carla and Lisa secure. We want to keep them grounded. We want to make that relationship really believable and it is. What I've seen on screen is fantastic between the two of them. I think it's really important to tell these stories properly.

"At the heart of it is a relationship. It's a love story and they will inevitably get a lot of curveballs thrown their way. 2025 is not a quiet year for those two and there are a lot of hurdles and obstacles that come their way. There are a lot of things that they didn't quite anticipate that get in the way of their relationship.

"But ultimately, they emerge from this strong and united. I'm really excited to be with this couple on this journey. I think the drama and the story they've given us already is immense and they're going to give us a lot more of that."

Over Christmas, Carla will take the step of going public with the relationship for the first time. She has already confided in her nephew Ryan Connor about her feelings for Lisa.

Brooks confirmed: "It becomes public knowledge during Christmas. They are happy during the Christmas period. Carla initially flinches a little bit at the idea of people gossiping. It's not about sexuality but she's a bit unsure.

"But once she realises everyone is absolutely fine about it, then it's all systems go. Christmas will be when they really commit to each other, when they declare how they feel for each other and when they stop circling each other and touching each other's hair!"

Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby will plan revenge on her sister Toyah Habeeb and ex-partner Nick Tilsley in a gripping Christmas storyline.

Leanne is left shocked in upcoming episodes as she discovers that Toyah and Nick have continued to pursue their relationship behind her back.

Toyah and Nick were already caught out for betraying Leanne with a short-lived affair earlier this year.

Although both are now free agents, they've decided to keep quiet about their ongoing romantic connection to spare Leanne any further heartbreak.

Corrie's new producer Kate Brooks has now confirmed that this storyline will come to a head on Christmas Day as Leanne seeks payback.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a recent press event, Brooks commented: "It's fantastic for the viewer. Leanne has got her suspicions about Nick and Toyah. I felt it was really important to see a different side to Leanne.

"Leanne has had a very tough year. She's had The Institute, which was all-consuming in many ways, but she's a Battersby and she's scrappy and she's feisty. Toyah is so good and so brilliant and wonderful, and Leanne sees the life that she had just being taken away from her.

"Rather than go down the route which is expected, of her taking it on the chin or moving on, Leanne really wants to make them pay and she is really intent on getting her own revenge.

"It can be at the detriment of her own sanity sometimes, but she wants to make them realise what they've done to her. Nick's betrayal is one thing, but the betrayal of a sister is huge, and I just love that dynamic between Toyah and Leanne ? I think it's fantastic."

Brooks added: "I remember really vividly the Battersby sisters coming onto the street in peak Spice Girls era. They barrelled onto the street, little Sporty Spice and Scary Spice.

"Just tapping into how they were as Battersbys was really important, and that all comes to the forefront on Christmas Day and it doesn't end well for anyone.

"They do spend Christmas together, so at least they're together! Just don't ever spend Christmas Day with your ex and your sister!"

Coronation Street has announced plans to revisit Daniel Osbourne's big love triangle storyline this Christmas.

Daniel is currently in a relationship with Bethany Platt, but his love life is about to get complicated once more as his unresolved feelings for his ex-fianc?e Daisy Midgeley rise to the surface again.

Corrie's new producer Kate Brooks shared the news with Digital Spy and other media at a recent press event for the ITV soap.

Brooks explained: "Obviously they've been circling each other for a while. That love triangle is brilliant. It's a love triangle that keeps on giving and we will certainly continue that through December and into the new year.

"Daniel is in love with two women ? that's what it boils down to. He loves Bethany but he also loves Daisy. Not many people can pull that off, but if anyone can, a Barlow can. He is absolutely torn over what to do for the best and it's ultimately his head over his heart.

"Daniel wants to be with Bethany. He wants to channel his love and his future with Bethany, but sometimes when you make a little mistake, things can come back and bite them on the bums, so that's essentially what we're doing with that triangle."

Further twists and turns in the love triangle could prove to be heartbreaking for Bethany, who's already wrestling with her own insecurities after her cosmetic surgery went wrong in September.

Bethany has been told that she'll have to use a stoma bag for the rest of her life, after facing complications when she underwent a liposuction procedure in Turkey.

Although Daniel has reassured his girlfriend that this changes nothing when it comes to their relationship, Bethany is currently facing a long road to regaining her confidence.

