The first episode wasn't too bad,but it's nowhere near as good as Downton.

I've seen Benedict Cumberbatch in lots of dramas before Sherlock, and he was very good in all of them. He's not just a one-trick pony. My favourite dramas of his were Hawking (about Steven Hawking, and for which he was nominated for a BAFTA), and To The Ends of the Earth (a period drama about a ship's journey to Australia).

First episode was a bit slow, but now I'm fully absorbed by the storyline. Went into it because of Benedict being in it, but the whole sufragette thing was entizing me as well. Benedict is not as appealing, but that shows just how good he is!
