Emmerdale's Eric Pollard will make a surprising confession next week, after making a secret escape from his engagement party.

The soap will air scenes this week which seem to show a strengthening of Eric's relationship with Brenda Walker, as he tells Brenda that he'd love them to get married at Christmas.

While Brenda is shocked by the sudden suggestion, she's delighted by Eric's show of commitment, especially when he later hands her an engagement ring which he claims to have bought at an auction.

But in scenes airing next week, it becomes clear that Pollard has been hiding something from his wife-to-be as he acts suspiciously at his and Brenda's engagement party.

The celebration seems to be going well, as Eric gives a heartfelt speech and announces to an excited Brenda that he has booked them a cruise for their honeymoon.

As the guests enjoy the party, Rodney Blackstock corners Pollard and starts asking him about where exactly his new-found wealth has come from.

Although Pollard is coy about the source of his income, he suddenly panics and abruptly leaves the party after Rodney's questioning.

What Pollard doesn't realise is that he's being followed by a suspicious Leyla Harding. As Eric heads home and Leyla trails him, she's left shocked when a shaken Pollard makes a big confession to her.

What exactly has Pollard been hiding, and will it ruin his future with Brenda?

It has been reported that Brenda star Lesley Dunlop will shortly be leaving the soap, suggesting that Brenda may not be getting the happy ending that she's hoping for.

Emmerdale's executive producer Iain MacLeod has already teased that there's a dramatic festive season on the horizon for the village's residents, revealing that it's due to be one of the most "exciting" Christmases ever for the soap.

"Christmas in soap is a difficult one as you want it to be dramatic and exciting but you also want it to have that humorous, warmth and festive soapy flavour and I think the balance is bang on here," he said.

Emmerdale airs a major turning point in Tom and Belle King's dark storyline next week.

Tom finally starts to face the consequences of his violent and abusive behaviour when he's hauled back down to the police station for questioning.

Early next week, Tom's downfall still appears to be far off as he continues to manipulate those around him.

Tom slyly tries to win over his aunt Nicola, who still doesn't trust him, and hopes that a show of unity with his new girlfriend Amelia Spencer will work.

Tom even suggests to Amelia that they should move away together, which disgusts Sam Dingle when he overhears.

Concerned about his granddaughter Esther being raised in an abusive environment, Sam goes to the police station to raise his concerns.

He's disappointed when the police confirm that they're still not in a position to do anything about Tom due to lack of evidence against him.

The following day, Tom commits another crime by breaking into Charity's home while Belle is upstairs in the bath.

After snooping around the place, obsessed Tom discreetly steals one of Belle's tops before leaving again.

The villain taunts Belle when he next sees her ? and she's visibly confused to then spot Amelia wearing her missing top.

Belle makes accusations over her discovery, leaving Amelia baffled. In the end, Belle becomes overwhelmed and flees from the situation.

Later, back home at Keepers Cottage, Amelia is shaken as a furious Tom cruelly berates her over the situation with Belle.

Tom forcefully marches Amelia out of the house but is spotted by his uncle Jimmy. DS Foy also arrives on the scene to take Tom in for questioning.

The scheming villain tries his best to outwit those around him, but before long, he's finally on the receiving end of justice. Has there been a breakthrough in the case at last?

Emmerdale's secret couple Liam Cavanagh and Chas Dingle slip up next week as they discuss their romance at the wrong moment.

The pair have decided to make a go of their relationship, but they're seeing each other in secret to spare Liam's ex-girlfriend Ella any further heartbreak.

Liam ended his romance with Ella last month after realising that Chas was the woman he wanted to be with.

Ella reacted so badly to the split that Liam felt unable to clarify that he was leaving her to be with Chas.

Next week, things look up for Liam when he learns that Ella is planning to leave the village.

The doctor pays a visit to Chas in The Woolpack back room, sharing the positive news that they won't have to worry about Ella's presence for much longer.

Chas is shocked as Liam declares his love for her, clearly keen to become a serious couple once Ella is gone.

Later, Liam realises that the situation has changed as Ella makes plans to move into Dale Head with Manpreet Sharma rather than leaving the village.

Liam and Chas meet up again to discuss the latest revelation. Chas confirms that she loves Liam too, but wants to put the brakes on their relationship for a while.

