Digital Spy article. Gemma Bird Matheson to play new character Kiri Hua Durant:

Neighbours has announced that Gemma Bird Matheson is joining the show as its newest cast member.

Matheson will make her first appearance as Kiri Hua Durant on Wednesday, March 9 in the UK, with the character described as "a bit mysterious and flirty", "very morally-driven", and "a good girl at heart".

"She definitely finds herself in the middle of a lot of drama," Matheson added.

"I felt honoured to be a part of such an iconic Australian show, but I was also excited by what this representation would mean for a lot of people, especially on such a mainstream show," she said of her reaction to landing the role.

"I'm a big advocate for queer people playing queer roles. I'm excited about this representation for several reasons ? I get to play myself, a queer Papua New Guinean Christian. That's pretty monumental."

Matheson added that her time on set so far has "already been such a fantastic learning experience".

"The rate at which Neighbours films is unlike anything I've ever worked on," she explained. "It sets you up with skills you just don't learn anywhere else."

No further details have been revealed on Kiri and which characters she'll be interacting with on her Ramsay Street arrival.

Matheson becomes the second new regular cast member of 2022, after Phoebe Roberts joined the soap as Freya Wozniak.

Freya has begun dating Levi Canning, but her true intentions remain unclear as she seeks to use Levi's position as a police constable to her advantage.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).

Neighbours reveals secret identity of show newcomer Kiri Hua Durant
Kiri has a connection to a Ramsay Street resident.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...cret-identity/

    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours is set to reveal the secret identity of newcomer Kiri Hua Durant, who has ties to a Ramsay Street resident.

Kiri, played by Gemma Bird Matheson, makes her first appearance in the UK this week as she hosts several characters including Glen Donnelly (Richard Huggett) and Nicolette Stone (Charlotte Chimes) at River Bend.

Glen's awkward behaviour is noticed during the getaway, and there's a suggestion that he and Kiri may have crossed paths before.

In scenes airing next week, Glen can't stop thinking about Kiri following the River Bend getaway. He soon confides in Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou), telling her that Kiri is his long-lost daughter.

Glen believes keeping this a secret is best, as he fears the truth could end up hurting. But he also badly wants to connect with his daughter.

With Matheson confirmed as a regular cast member, it appears that Kiri and Glen's relationship will play a major part of the soap in the months ahead. What will bring Kiri to Ramsay Street, and when will she find out the truth?

Another storyline set up as part of this week's River Bend episodes involves Kiri and Nicolette. The pair spend much of their time getting to know and growing close to each other, and they eventually take things to the bedroom.

It potentially looks like the start of a new relationship, and it may be interesting to see how Nicolette's ex Chloe Brennan reacts.

At the time Matheson's casting was announced, the star described Kiri as "a bit mysterious and flirty" as well as "a good girl at heart".

Neighbours airs these scenes on Friday, March 18 at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Wednesday, April 6 at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).

Neighbours newcomer Gemma Bird Matheson hints at second love interest for Kiri
There's more than one possible romance on the horizon.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...love-interest/

    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours star Gemma Bird Matheson has suggested that her character Kiri Hua Durant is looking for love in more than one place.

The long-lost daughter of Glen Donnelly, Kiri arrived on the scene earlier this month (in UK episodes) as a potential love interest for Nicolette Stone, but in a new interview with Inside Soap, Matheson indicated that there's plenty more fish in the sea when it comes to her romantic future.

"There's more romance, of course," she said of her character's future. "I think Neighbours fans are going to have some opinions on Kiri's love interests and where they end up."

This will be caused by Kiri's manipulative dad revealing Nicolette's chequered past in a bid to drive her away from Erinsborough and hide his true relationship to her.

It sounds like she's there to stay, though.

While we're on the subject of the future, it was sadly confirmed earlier this month that Neighbours is to end later this year after close to four decades on screen due to the loss of funding from its British broadcast partner, Channel 5.

The news has led to the announcements of several former cast members returning to help say farewell to the beloved soap, including Peter O'Brien reprising the role of Shane Ramsay and the legendary Ian Smith returning as the iconic Harold Bishop. Fans are also hoping that Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan will make an appearance on the show that launched their careers.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play.

Neighbours confirms identity of Kiri Durant's second love interest
Chloe and Kiri share a spark when they meet.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...love-interest/

    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours will hint at a potential romance between Kiri Durant and Chloe Brennan in UK episodes airing next week.

Kiri (Gemma Bird Matheson) had a romance with Nicolette Stone (Charlotte Chimes) during the River Bend episodes, but doesn't want to pursue things further after a scheming Glen Donnelly reveals some of Nicolette's past misdeeds.

