Coronation Street has shared a first look at the Rovers Return getting its grand re-opening later this month.

The iconic pub will be back in business in the New Year's Eve episode after a last-ditch plan from Jenny Connor and Daisy Midgeley.

In scenes airing just after Christmas, Jenny informs Daisy that their joint bid to buy The Rovers has been accepted.

Jenny and Daisy get straight to work on organising an opening date. After a quick chat with Waterfords, the company which briefly owned the pub, it's agreed that The Rovers can re-open in time for New Year's Eve.

On December 31, Jenny and Daisy are helped by returning employees Sean Tully, Glenda Shuttleworth and Gemma Winter-Brown, who head to the pub armed with boxes of booze.

Jenny and Daisy can also rely on support from the community, as the locals muck in and help to prepare the pub for the relaunch party.

Gary Windass does the honours of putting Betty Williams' picture back on the wall in pride of place.

Jenny, Glenda, Sean and Gemma kick the relaunch off with a bang by donning bad taste outfits for the occasion.

Most see the funny side, but one resident isn't impressed with the costumes.

Later, as the countdown to midnight begins, everyone heads out of the pub and joins Glenda in singing 'Auld Lang Syne'.

Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod first confirmed the fate of The Rovers in late October, warning that an illegal act would save the pub.

This could tie in with the new storyline which sees Jenny and Daisy trying to track down the money that was stolen from Underworld by Stephen Reid.

MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media: "[The Rovers] reopens on New Year's Eve, but the interesting thing is that the circumstances of it becoming open again are all tied up with Stephen's legacy.

"Somebody will do something that is at best, naughty, at worst, slightly criminal to get their hands on the keys to the pub and reopen it. So it will reopen, but the reopening of it will be based on this slightly shaky foundation of a criminal act."

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Sunday, December 31 at 8pm on ITV1.

    Corrie Spoilers 31 Dec 2023 to 3rd January 2024

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/cor...eturn-details/

Coronation Street has shared more details of Harvey Gaskell's return to the show.

The dangerous villain reappears in the first week of the New Year, as Will Mellor reprises the role.

Harvey was last seen in late 2022 but is making a comeback as part of Damon Hay's return storyline.

Damon arrives back in Weatherfield in January and plots revenge on Adam Barlow for running him out of town.

When Adam is kidnapped by a mystery assailant, all eyes are on Damon as the most likely culprit. However, when local policeman Craig Tinker wants to speak to Damon, Adam's estranged wife Sarah steps forward to give the bad boy an alibi.

Damon appears to have narrowly escaped trouble for now, but another potential threat emerges when he heads to the local jail.

In the prison visiting room, Damon faces half-brother Harvey for the first time in months.

Damon appears to have been summoned to the jail as fearsome Harvey wants something ? but what?

Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod recently shared the longer-term plans for Harvey's return storyline, teasing that Adam will also be paying him a visit before long.

MacLeod told Digital Spy and other press: "As Damon's calming down, Adam's going in the other direction and he plans to rid himself of Damon.

"We'll see him pay a little visit to Damon's half-brother Harvey because he's no fan of Damon's either. They might form an unholy alliance. They have a shared problem in the form of Damon and think they can help each other in that regard."

Coronation Street airs Harvey's return scene on Tuesday, January 2 at 8pm on ITV1.

Jenny, Daisy, Sean, Glenda and Gemma head to The Rovers armed with boxes of booze.

Jenny and Daisy look proudly on as the locals muck in and prepare the pub for the grand reopening. Gary hangs Betty's picture back on the wall in pride of place.

Jenny, Glenda, Sean and Gemma compare their bad taste outfits in readiness for the evening ahead, but one resident is less than impressed with the costume.

Meanwhile, as Daniel heads home, his face lights up when he spots Bethany. Jenny urges Daisy to go and find Daniel and patch things up with a New Year's kiss. What will she find?

At the countdown to midnight, everyone heads out of the pub and joins Glenda in singing 'Auld Lang Syne'.

Elsewhere, Adam drops Harry off with Sarah. Noting that she's dressed to the nines, Adam assumes she's got a date and quickly pretends that he's got one too. Finally, Stu tells Yasmeen and Alya that he doesn't want Eliza blaming herself for her dad's disappearance so it's best if he tells her the truth. Yasmeen tells Stu that it's probably best if he doesn't confess all to Eliza as he's the only family she has now and she'd be terribly hurt.

