Casualty school shooting episode under review just days before broadcast

Casualty has confirmed that a planned school shooting storyline is under review just days before it is due to be broadcast.

The soap had been due to show a double episode titled 'Wednesday's Child' on Saturday, June 11, airing as part of Ollie Hide's continuing storyline.

However, the BBC has since said in a statement to Digital Spy: "In light of recent tragic news events, we are reviewing the episode of Casualty due to transmit on 11th June on BBC One."

The storyline comes at a particularly sensitive time in world events after the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 21 people, including 19 children, were killed and 18 further people were injured.

Before being removed, the BBC's original synopsis for the episode on its website read: "David must come to terms with Ollie's involvement in a school shooting, and a patient from Paul's past pushes him to be honest with Robyn."

Viewers will know that Ollie's behaviour has caused increasing concern in recent weeks, with the teenager suffering bullying at school ? though his social isolation stems further back.

Last weekend's episode saw Ollie desperately try to speak to his dad David about something, before meeting with his friend Rob, who tells him: "I'm the only one that's got your back. Me and you, that's all that matters. It's just us two now."

George Rainsford, who plays Ethan Hardy previously teased a dark turn in the storyline to Digital Spy, saying: "There's some really heavy, dramatic stuff coming up for David, and Ethan is part of a large ensemble of support for him. That is the big story that is coming in."

Kirsty Mitchell, who plays Faith Cadogan, added to What To Watch: "I don't want to give too much away but there are shocking storylines coming up, where everybody's lives cross, both professionally and personally
