    Spider

Spider Nugent is set to make his return to the cobbles!

Martin Hancock will resume the role he played as Emily?s eco warrior nephew between 1997 and 2003 next month, appearing on our screens in July.

As the on/off boyfriend of Toyah Battersby, Spider left Coronation Street in 2003, when he headed to London to start afresh with Toyah. They later separated with Spider moving to Peru, while after a failed marriage Toyah returned to be with her family in 2016.

Coronation Street confirms Spider return details as Toyah receives a shock
Coronation Street has confirmed the details of Spider Nugent's return to Weatherfield.
Show bosses recently announced that Martin Hancock had reprised the role of Spider, who was last seen in 2003.
In next week's episodes, Spider's reappearance coincides with his ex-girlfriend Toyah Battersby's ongoing troubles.
Still under suspicion over her role in Imran Habeeb's death, Toyah tries to distract herself by organising a protest against waste incineration.
Toyah's sister Leanne insists on joining her for the protest, alongside Mary Taylor, Brian Packham, Nina Lucas and Asha Alahan.
The group manage to successfully block in the council bin wagon on Victoria Street, leaving it at a standstill.
Leanne is concerned when Toyah takes things a step further by leaping into the cab of the bin wagon.
Suddenly, a man makes his way through the protest group and plonks himself down in the cab next to Toyah.
Toyah is surprised when she spots that this mystery arrival is Spider.
The pair catch up and reminisce, before Toyah invites Spider to stay over.
Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod recently teased: "Martin is a fabulous actor and Spider is a character with real heritage, and affection from fans. His return heralds an enthralling new story for Toyah, who will be embroiled in a mess of guilt and secrecy when Spider arrives.
"Will he be her saviour or the thing that ruins her life forever?"
Martin Hancock added: "Having the opportunity to walk back onto the cobbles is fabulous, I'm so excited to be seeing a lot of old friends and picking up what Spider has been up to.
"I've always wanted to come back at some point and it just felt like this is the right time. I'm eternally grateful to Iain for the opportunity."

What exactly is Spider trying to establish as under-cover cop? Looks like the racist storyline is going to go on for quite a while yet ...

Coronation Street star Martin Hancock has promised bigger stories for his character Spider Nugent after his recent on-screen absence.

Last month, Spider and his girlfriend Toyah Habeeb began appearing on the ITV soap again after a break from our screens.

Spider had played a key role in the show's far-right extremism storyline at the start of the year, helping to bring Griff Reynolds and his criminal associates to justice in his role as an undercover police officer.

Many of the characters involved in this story then disappeared for a couple of months, giving other plots a chance to take centre stage.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards, Martin teased: "There's a few things coming up [for Spider] now. The far-right story has kind of gone ? or maybe it hasn't!

"There's some stuff from Spider's past, which is going to come through. There's some quite big storylines coming up."

Asked about Max Turner's release from the Secure Training Centre after his involvement with Griff's gang, Martin continued: "I think Spider has an open mind. He wants the best for Max. He wants Max to turn a corner, but whether Max does, well that's up to him."

Martin also praised the change in his character since he returned last year.

He laughed: "It's really interesting. If you'd said to me a few years ago that Spider would come back as an undercover police officer, I'd have been surprised!

"But it's really interesting and they've done it really well. It makes sense as well, why he's done it. Because what do you do when you become an older protestor? There's two ways you can go. You can either become part of that system and try to change the system, or carry on outside it. He chose to step inside to change it."
