Exclamation Casualty announces return of three characters for 35th anniversary celebrations

Casualty will be bringing back not one but three familiar faces as part of its upcoming 35th anniversary celebrations. What a treat.

The BBC drama has confirmed that it'll be welcoming back Tony Marshall, Charles Dale, and Richard Winsor ? AKA Noel, Big Mac, and Cal ? for a special episode set to air later this summer.

Casualty will mark its 35th year by going back in time for a one-off episode, where the team in the Emergency Department is faced with a chain of events that changes the course of their future.

While Charles Dale's return as Big Mac is possible, with the character leaving the ED back in 2016 after stealing medicine, Cal and Noel will be brought back from the dead for the occasion.

Casualty fans last saw Cal Knight in 2017, after he was killed by Scott Ellison, while receptionist Noel Garcia tragically died earlier this year in the series' coronavirus episode.

Opening up about his return as Noel, Tony Marshall admitted that it was "strange but rewarding" to be back on set, revealing that the special episode will tackle "yet another important subject".

"It was a joy working with my son as well as, of course, Charlie Dale and Richard Winsor," he added. "We had to abide [by] COVID restrictions, which is not easy but we did it. The audience are going to love the episode!?

Charles Dale was equally thrilled about reprising Big Mac. "It's lovely to be back with my friends again, especially THE Tony Marshall," he said. "Reunion tour?"

Casualty's producer Loretta Preece promised a "35th anniversary smorgasbord" for fans as part of the announcement, which also confirmed the arrival of new character Stevie, played by Elinor Lawless.

Loretta Preece explained: "There is a 35th anniversary smorgasbord to offer both new and old fans of Casualty with huge stunts, faces from the past, some indelible new characters and some wonderful story twists.

"Elinor Lawless as new consultant Stevie makes a splash right from her first episode and I am confident she will become one of the most talked about characters in Casualty's history.

"There are huge, heart-breaking stories for Ethan and Jacob later in the series and I'm delighted to also announce a wonderful two part special to be written by Barbara Machin, one of television's most prestigious writers for Christmas 2021."

Casualty will be welcoming two new faces in its extended 35th anniversary episode, and it sounds like the pair of new characters will have very distinct personalities.

In the special episode, which will air on Saturday (August 14), fans will meet enthusiastic new paramedic Teddy, played by Milo Clarke. Teddy is full of excitement about his new role and he already has a close connection with the ED, as current paramedic Jan Jenning (Di Botcher) is his aunt.

With Jan still mourning the recent loss of two members of her team, she will struggle to reciprocate Teddy's enthusiasm for his training. However, this doesn't put Teddy off as he gets to know the team, and he seems to have a kind word for everyone ? except for Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson)!

Actor Milo has said that he is "so excited and honoured to become part of the Casualty family", revealing that he can't wait for fans to meet his character.

"Playing Teddy and representing the NHS as a paramedic, who is truly committed to going the extra mile, is something I am incredibly proud of," he said. "I hope his charm and zest are qualities viewers can enjoy."

Teddy won't be the only new face around the hospital, as we'll also be introduced to Stevie, played by Elinor Lawless.

We had our first look at Stevie in action in the trailer for the anniversary episode and we already know that we'll be meeting her in both the 2016 flashback scenes and in the present day.

Stevie will arrive at the hospital in 2016 when her sister Emma is admitted in a serious condition following a car crash, before she turns up again in the present day as a new member of staff.

It is revealed that Stevie is an old friend of Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) and they begin to rekindle their friendship, before cracks start to show when Faith admits that she doesn't think of Stevie as a friend anymore thanks to her years-long absence from her life.

Casualty boss Loretta Preece has teased that there is more to Stevie than meets the eye, revealing that she has a "nefarious agenda".

l"There are two new characters introduced in this episode," she said. "Stevie, played by Elinor Lawless, bursts onto our screens bloody minded, full of irreverence and with a nefarious agenda. We'll later learn how she's also a lapsed friend of Faith's who blasts back into Faith's crisis point with no boundaries and little in the way of self-awareness."

It seems that Stevie might have her sights set on both Faith and Ethan Hardy (George Rainsford), both of whom are struggling with grief following last week's shock tragedy.

Could there be trouble brewing on the wards?

Casualty airs its 35th anniversary episode on Saturday, August 14, at 8.45pm on BBC One.