Brooks added: "For me, the rivalry between Daisy and Bethany is fantastic. It's so fun to watch. It feels nice and soapy, which I think is what we want to do with that story.

"Obviously, there's other issue-led stories around it, but for me that love triangle and that dynamic is going to be super interesting and exciting as we wonder what the heck Daniel is going to do and how does he ever get out of those holes that he finds himself in constantly?

"There's lots of relationship drama. What I love about it is that there's no good guys or bad guys in it. It's just these three people have found themselves in this situation and they just want to find their own happiness, but obviously sometimes when you find the happiness, it comes at a cost."

Corrie bosses have also confirmed that legendary character Gail Rodwell will take centre stage this Christmas as Helen Worth bows out from the role after 50 years.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/cor...oks-gail-exit/

Coronation Street's new producer Kate Brooks has shared further details of Gail Rodwell's exit storyline.

Legendary character Gail will bow out from the ITV soap on Christmas Day following Helen Worth's decision to leave the role.

In recognition of Gail's incredible 50-year run on the show, she'll take centre stage in the festive episodes alongside the rest of her family.

Viewers have recently seen Gail reunite with old flame Jesse Chadwick and they're now engaged to get married. The stage seems set for a happy ending, but will everything really run so smoothly?

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a recent press event, Brooks commented: "In a word, Christmas is very fun this year. It's a very lively Christmas on the Street and lots of bombshells are dropped.

"Obviously, this is set against Gail's wedding. Whether she goes through with that or not, I cannot say anything! But this is a story with the Platts at the heart of it.

"It's really festive. Basically it's a story about family and how secrets impact and implode on a family. There are a lot of betrayals. Lots of secrets are exposed during this episode and it will be like classic Corrie, with a bit of a twist.

"I think we're all in need of a bit of escapism at the minute and we've had quite a dark but brilliant few months on the cobbles. The Christmas period for us is all about trying to tap into the family dynamics of the Platts, what makes people tick, and ultimately trying to make sure that we give glorious Gail the exit that she deserves."

Brooks continued: "Gail has been such an icon on the Street for such a long time ? 50 years of television, which is amazing. We can't tell a story on Christmas Day about her exit without it being steeped in nostalgia.

"There's tons of nostalgia in this episode and hopefully people will be crying, they'll be laughing, there'll be gasps as people watching it go: 'Oh my goodness, that's just happened!'

"It's old-school Corrie but just with a modern twist and I think people will really, really enjoy it. I want people to sit down on Christmas night with a full tummy, watch this episode and go: 'You know what, that is exactly what I needed'. So that's what Corrie is this Christmas."

Brooks confirmed that the Christmas Day episode won't be released early on ITVX at 7am, so fans will have to watch on the night to see exactly how Gail leaves.

In a very busy time for the Platts, some of the secrets being kept in the family directly involve Gail, while others centre around other members of the clan.

Brooks added: "All of those secrets come to the forefront on Christmas Day. You basically have Gail, who's going to leave the Street, but in the run-up to Christmas she has found out that some of her nearest and dearest have absolutely betrayed her.

"She doesn't know who to believe. Even her dear old mum has kind of lied to her and she really struggles with that. She's thinking: 'I don't know whether I want this. I don't know whether I want to be with Jesse'.

"She contemplates and questions everything and every decision she's ever made. Obviously Gail has had a really colourful past, so that's a big part of that Christmas Day episode, but she is there and she is going to leave the Street and it's going to be so wonderful and sad.

"I'm devastated that Gail's leaving. It really devastates me because she's so iconic. It was really important to make sure that her exit felt really fitting and in keeping with who she is as a character. But she is there and you've got all these different bombs going off around her and she's oblivious to them all. It's wonderful ? it's a great Christmas."

They met when Gail went to Thailand a few years ago and had a holiday romance there. I think they had to quickly re-write her exit because Sean Wilson did not finish filming his return as Martin Platt...usual rubbish, for some reason they cannot provide viewers with a decent exit for most characters even when they have plenty of time

Coronation Street's Tracy McDonald has inspired a major revenge plan by giving Leanne Battersby some unexpected advice.

The unlikely allies were drawn together in Friday's episode after Leanne discovered the truth about her sister Toyah and ex-partner Nick's secret relationship.

