Hollyoaks has revealed more information about ex-Coronation Street star Angela Lonsdale joining the show.

Lonsdale has been cast in the Channel 4 soap as Gill, the mother of murderous teenager Joseph Holmes. Viewers know that Joseph has framed love rival DeMarcus Westwood for killing DS Saul Reeves.

A new autumn trailer for Hollyoaks offers the first look at Gill being introduced as part of the storyline that sees DeMarcus's father, Felix, and Vicky's guardian, Scott, trying to prove Joseph's guilt.

The pair will break into the Holmes house to steal Joseph's secret phone, yet Gill mistakes them for a couple attending a showing of the property.

While Gill's first appearance will see her involved in a humorous misunderstanding, viewers should prepare to see Gill go to extreme lengths to protect Joseph.

?I can't wait for the viewers to see this important storyline unfold over the next few months," the actress said.

Her first appearance as Gill on Hollyoaks will be on Tuesday, August 30 on E4 and, airing again, on Channel 4 on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

Lonsdale is probably best known for her three-year stint in Coronation Street as Emma Taylor, and for more recently appearing in Our Girl and Holby City in recurring roles.

This current storyline examines both knife crime and abusive relationships, as viewers have seen Joseph exact this sick revenge on DeMarcus simply because of his friendship with Vicky.

DeMarcus remains behind bars pending trial, yet there may be hope yet for Joseph being caught out for killing Saul.

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
