EastEnders star Jaden Ladega teases "never been done" storyline

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/eas...one-storyline/

EastEnders actor Jaden Ladega has teased the soap's upcoming anniversary episode.

It was recently announced that the BBC soap will be celebrating its 40th birthday with not just a live episode, but one where a viewer vote will decide how parts of it play out. Full details haven't been revealed yet, but we know it will involve a love story.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy on the red carpet of tonight's (September 11) National Television Awards 2024, the Denzel Danes actor admitted to feeling a mix of emotions about the concept.

"It's exciting because I feel like it's never been done, even when I've been there. It's cool that the public can pick [the outcome]," he said.

"I'm pretty excited about it, the live episodes at EastEnders have always been absolutely amazing, but this is a bit nerve-wracking at the same time. But I'd love to be in it. It's a big, big, big [story], 40 years of EastEnders."

When asked if there was a chance that Denzel and Amy Mitchell could get back together, he said "No comment", but added that he "would certainly like [them] to".

When asked about the response to Denzel's steroid use storyline, Ladega stated that he had received "really positive reactions" from fans.

"I think it's really important highlighting that teenage boys feel in their body that they're not enough," he said.

EastEnders first went live in 2010 for the revelation of who killed Archie Mitchell and did so again in 2015 during the big 'who killed Lucy Beale' reveal.

EastEnders is set to air a dramatic new storyline that will shake things up on Albert Square.

As the soap approaches its 40th anniversary, The Sun reports a fire will devastate the lives of the Walford residents.

The Square has seen its fair share of infernos over the years, from explosions to arson; including the Queen Vic fire in 2010, which saw legendary landlady Peggy Mitchell fight to save her beloved pub.

It's currently unclear where the upcoming blaze will take place, or who will be affected by the incident. The whole community could be at risk of danger and maybe even death.

One character that has been tipped to exit the show is Nish Panesar (played by Navin Chowdhry). The villain was introduced to EastEnders in 2022 and has ruled over his businesses and family with an iron fist.

Nish was recently at the centre of The Six storyline, but survived the Christmas episode. However, he later returned to the Square, announcing that he was dying.

Though his exit hasn't been confirmed, Chowdhry revealed that he was "really excited" when he found out his character's fate.

Speaking about Nish's illness, the actor told Digital Spy: "He has spent most of his time since he's been back causing hell for everyone else, and suddenly he's been dealt the harshest card.

"So for him to cope with that and then react in the way that he needs to try and still be on top and still win is just a really interesting dynamic that I don't think anyone saw coming."

EastEnders will reportedly air a huge explosion and see the return of a classic character for its upcoming anniversary special.

The BBC One soap is currently preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary, with a special live episode set to mark the occasion in February 2025.

The Sun has now reported that the episode will see a huge explosion tear through The Vic, putting the lives of several Walford residents in danger.

While nothing has been officially confirmed by the soap, an insider told The Sun that the dramatic scenes have already been filmed and that some lives are left hanging in the balance.

The publication has also reported that Paul Bradley is set to reprise his role as classic character Nigel Bates for the episode. Nigel was first introduced to fans in 1992 and was last seen in 1998 when he left for Scotland.

Digital Spy reached out to EastEnders but the soap declined to comment.

Meanwhile, EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw previously hinted that the show's 40th anniversary could feature the return of classic characters.

"It all depends on the story and where the characters are," he said when asked if characters from the past would return. "But it has to come from character, it has to come from story."

He also confirmed the anniversary will be a time to lean into nostalgia, saying: "As we head towards our 40th year, I think the nostalgic element means a lot. Into the autumn and the end of the year, we?ve got quite a few treats coming up."

EastEnders has promised several "bonkers" episodes to mark the soap's 40th anniversary next year.

The milestone will be celebrated in February 2025 with a week of memorable episodes, including a live broadcast from BBC Elstree Centre.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other press, executive producer Chris Clenshaw revealed that most of the "explosive" storylines have already been shot, and warned viewers to be prepared for anything.

"I can't say too much. What I will say is it's explosive," he said.

"Apart from the live episode, we've pretty much shot most of it and it's looking brilliant. Expect everything."

"Expect everything and a bit more. Honestly, the anniversary week is just bonkers," added Adam Woodyatt, who has played Ian Beale since the show's inception in 1985.

"I think I can safely say for all of us, we picked up the scripts and thought, 'How the hell are we going to do this?' And we have. We obviously haven't done the live element yet, we've done all the bits leading up to it, and it's honestly brilliant."

In a new twist, the soap is introducing another layer of jeopardy to the live episode by handing over some of the power to the audience, who will decide the outcome of a love story.

Details of which characters will be involved in the storyline are currently being kept under wraps, but the couple's fate will be placed firmly in the viewers' hands.

The chosen outcome will then play out during the live episode, with the cast and crew prepared to adapt the scenes to reflect the result of the public vote.

"The 40th anniversary is a milestone event for EastEnders, and we have been planning this week for a long time to ensure that it's a week full of drama and surprises," Clenshaw previously said in a statement.

"While we're still keeping the finite details of the 40th close to our chest, I can promise that it will be an unmissable week full of shocking twists that will change Albert Square, and the lives of those who live in it, forever."

EastEnders is set to reveal the identity of Cindy Beale's attacker during the soap's 40th anniversary week.

Cindy was attacked on Christmas Day (December 25) by an unknown assailant after her various secrets were exposed, with the character being left for dead in Albert Square's gardens after being hit on the head with a shovel.

With several members of the community seemingly having a motive for the crime, a search for Cindy's attacker will soon get underway ? and it's now been confirmed that their identity will be revealed during the soap's 40th anniversary week in February.

"Our 40th anniversary storylines have been in the works for some time, but even at the very start of planning, we knew that we wanted to reveal the identity of Cindy's attacker as part of this," said EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw.

"Many characters currently find themselves in the line of question, but over the coming weeks, the audience themselves can look out for clues to who may be the culprit.

Cindy's attacker reveal is just one of many stories we have planned for the anniversary as it is set to be a week of explosive drama for the audience to remember."

The attack came after Cindy's affair with Junior Knight, the son of her ex-husband George, was exposed by daughter-in-law Lauren Branning. Lauren had herself had been blackmailed by Cindy, after discovering her involvement in Kojo Asare's fall which left him seriously ill in hospital.

The various admissions, which caused the breakdown of several relationships in addition to her own with Ian, led to Cindy arranging a taxi to leave Walford moments before she was attacked and left in a critical condition.

In addition to the reveal of Cindy's attacker, the 40th anniversary week will also include a special live episode, with several past stars also rumoured to be returning to the soap after some time away.
