    Exclamation Wendy Crozier

KEN Barlow could be in hot water after his ex-lover, Wendy Crozier, makes a return to the cobbles.

He encounters Wendy (Roberta Kerr) when they are both up for the same role as a new governor at Bessie Street School.

After an initial shock, the pair hit it off again but he keeps her presence a secret from wife Deirdre.

Wendy previously had an affair with Ken in 1989 which led to his first divorce, although he later regretted leaving his family behind.

But viewers will be left wondering whether her reappearance in Ken’s life will once again cause cracks in Ken and Deirdre’s relationship.

Producer Phil Collinson, said: “Ken’s affair with Wendy was one of Coronation Street’s defining stories during the Eighties.

“Viewers were on the edge of their seats as they watched the disintegration of the Barlows’ marriage and now, more than 20 years later, I hope they will be again.

“I’m delighted to welcome Roberta back as Wendy and can assure viewers that her reunion with Ken will be one of many must-see storylines this summer”

Ken Barlow's ex-lover Wendy Crozier will return to Coronation Street this summer, it has been announced.

Roberta Kerr will reprise her role as Wendy on the ITV soap, which she appeared in between June 1989 and May 1990.

Wendy, then a council worker, won Ken's heart by laying on a surprise meal for his birthday. Their affair led to Ken's divorce from Deirdre.

Ken and Wendy are stunned when they bump into each other at Weatherfield's primary school, where it turns out they are both running for the role of new governor, revealed ITV.

Though adamant that they should remain good friends, Ken keeps Wendy's return to the area a secret from Deirdre.

Producer Phil Collinson said in a statement: "Ken's affair with Wendy was one of Coronation Street's defining stories during the '80s.

"Viewers were on the edge of their seats as they watched the disintegration of the Barlows' marriage and over 20 years later I hope they will be again.

"I'm delighted to welcome Roberta back as Wendy and can assure viewers that her reunion with Ken will be one of many must-see storylines this summer."

Roberta Kerr is also known for her time on fellow ITV serial Emmerdale, in which she portrayed Jan Glover for four years from 1994 until 1998.

Ken Barlow must battle it out with ex Wendy Crozier to lead the school governors.

When the previous chairman suddenly dies, head Brian Packham decides Ken would make the perfect replacement.

He agrees and Brian tells him an emergency meeting to elect the new chair is that night.

Ken is introduced to the other governors and feels he would relish his new role.

At the meeting Brian reveals that, in the absence of any other candidates, Ken is willing to stand as chair. He is about to accept when Mrs Papadopolous, another governor, breezes in late, offering to throw her hat into the ring.

But Ken’s thoughts couldn’t be further from school matters because he knew Mrs Papadopolous when she was plain Wendy Crozier.

A Corrie insider said: “Ken’s affair with Wendy was one of the sauciest ever on the show.

“It split Ken and Deirdre up so it’s no wonder he decides not to tell his wife about their chance meeting.

“But viewers will see that Ken is well and truly rocked by Wendy’s reappearance.

“The chemistry is still there – whether it leads to anything more remains to be seen. It’s going to be a very interesting time for Ken as he will once again be tempted by Wendy.”

Viewers of the ITV1 soap can see the scenes involving Ken and Wendy a week *tomorrow.

Coronation Street returnee Roberta Kerr has insisted that her character Wendy Crozier will not actively pursue ex-lover Ken Barlow.

Wendy returns to screens next week as Ken decides to put himself forward as the local primary school's new chair of governors, only to discover that his former flame is vice chair.

The ex-couple have been tipped to reignite their passion as the storyline plays out, but Kerr told Soaplife that Wendy will not be doing the chasing.

Discussing the moment that the pair come face-to-face again, she explained: "[Wendy's] initial reaction is shock - she's been married for the past 15 years and is now widowed.

"But she's busy in her life, she's not looking and she's certainly not predatory. It's a complete bolt from the blue."

When Ken lands the position of chair of governors, he and Wendy agree to keep things strictly professional. However, Ken fails to tell Deirdre that he is back in contact with his ex.

Asked whether Ken and Wendy's romance could be rekindled, Kerr replied: "Yes, it could, but at the moment it just feels like they're testing each other out. Wendy's reappearance has certainly opened up a hornet's nest, though!"

Ken previously had an affair with Wendy more than 20 years ago, which led to his divorce from Deirdre.

    Surprise return for Wendy Crozier

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/cor...-return-plans/

Coronation Street will welcome Wendy Crozier back to the cobbles as the character is set to return after more than a decade away from our screens.

Played by Roberta Kerr, Wendy debuted on the soap in 1989 and Kerr will reprise the role as she makes a surprise appearance in an upcoming storyline (via The Sun).

Details of Wendy's return storyline haven't been confirmed just yet, but she's set to make her comeback in a dramatic story later this summer, and we're sure it won't be long before she once again crosses paths with her former flame Ken Barlow (William Roache)...

When she was first introduced to the soap, Wendy was a council source for Ken, who worked as a journalist at the time.

Wendy was later fired when she was exposed by Ken's wife Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride), but Ken then offered her a job at his newspaper and the two began an affair, ultimately leading to his first divorce from Deirdre.

The relationship between Ken and Wendy didn't last very long, though. When Ken later lost his job at the newspaper and Wendy replaced him as editor, Ken fell into a depression that led to the realisation that he should have never left Deirdre.

Ken later left Wendy, and he and Deidre would eventually reconcile and remarry in 2005.

Wendy was last seen on-screen back in 2012 after the death of her husband Christos Papadopoulos, when she once again tried to rekindle the romance between her and Ken.

As he was back together with Deirdre, however, Ken wanted nothing to do with Wendy, prompting Wendy to get Ken drunk and let him crash on her sofa only to later tell Deirdre they had slept together.

This breach of trust led to Ken cutting Wendy out of his life completely, but have Ken's feelings changed nearly 10 years later now that he's a widower? And how will Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) feel about seeing Wendy on the cobbles once again?

Coronation Street has confirmed the details of Wendy Crozier's return to the cobbles.
Roberta Kerr recently returned to filming at the ITV soap, reprising her role as Ken Barlow's old flame for the first time since 2012.
Official spoilers have now confirmed that Wendy will be playing a part in Abi Webster's ongoing storyline.
In next week's episodes, Abi is told that she'll have to re-apply for custody of her baby son Alfie if she wants him back.
Abi is left with little time to prepare, as the hearing will be taking place the following day.
It also soon dawns on Abi that this won't be as simple as Alfie coming straight home with her. A social worker explains that the best she can hope for is custody of Alfie, but under the supervision of a foster carer.
The next day, Abi heads to court for the hearing.
Feeling nervous, Abi speaks harshly about the judicial system in a chat with a woman nearby.
The hearing starts shortly afterwards and when the judge takes her seat, Abi is mortified to spot that she's the same woman she met in the waiting room.
Abi believes that she has already blown any chance she had ? and her pessimism grows as the local authority solicitor lists her many failings as a mother.
In the end, the judge orders that Alfie should be placed with Abi in a mother and baby foster facility.
This will allow Abi to be assessed before any further decisions are made.
Abi is introduced to Wendy, who'll be their foster carer.
When Abi mentions that she's from Coronation Street, Wendy keeps quiet about her links to the cobbles.
In Wendy's original Weatherfield stint in 1989 and 1990, she had an affair with Ken. This led to the break-up of Ken's marriage to Deirdre.
When Wendy returned in 2012, she made an ill-fated attempt to rekindle her connection with Ken.