Carla finds Bobby helping himself to her wine and asserts that it's time he got a job. Carla shows Bobby around the factory and offers him a trial week on the sales team. Bobby assures her she won't regret it.

Meanwhile, Daisy tells Jenny about her humiliation at finding Daniel already seems to be turning his attention to his old flame Bethany. When Jenny reveals that Waterford's have given them permission to move back into the pub full-time while the sale goes through, Daisy perks up.

Bethany calls at Sarah's flat. Sarah is thrilled to see her daughter. At No.8. a delighted Gail suggests they celebrate with a family lunch at Speed Daal. Tuesday 02 January 2024 at 20:00 on ITV1

Seeing a carefree Damon stroll into the Bistro, Adam gets on the phone to tip off the police.

Nick and Leanne arrive to find Damon waiting for them to ask for the money he gave Harvey to invest in the Bistro.

Craig arrives to question Damon about Adam's kidnap. When Adam barges into the factory to inform Sarah about Damon and his kidnap, Sarah has no time to reply as Craig enters. Sarah tells Adam that she was with Damon yesterday afternoon and is his alibi.

Damon offers Ed a job renovating a bar. Realising who he is, Bethany calls him a homewrecker, but Damon's distracted by a phone call and hurries out.

In a prison visiting room, Damon faces his brother Harvey. What does Harvey want from his brother?

Meanwhile, Paul is thrilled as Summer reveals her big surprise is her uni lecturer has offered to take Paul for a spin in his motorbike's sidecar later. Summer's tutor, Dewey, turns up with a motorbike but no sidecar.

As Summer and Billy strain to lift Paul onto the pillion instead, dangling helplessly, a humiliated Paul orders them to put him down. In a bid to lift Paul's spirits after the motorbike debacle, Billy suggests a holiday.

Elsewhere, when Kevin confirms to Abi that the scratched Porsche is booked in at the bodyshop next week, Cassie forms a plan. When the Porsche's owner arrives to collect his car, Cassie makes out she rang him by mistake. He's unimpressed to spot the damage to the paintwork and threatens to sue. Kevin and Abi are horrified as Cassie promises it will be good as new by tomorrow. Cassie's pleased when a stressed Kevin blames Abi for the scratched car fiasco.

Also today, Daisy's miffed when Jenny firmly vetoes her special offer ideas to boost custom at the pub. When Bethany calls into the Rovers and sneeringly remarks on how empty it is, Daisy defiantly writes out a sign offering a free drink with every hotpot purchased.

Finally, Tyrone informs Evelyn and Roy that Terry has been charged and has a hearing tomorrow. They hope that he pleads guilty.

Paul's voice talker apparatus is delivered and he nervously uses the app to play some of his pre-recorded phrases. When Billy reveals the cost of travel insurance is extortionate due to Paul's condition, Paul insists they forget about the holiday.

In The Rovers, Gemma and David learn of Paul's aborted holiday and decide to cheer him up with some jugs of sangria. After a fun afternoon, David helps a drunk Paul back to the flat but Paul sends him home as Moses is due any minute.

With no sign of Moses and bursting for a wee, Paul drags himself to his wheelchair but crashes to the floor.

Meanwhile, Roy declares to Cassie he cannot let Abi take the blame for damaging the car. Cassie reluctantly agrees to come clean but as she prepares to confess to Kevin, the words die in her mouth when he offers her a permanent position at the garage.

The Porsche's owner collects his car from the garage but refuses to pay his bill. Kevin takes out his anger on Abi, blaming her again for the scratch. Will Cassie come clean?

Elsewhere, revealing he's getting his money out of the bistro, Damon tells Ed he can pay him to do the bar renovation before the builder's yard is sold. Dee-Dee's alarmed to discover that Ed's struck a deal with Damon, and urges her dad to stay well away.

Also today, over a birthday drink in the Bistro, Daniel tells Ken that he and Bethany are getting on well.

Finally, Tyrone senses Evelyn's fears as she refuses to accompany him to Terry's hearing, claiming she has more important things to do. Evelyn hears from Tyrone that Terry pleaded guilty and will be sentenced later.