Toyah and Nick were already caught out once earlier this year after betraying Leanne with a brief affair.

Since then, Nick has split from Leanne but has chosen to keep her in the dark about his decision to keep pursuing a potential future with Toyah.

In Friday's episode, the truth dawned on Leanne as she finally spotted the clues that Nick and Toyah were hiding something from her.

The final straw came when she investigated the mysterious Tenerife holiday that Nick had recently booked. She found out that he'd chosen a romantic couple's suite to enjoy alongside Toyah.

Probing further, Leanne also secretly watched the secret lovers from afar as they met up for a rendezvous at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Leanne held back from confronting the pair but later broke down in front of Tracy, telling her everything.

Tracy encouraged Leanne to return to her roots rather than being walked all over, telling her: "For good or bad, you are a Battersby. And if you want my advice, you better start acting like one."

Leanne ultimately decided to play the long game, telling Nick that she needed his support following the sad death of her father Les and the stress of preparing for Rowan Cunliffe's trial.

As Leanne asked to move back into the flat, Nick felt highly awkward over the situation but reluctantly agreed.

Leanne then checked back in with Tracy, who was baffled to see her moving back in with Nick. She asked Tracy to stay out of it, confirming that she fully intends to get her revenge in good time.

She warned: "Let me tell you something ? I'm nobody's fool. Nobody's."

Coronation Street's new producer Kate Brooks recently announced that Leanne's revenge will be one of the stories taking centre stage at Christmas this year.

Speaking at a Corrie press event, Brooks told Digital Spy and other media: "I remember really vividly the Battersby sisters coming onto the street in peak Spice Girls era.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.

Coronation Street star Jacob Roberts has confirmed that his character Kit Green will be among the characters taking centre stage at Christmas this year.

Fans can expect Kit to play a big role in one of the show's festive plots as his mischievous behaviour continues.

Jacob shared the news with Inside Soap magazine as part of its annual Christmas preview.

He explained: "Kit ends up being a bit of a naughty boy this Christmas, which I don't think the audience is going to like him for.

"Every script I read, I'm excited to film it, as there's always something in them that makes me think: 'Yeah, you're being a right so-and-so there'. I love playing those sorts of scenes.

"Kit's really in the mix over the next few weeks as he's involved in other people's stories, and also some of his own."

Coronation Street's new producer Kate Brooks recently announced that the Platt family will be the central focus this Christmas, as show legend Gail bows out after 50 years on the cobbles.

Viewers can also look forward to Leanne Battersby's revenge against Nick Tilsley and Toyah Habeeb, Shona Platt's downward spiral and Carla Connor and Lisa Swain going public as a couple.

Brooks told Digital Spy and other press: "In a word, Christmas is very fun this year. It's a very lively Christmas on the Street and lots of bombshells are dropped.

"Obviously, this is set against Gail's wedding. Whether she goes through with that or not, I cannot say anything! But this is a story with the Platts at the heart of it.

Coronation Street is returning to an hour-long slot on Christmas Day this year, Digital Spy can confirm.

The long-running soap's festive special will run for 60 minutes as legendary character Gail Rodwell bows out.

Last year, soap fans were shocked as Coronation Street and Emmerdale were both cut back to 30-minute slots on Christmas Day rather than the usual hour-long specials.

This was the shortest Corrie Christmas episode since 1997, which was the last time the show had a 30-minute slot on the day prior to 2023.

Newly-released schedules for Christmas Day have now revealed that Corrie will air for an hour between 7pm and 8pm this year, reverting to the familiar scheduling tradition.

The news isn't so good for Emmerdale fans, as the show will be sticking to 30 minutes again on Christmas Day this year. Emmerdale airs for half an hour between 6.30pm and 7pm, just before Corrie.

Last week, Coronation Street's new producer Kate Brooks confirmed that Gail will leave Weatherfield in the Christmas Day episode.

With the exact circumstances of her departure being kept under wraps until that night, the episode won't be released early on ITVX.

Speaking at a press event, Brooks told Digital Spy and other media: "In a word, Christmas is very fun this year. It's a very lively Christmas on the Street and lots of bombshells are dropped.

"Obviously, this is set against Gail's wedding. Whether she goes through with that or not, I cannot say anything! But this is a story with the Platts at the heart of it.