Glen (Richard Huggett) hopes he's done enough to drive Kiri away from Erinsborough in order to keep the secret that he's her long-lost father, but is thrown to see her again in upcoming scenes.

Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano) hires Kiri as the vineyard's new events manager, and while Glen worries his secret will come out, Chloe (April Rose Pengilly) gets along with Kiri really well as she gives her a tour of the vineyard.

Chloe is looking for another housemate at Number 24, and seriously considers offering the spare room to Kiri.

Chloe invites Kiri to hang out with Mackenzie Hargreaves (Georgie Stone) and Freya Wozniak (Phoebe Roberts). Mackenzie points out to Chloe a potential spark between her and Kiri, but Chloe says she's only focused on filling the room.

With Mackenzie and Freya giving the thumbs up, Chloe offers Kiri the room.

It's not long before Nicolette, who is still heartbroken, finds out that Kiri is becoming her neighbour, and things start to get a little awkward.

Kiri considers doing a U-turn and rejecting Chloe's offer, but Chloe convinces her to take the room after an honest conversation about Nicolette.

At the same time, Jane Harris (Annie Jones) suggests to Nicolette that this is an opportunity to win Kiri over. However, with the possibility of a romance between Chloe and Kiri ? something which star Gemma Bird Matheson teased recently ? the situation might get more messy in the coming weeks.

And that's not the only potential drama. Chloe, Kiri, and Nicolette are all oblivious to the fact that Glen is certainly not fine with Kiri moving into Number 24.

Neighbours makes opening titles change as Ramsay Street gets a new resident
Say hello to the latest addition.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...s-kiri-durant/

Neighbours has once more updated its opening titles after the arrival of a new resident to Ramsay Street.

Friday's (April 1) episode on Channel 5 confirmed Kiri Durant (Gemma Bird Matheson) has thoroughly settled into Erinsborough after featuring in the sequence.

The old shot of Glen (Richard Huggett) and Leo (Tim Kano) walking together through the vineyard has been swapped out to include Kiri who has just started working there.

The opening sequence last underwent changes after the sudden departure of Shelia Canning (Colette Mann) alongside the arrival of Amy's daughter Zara Selwyn (Freya Van Dyke) and newcomer Freya Wozniak (Phoebe Roberts).

In the latest episode, Kiri agreed to move in as Chloe's (April Rose Pengilly) new housemate after some convincing. This comes after Kiri ended her recent fling with Chloe's ex-fianc?e Nicolette (Charlotte Chimes) after finding out about her past.

Leaving behind heartbreak, sparks are flying between herself and Chloe but now she is officially neighbours with Nicolette, viewers might expect this love triangle to ramp up in the weeks to come.

Gemma Bird Matheson recently teased: "I think Neighbours fans are going to have some opinions on Kiri's love interests and where they end up."

Meanwhile Glen's plans to drive Kiri away from Erinsborough, after finding out he is her long-lost father, are proving unsuccessful as she takes up her new role as Events Manager at the vineyard.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play.

Neighbours confirms a new twist for Kiri Durant's love triangle
Will Kiri choose Chloe or Nicolette?

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/nei...riangle-twist/

    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Nothing has been straightforward for Neighbours' Kiri since she arrived in Erinsborough, and her love life remains complex ? a situation that shows no signs of changing in the near future.

Kiri is currently involved with Chloe, but they're struggling to find the spark that they thought they had. But it looks like that spark could be reignited between Kiri and Nicolette instead.

With David now in prison, Chloe is in need of a distraction, so she and Kiri attempt to have a romantic evening ? only they are once again thwarted when the mood does not feel right, and they put things on hold.

What Chloe doesn't know is that this pushes Kiri closer to Nicolette, and the pair grow closer still when Nic agrees to join Kiri at church.

Needing peace of her own, Nic hopes that trying something like attending church will help her get it, and Kiri's delighted when she says that she'll join her.

But while Nicolette has been trying to move on from Kiri, she still harbours feelings for her, and spending more time together is only set to make that worse.

However, with things not going as swimmingly with Chloe as Kiri would like, is she on the verge of admitting that she has stronger feelings for Nicolette than she's letting on?

And it is not just her love life that is causing Kiri problems. She also has issues with Glen, the father she never knew about, to deal with.

Kiri learns all about Glen's troubles with addiction when he is forced to skip her birthday party due to a relapse. An angry Kiri calls him out on it, and the two are able to come to an understanding and make a fresh start as a result.

Time will tell whether Kiri's situation with Chloe and Nicolette resolves itself in the same way...

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play.
