Coronation Street officially reveals Joel Deering's fate next week.
The villain is confirmed to be dead as his body is found in the river, two weeks after his mysterious disappearance.
The revelation comes as three young men spot Joel's body floating in the water.
News reaches Craig Tinker first, so he approaches DS Lisa Swain and Kit Green with the information at the police station.
With Kit now overseeing the Joel investigation, it's down to him to break the news to Dee-Dee Bailey and Lauren Bolton at the hospital. Lisa carries out the informal duty of letting the rest of the community know at the Rovers Return.
Later that day, Kit informs Lauren that a post-mortem has been carried out and the results show that Joel was dead before he entered the water.
This means that Joel's death is now a murder investigation ? and first on the agenda is finding out where Lauren was on September 27, the night of his demise.
Later in the week, further information is brought to light as Kit tells Lisa that Joel died from two blows to the head. A heavy weapon was used in the crime ? most likely a crowbar.
There's a new suspect when DS Swain finds out that Yasmeen Metcalfe threw Mason Radcliffe out of her home because she found out he had a crowbar.
Lisa warns her daughter Betsy to stay away from Mason, but Betsy has other ideas and tips off her friend that the police are already onto him.
Mason tries to dispose of the crowbar in a bin outside the factory, but he's caught covering his tracks by Kit.
Other suspects in the mystery include Max Turner, Ronnie Bailey and Ed Bailey, who all quickly raise concern with their shifty behaviour following the news about Joel. But who really killed him?
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, October 14 and Wednesday, October 16.

Coronation Street's Stu Carpenter threatens to leave Weatherfield next week after new tensions with his partner Yasmeen Metcalfe.
The couple look likely to go their separate ways after clashing over Stu's attitude towards Mason Radcliffe.
Stu is currently dedicating lots of his time to helping Mason rebuild his life following the teenager's two recent stints in Young Offenders.
This has included hiring Mason at Speed Daal, giving him a place to stay and helping him to secure a place on a college course.
Yasmeen has appeared less keen on helping Mason and the risk of bringing trouble to her door. This week's episodes see Eileen Grimshaw advise Yasmeen not to let Stu pressure her into decisions that she's uncomfortable with.
In the end, Yasmeen asks Mason to leave her house for good after discovering that he's secretly in possession of a crowbar.
Stu is left angry with Yasmeen, even after Mason reassures him that the social worker has found him somewhere else to live.
With the couple clearly not on the same page, Stu tells Yasmeen that he is thinking of moving to Germany to be with his granddaughter Eliza and the schoolgirl's father Dom.
How will Yasmeen respond to the surprising news?
Earlier this year, it was revealed that actor Bill Fellows had decided to leave the role of Stu to pursue other acting opportunities.
Bill soon confirmed the news himself on Instagram, giving fans a glimpse of a touching gift that his Corrie colleagues had presented him with on his last day.
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, October 14.
Absolute cop-out once again, instead of setting an example of what can and should happen to abusers they do the favourite lets kill him off and make a murder mystery out of it... we have had enough of that crap.. Richard Hillman, Tony Gordon, John Stape, Karl Munro, Pat Phelan, Gary Windass and Stephen Reid... all I can remember for now...but sure did not want to have this suspense again

So, I guess that whoever did kill Joel will also somehow avoid trial by committing suicide or escaping to a country with no extradition treaty or falling down a big well or being bitten by a rabid dog - anything to avoid them having to go to trial. Oh, and this will be after the police arrest the wrong person initially.
