    Cool

    Monday

Nick is annoyed to see a sign outside the unit next to the Bistro announcing a 'new bar'. When he then sees Owen struggling to get Tommy's clapped-out camper van moved from outside so that he can have a skip delivered, Nick quizzes him about who he's working for. Revealing the company is TD Enterprises, Owen returns to the task of getting the van moved.

With Tommy nowhere to be found, a tow truck arrives and starts to lift the VW. Arriving back, Tommy's aghast and berates the boss. He's quick to rise to the bait and a fight ensues. As Tommy brawls in the street, Tyrone rushes over to pull the men apart. Only then does he realise just who Tommy's scrapping with - it's Terry Duckworth, Tommy's dad!

Meanwhile, Rita is looking forward to visiting Betty this afternoon as Gordon is here. But when a grim-faced Gordon comes into the pub, everyone is shattered as he reveals that Betty passed away during the night. Everyone is deeply saddened as the Rovers regulars realise this marks the end of an era.

Elsewhere, Audrey receives a caution at the police station, David and Kylie begin their revamp of the salon but their customers prefer Audrey's motor home business, Carla realises that Ken is letting Leanne see Simon behind Peter's back, but Leanne begs her to see this is in Simon's interests, while Karl and Sunita vow to put the past behind them.

Tommy and Terry are reeling, but as Tommy holds out his hand to apologise, Terry refuses to take it and drives off. In the pub, Tommy is struggling to get his head round what's happened, and it becomes clear that Geoff and Doreen never really told Tommy what Terry is like. As the regulars insist that Terry is bad news, Tommy gets angry, forcing Tyrone to tell him the awful truth - that his dad sold him as a baby to the Hortons.

Seeing Tommy's distress, Tina seeks Terry out and demands answers. However, Terry confirms her worst fears - admitting that he never wanted a son and he still doesn't now. What will Tina tell Tommy?

Meanwhile, as the residents offer their condolences to Gordon, they're dismayed to hear that he intends to have her buried in London. But as an impromptu memorial starts in the pub, Gordon realises what an institution his mum was and resolves to rearrange the funeral in Weatherfield.

Elsewhere, Peter is kept in the dark by Leanne and Carla, David's timing is bad as he has the police threaten Audrey with harassment just after she's learnt of Betty's death, while Karl feels emasculated by Stella, who won't let him behind the bar despite how busy they are with Betty's 'memorial'.

    Thursday

Having heard all the stories about Terry, Owen wants part payment for his work on the bar upfront. Under pressure, Terry is forced to agree, but it's clear that money is tight.

At the same time, Tommy is planning a round-the-world trip with Tina to get away from his dad, but when Terry hears about Tommy's inheritance, he has an idea. Arriving at the flat, he puts on a show of contrition. How will Tommy react to Terry's sudden U-turn?

Meanwhile, as Stella, Emily and Rita help Gordon sort through Betty's belongings, they find a letter from Annie Walker, bequeathing The Rovers to Betty in 1984, before her son Billy took over insisting Annie wanted him to run the pub. Stella panics - does this mean her purchase of the pub was invalid? She begs Rita and Emily not to tell Gordon.

Elsewhere, Stella lays into Karl for ignoring her orders not to go near the till, but he feels patronised and confides in Sunita, while Carla struggles to manage Sally's expectations at the factory, but knows that she needs to keep her on side if she's going to invest.

    Friday

When Terry witnesses the tension between Tommy, Tina, Tyrone and Kirsty, he realises that he can use it to his advantage. After hearing Kirsty having a go at Tina over Tommy's badly-parked camper van, he damages the two vehicles to make it look like there's been a bump.

As Tina blames Kirsty for pulling another stunt and the boys back their girlfriends, tempers flare again between the four. Is Terry's plan working perfectly?

Meanwhile, it's the day of Betty's funeral, and Rita and Emily have decided that it's their moral obligation to inform Gordon of Annie Walker's letter. Stella understands, but fears what this may mean. Gordon himself is stunned, but as Betty's funeral cortege departs, silence descends on the street.

Elsewhere, Stella apologises to Sunita for having a go at her about letting Karl behind the bar, while Sally barges in on Carla's meeting with a potential new client, determined to play partner despite not having bought Frank's shares yet.

Tyrone is feeling guilty after his row with Tommy, but Kirsty lays all the blame at Tina's door. At the same time, Terry is the picture of the concerned dad, checking that Tommy is okay and insisting that he was doing the right thing by Tina. When Tommy asks if he meant what he said about wanting a relationship, Terry confirms that he does - while dripping poison into Tommy's ear about Tyrone.

Wearing Tommy down, Terry offers him a solution to his problem with Tyrone - why doesn't he come and work for him instead? Will Tommy put his trust in his dad?

Meanwhile, as the mourners arrive at the pub for Betty's wake, Gordon is touched to see how loved his mum was. Asking for a word with Stella, he reveals that he's come to a decision about Betty's claim on the pub. Later, as the wake is winding down, Gordon hands Sean a sealed envelope addressed to him from Betty. Sean's stunned as he reads its contents - it's Betty's hotpot recipe!

Elsewhere, Sunita and Karl start a new chapter, Audrey enlists a solicitor's help in getting her salon back, claiming that David bullied her into putting it in his name and is now conning her out of her business, Carla fears she's created a monster in Sally, while Peter worries when he gets a date for the custody hearing

Why haven't they been building up to Betty's death? they could have created a story-line that she was poorly and Gordon was up in Weatherfield to look after her weeks ago and progressed on from there instead of just announcing her death. When Blanche (Maggie) died. They created a story that she was in Tenerife. How could they not do something for Betty?

Agree, the oldest member of the cast ,should have built up to it, I would have loved to see Hilda Ogden return for the funeral and perhaps give one final performance of her own version of "Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye" But alas not to be.

And worse still, they are going to come up with a storyline about Annie Walker bequeathing her the Rovers' Return when she wasn't even the owner at the time of her death.

I know parkerman. It's disgraceful the half-hearted send off they are given Betty. She wasn't some tuppence worth actress who decided to leave because she wanted to crack Hollywood. This women gave 40+ years of her life to the street and many more to showbiz. She deserved on hell of a send off, she passed away 6 months ago and it has been almost a year if not more since she was last on our screens they have had plenty of time to write a fitting tribute to her. Look at the soap exit Jack & Vera got and God love them Bill and liz are still with us. As well as them there has been many soap characters who have died in the soap but the actor is still alive and they have been given a big soap send off. They should have had Steve, Ken, Emily and others going to visit her or talking to her on the phone so there was a build up to what a much loved woman Betty was. Not chucked out with the trash like one of Carla's empty wine bottles.

Or perhaps, given that it is just 6 months after the actresses real death, the producers discussed this story line with Betty Driver's real family and agreed that they didnt want a big sickness story line being built up over someone they are still grieving for in real life, and that a low key story with a straight forward sudden death and realistically simple funeral was what her family preferred, especially bearing in mind that she spent the last 5 months of her real life in hospital?

There is also an extremely fine line for the producers to tread between being respectful of someone's real death, and appearing to use it to generate ratings and advertising revenue.
