Emmerdale's series producer Stuart Blackburn has revealed details of the soap's 40th anniversary plans, promising that there are "spectacular" storylines on the way.
Emmerdale celebrates its 40th birthday this October, and it has now been confirmed that the milestone episodes will feature two births and a wedding.
Speaking on This Morning today (April 4), Blackburn said that it is "incredibly exciting and a real privilege" to be overseeing the anniversary plots.
Blackburn commented: "Obviously this year it's all about the story. We've got to somehow get these stories as exciting and powerful and gripping as they've ever been. We've got some spectacular stuff coming up.
"In October, the week of our 40th is a real celebration of everything that's great about Emmerdale. What I can tell you is that there's going to be one of the most unexpected and unusual weddings we've probably ever had.
"We're going to have two births, which is unusual. I think everybody knows Debbie's pregnant and that the saviour sibling is due to be born in October. And there's another woman wandering the streets at the moment, who doesn't know she's pregnant.
"There's going to be a proposal - and then weeks and months of betrayal, lies, deceit and blackmail are going to come to a rather ferocious head. It's very exciting stuff."
Emmerdale turns 40 on October 16.