Ella gets suspicious when she catches the tail-end of their conversation. How much did she overhear ? and how long will it take before she works out the full truth over what's going on?

Nicola King (played by Nicola Wheeler) knows that her husband Jimmy's (Nick Miles) nephew, Tom King (James Chase), is a nasty piece-of-work

But so far, Nicola has failed to convince either Jimmy or Tom's new girlfriend, Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell), that he clearly abused his now estranged wife, Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper).

Nicola is furious when Jimmy once again takes Tom's side during an argument.

Meanwhile, Tom continues to put on a fake front, pretending to pray to impress unsuspecting Amelia.

Amelia is all of a flutter after Tom hints that he wants them to get ENGAGED one day!

This guy wastes no time, does he?

When Tom and Amelia arrive at the cafe to speak to Nicola, will she find out about his big plans for the future?

While Belle continues to try and get her life back on track after the ordeal that she went through with Tom, her half-brother Sam (James Hooton) is shocked after overhearing a conversation between Tom and Amelia...

Sam decides to take ACTION and visits the Police Station.

However, he is left angry and frustrated when it seems the Police currently have no plans to take any further against Tom.

Despite Belle previously reporting her horrible husband for domestic abuse.

Tuesday

Chas Dingle (played by Lucy Pargeter) and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) have been trying to keep their SECRET relationship on the down-low

Village doctor Liam's other lady love, Ella Forster (Paula Lane), still has no idea WHAT has been going on between them.

Despite rekindling things with surgery receptionist Ella, Liam can't seem to stay away from Chas.

And it looks like she feels exactly the same way!

Pub landlady Chas and Liam meet-up in the backroom at The Woolpack.

Chas is shocked when Liam declares that he is in LOVE with her!

Uh-oh...

Chas swore she wasn't going to be the "other woman" again, and wants to put the brakes on their relationship.

Even though Belle finally found the courage to walk-out on abusive Tom, it's clear that she will NEVER feel safe all the while he is still walking around the village a free man...

There's another SHOCK in store for Belle.

She reels when she sees Tom's new girlfriend, Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell), wearing the very same top that twisted Tom just STOLE from Belle's home.

Just what kind of mind game is Tom playing with Belle now?

Belle confronts beauty salon assistant Amelia at PampaManda.

Amelia is stunned by the accusation and flustered Belle leaves in a panic...

Will Amelia start to realise there is some truth to the ongoing allegations against Tom?

Meanwhile, Belle's family remain frustrated by the lack of progress the Police are making in taking action against Tom.

The countdown to Christmas is ON as Eric Pollard (played by Chris Chittell) and Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) look forward to getting hitched during the festive season

Brenda was shocked when Eric first revealed his plans for a Christmas wedding.

But she is thrilled with the engagement ring that he bought for her at a recent auction.

It's celebration time at Eric and Benda's engagement party.

Eric gives a speech and Brenda is excited when her fiance announces they will soon be heading off on a honeymoon cruise.

Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) is particularly curious how village shopkeeper Eric is suddenly so FLASH with the cash!

Has he suddenly come into a whole LOT of money?

Eric plays innocent but later has a panic and flees from his own engagement party!

What is going on?

Family friend, Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) is suspicious and follows Eric home.

Put on the spot, will Eric come clean and admit the truth?

Is Eric hiding a SECRET from Brenda that could jeopardise their wedding plans?

Let's hope that Brenda has better luck with Eric than she did with her previous husband, Bob Hope (played by Tony Audenshaw).

It looks like Steph Miligan (played by Georgia Jay) plans to stick around in the village

Steph has got a LOT of making-up to do with her previously estranged parents, Ruby (Beth Cordingly) and Caleb (William Ash).

Plus, she's already gone and got herself mixed up with village bad boy, Ross Barton (Michael Parr).

Steph is in for a SHOCK when her granddad, Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day), arrives on the doorstep with some devastating news...

It seems Anthony has been diagnosed with cancer...

Anthony's previous appearance did not go down well with his estranged daughter Ruby.

Ruby's parents rejected her 30 years earlier when she first got romantically involved with Caleb.

But Steph pledges her support to her granddad, hoping that the sad news that he is living on borrowed time might help mend the strained relationship between Anthony and Ruby.

After all, it's not been long since Ruby's terminally ill mum Helen passed away.

Could the Fox-Miligan family be taking a step closer to putting the VERY troubled past behind them?
