    Exclamation Mary (Louise Jameson)

    https://www.itv.com/emmerdale/articl...AxygFDGCxk7He8

Acclaimed actress Louise Jameson has joined the cast of Emmerdale.

Louise will play Rhona Goskirk?s mum, Mary, who will burst onto the scene just in time to interrupt a very important moment in Rhona?s life.

No nonsense Mary has a strained relationship with her daughter who has always felt she was never good enough for her mother. Though Mary will prove a hit with everyone she meets in the village, will she be able to repair her broken relationship with Rhona? Can they put the past behind them and begin to cherish the fact they are mother and daughter?

With Mary?s acerbic wit and stubbornness, Rhona knows there won?t be a dull moment whilst her domineering mother is around and it?s only a matter of time before she starts ruffling feathers in the village. But how long before unsettled Rhona finds out the real reason behind her mother?s arrival?

Louise has a variety of television and theatre credits. Most notably playing the roles of Leela in Doctor Who and Rosa Di Marco in EastEnders.

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw says: ?We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Louise to Emmerdale. It's great to have such a high calibre and talented actor join our already strong team and she will be a fabulous asset to the show. Intelligent, witty and complex, Mary promises to be a force to be reckoned with in the village and for Rhona, there won't ever be a dull moment whilst her domineering mother is around.?

Louise Jameson says of joining Emmerdale: ?It feels like such a gift to be welcomed into the Emmerdale cast. Playing Zoe?s on-screen mum is the icing on the cake.?

I like her romance but the scenes are becoming tedious and repetitive

Emmerdale lines up a shocking twist in Mary's romance story

Emmerdale bosses have announced that a shocking twist is on the way for Mary Goskirk's romance storyline.

Mary's love interest Faye, who was introduced earlier this year, is not all she seems and future episodes will expose her true agenda.

Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson shared the news with Digital Spy and other media at a press event this week, warning of heartbreak for Mary.

Hudson explained: "We've got a lovely love story playing on screen with Mary. We see Mary falling in love with Faye and it's her first relationship since coming out.

"She's been really vulnerable and she's really put herself out there and unfortunately it's not going to be a happy ending. Mary is going to have her heart broken.

Viewers will see the storyline begin to take its new twist next week, as Faye tells Mary that there has been a fire at the women's refuge. Mary is concerned and proposes a fundraiser to help.

"I think what's really relevant for this story is how easy it is to be scammed, how easy it is to be taken in, how easy it is for love to stop you thinking logically.

"I think it doesn't matter what age you are, we're all vulnerable to be tricked and to be scammed and to be catfished."

Emmerdale schemer Faye Helders is returning to the soap as Mary Goskirk's emotional story is revisited.

Faye makes a comeback shortly after Mary receives an unexpected update on attempts to bring the con artist to justice.

In early May, Faye was revealed as a scammer who was only dating Mary with the intention of stealing her money.

When Mary realised the truth and confronted Faye, there was a scuffle over an envelope of cash. Faye ultimately made her escape, leaving Mary bleeding and concussed.

Next week, PC Swirling pays a visit to The Woolpack and informs Mary that Faye has been found.

Swirling confirms that Faye has been arrested and charged, but he adds that she's denying all of the allegations against her.

Looking further ahead, TV Times has confirmed that Faye will make a return appearance on the show in the coming weeks, with Jane Gurnett reprising the role.

Faye risks a backlash by reappearing in the village, but viewers will have to wait and see whether she manages to cause more problems for Mary or whether the village favourite will turn the tables.

Last month, Louise Jameson ? who plays Mary ? spoke about the possibility of her character finding love again after the heartbreak of being conned by Faye.

Louise exclusively told Digital Spy: "[Mary is] very reluctant to get out there again, but her community is pushing her, I can tell you that!

"Her community is starting to push her and build her confidence again. She took a beating and all of her confidence was ripped away.

"It's been a joy to play, because Mary has been very high and very low. That scamming storyline is an important one because it does happen, especially with the older generation.

"There's some awful scammers out there and it's quite nice to be part of raising the awareness."

Louise Jameson recently opened up about Mary's upcoming storylines, teasing that another "big" romance plot could be on the horizon.

"The storyliners have hinted that something big is coming Mary's way in the love life department," she hinted.

Jameson also reflected on the disheartening conclusion of Mary's relationship with Faye, adding: "How sad is that but how clever are the writers to come up with the storyline? It's an important one ? elderly people being scammed."

Emmerdale star Louise Jameson has spoken to Digital Spy about plans for a big new storyline involving Mary Goskirk's family.

Mary hasn't featured on the show for the past couple of months, enjoying some time out from the village drama while other storylines like the Tom and Belle King domestic abuse plot take centre stage.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards this week, Louise confirmed that Mary's life won't stay quiet for long.

She told us: "They've given me a brilliant summer. I've just come back from Greece. I feel so blessed to have a holiday with a wage still coming in ? I'm very grateful to Emmerdale.

"A very quiet summer [for Mary], but apparently our November is going to be rammed. I know there's going to be a family story. It'll be very intense. It'll probably go over the whole year. But I can't tell you any more than that, I'm afraid!"

Louise also addressed Mary's secret feelings for Suzy Merton, which were explored on screen earlier this year.

Mary developed a crush on her friend in the early months of 2024, but she shied away from telling Suzy once love rival Vanessa Woodfield was back in town.

Asked whether there's still a chance for Mary and Suzy, Louise replied: "I don't know ? Vanessa's got in there, hasn't she? And who can compete with Michelle [Hardwick, who plays Vanessa]?

"Probably not, but I don't know for sure. They've kept the secrets very close to their chests. The stories have changed slightly. They've been very intense. There have been only 17 people in each episode, which I think has ramped up the drama a lot.

"James [Chase, who plays Tom] and Eden [Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle] have done an amazing, important story. The rest of us had to step down while that took its journey, then other people will come up and they'll have a bit of a break."

On whether she wants Mary to find love eventually, Louise laughed: "No! Because if she finds love, all the drama stops. I'd like her to have another disaster!"

The Inside Soap Awards took place in London on Monday night. Emmerdale took home three prizes, with Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle Dingle) being named Best Actress, the Dingles topping the vote for Best Family, and Piper the dog triumphing as Best Pet.

Emmerdale actor Louise Jameson has addressed Mary Goskirk's recent on-screen absence ahead of an "intense" new storyline.

Mary hasn't been seen on screen for a while, with Jameson telling Inside Soap magazine that "I think Mary's been kept busy being a supportive grandma to baby Ivy recently off camera ? that's what the viewers will probably assume as we haven't seen much of Ivy either!

"I've had a really easy summer, so I'm itching to get started back now. I think my winter will be full-on!"

We'll get to see Mary become a bartender at the Woolpack, meaning she'll be involved in the fringes of many storylines and might have to step in to stop a fight or five.

"Mary will be good with the customers, I think. Not so sure she's so good at pouring the pints," Jameson said. "I think we'll see her a bit more no-nonsense."

But that's not all, as Mary, Rhona, Marlon and the kids will be involved in a major storyline going forward.

"The family will have an intense story that will last about a year where we have to pull together," the actor added, teasing that the storyline might see Mary's edgier side return too.

What Jameson really wants, however, is "another disastrous affair" with a "lesbian wedding and then have a punch-up at the reception".

"I could see Mary wearing a sequinned suit ? something chic with a touch of vulgarity."
