It's a sad day for Hollyoaks fans, as the show is going off air until the autumn. Fortunately, the soap's bosses are softening the blow by releasing an exciting new trailer, which previews what's to come when Hollyoaks returns.

Monday's E4 first look episode (July 20) marked the moment that 'Oaks ran out of new editions to broadcast, due to the UK lockdown disrupting filming.

Fortunately, with several episodes half-finished, new footage is already on hand to whet our appetites for Hollyoaks' big comeback in the autumn.

Here are the biggest storyline teasers revealed in a new promo.

1. Scott and Mitchell's dramatic wedding day

As Scott and Mitchell head down the aisle for their wedding day, the big question is whether they'll finally get their happily-ever-after. Queen of cursed weddings Mercedes is on hand to officiate at the ceremony (oh dear), while Joel urges Walter to see past his beliefs for one day by attending the happy event.

While viewers will have to wait and see whether Walter offers his blessing, another person to keep an eye on is Toby. Annoyed that his brother always seems to get what he wants, Toby taunts Mitchell and sparks an argument.

The footage shows Celeste gasping in horror after a dramatic event at the ceremony. Could Toby have taken his anger too far?

2. Felix's complicated love life

The triplets' father Felix could also be involved in some drama of his own at the wedding. The trailer shows that he'll be setting his sights on Grace Black again while at the ceremony.

Felix is also juggling his two other dates ? Lisa and Martine. Could his three-timing backfire on him?

3. Buster returns

Hollyoaks' trailer also confirms that Nathan Sussex is reprising his role as evil Buster Smith, who abused Brody, Ollie and Imran.

Brody has been reminded of his ordeal recently after hearing about what Felix went through as a child. In conversations with his girlfriend Sienna, troubled Brody has realised that he still hasn't had the closure he needs.

In upcoming episodes, Brody bravely visits Buster in prison, but how will it go?

4. Edward's drugging plan continues

Poor Tony has swapped one ruthless villain for another this year. His kidnap ordeal with Breda has closely been followed by the scheming of his twisted father Edward. Can Hollyoaks' original character ever catch a break? In the show's 25th anniversary year, probably not.

As the tense story continues in the autumn, Edward carries on drugging Tony with testosterone medication. Edward has seen how the medication adversely affects Tony's personality and wants to keep this erratic behaviour going.

Evil Edward reckons it's only a matter of time before Tony's wife Diane realises he's a much more suitable partner. Will Diane fall into this trap?

5. Leela's secret fling is uncovered

Jordan's sleazy behaviour comes back to haunt him when he sneaks in a secret kiss with Leela while out in public.

This moment is witnessed by Juliet, who knows that Jordan has also been sleeping with Leela's daughter Peri. Will Juliet reveal what she has seen?

Meanwhile, the trailer also teases the new romance between Peri and Juliet, which was first seen in Hollyoaks' flashforward episode last December.

6. John Paul's love triangle
h
John Paul faces a big decision over who he wants to be with, as PC Kiss gets competition for his affections. John Paul shares a charged moment with his ex-boyfriend James, who promises to give him anything he asks for.

PC Kiss refuses to be messed around, warning John Paul to choose between him and James.

7. Juliet is drawn deeper into drug dealing

Juliet heads further down a dark path as she and Sid meet Jordan's boss Victor.

Rather than feel intimidated, Juliet is even more motivated to climb higher up the ladder in the County Lines drug dealing operation. But how will Sid feel about his ex's antics?

Hollyoaks returns with new episodes, four nights a week, in September. The show will revert to its five-nights schedule in 2021.
