    Monday

Jai makes plans for Nikhil to take over the business if he goes to prison. Soon afterwards, the police arrive to speak to Charity, having received information that she lied in her statement. Jai is in disbelief when Charity says that she suspects Nikhil has dropped her in it.

When DI Fletcher arrives to speak to Cain about the fresh allegations against Charity, Cain backs Charity up - not wanting to make things worse for Sarah and Debbie. At the same time, Jai is furious when Nikhil admits that he did ring the police to report Charity. Jai feels totally betrayed and signs the factory over to Charity instead, should he go to prison.

Meanwhile, Ashley is struggling to cope with the gossip in the village and there is an awkward atmosphere when Paddy and Rhona walk into The Woolpack. Laurel's heart sinks to realise that they both know about Marlon. It's too much for Ashley when he overhears Rhona talking to Laurel and he leaves hastily. Later, Ashley seeks advice from Jude, explaining that he needs a change and is looking for a new parish.

Elsewhere, Nicola sweet-talks Jimmy into getting her dad a job as a driver for the haulage firm, but Carl is aghast at the idea and refuses.

    Tuesday

Ashley is subdued as Laurel takes the kids to school, with the situation between them still unresolved. Soon afterwards, Ashley ushers Sandy out when Jude arrives to talk about the parish move. Jude is surprised to hear that Ashley has not mentioned it to Laurel. Later, Ashley is shocked when Laurel suggests that maybe their marriage is not worth saving.

Ashley feels uneasy, but he deceives Laurel when he tells her about wanting to go away to Leeds for a few days. Sandy is suspicious when he hears of the plan to take her away to Leeds and questions him further in the church. Ashley's temper rises and Sandy is shaken when Ashley loses all control and violently hurls a hymn book at him.

Meanwhile, Charity is relieved but bemused to discover that she is off the hook with the police, and she's keen to find out what has been said to change their minds. At the same time, Rishi worries about his sons falling out, as Nikhil is refusing to run the business with Charity. Later, Charity tells Jai that she is no longer a suspect. Jai then feels increasingly vulnsderable and paranoid over why Cain has defended her.

Elsewhere, Nicola is fuming when Jimmy tells her that they can't employ Rodney; Chas's concerns for Aaron increase as she fears he could end up like Cain; while Carl receives a driving offence in the post and a plan forms in his mind to get Rodney to take his speeding points.

    Wednesday

Cain is exasperated when Aaron refuses to take the hint about leaving him alone. When Charity and Jai arrive at The Woolpack, Cain stops Aaron when he makes a lunge for Jai. Soon afterwards, Aaron has to be restrained again when he makes another attempt to attack Jai.

Eventually, there is a stand-off in the pub, with Declan taking Jai's side against Cain. Chas visits Cain to apologise, but both are furious when Aaron arrives. Cain is frustrated that Aaron won't stay away and warns him to go.

Meanwhile, after the row in the pub and a couple of bottles of whisky as a peace offering, Jai and Declan reconcile. Jai heads home after seeing Declan and when he spots Cain, he menacingly threatens him. Jai kicks out one of Cain's crutches and stands on his damaged leg, warning Cain that if he does end up going to prison, it will be for murder.

Elsewhere, Jimmy is suspicious to learn that Carl has given Rodney a job; Jai is torn when Nikhil wants him to choose between him and Charity; while Ashley apologises to Sandy.

    Thursday

Cain comes face-to-face with his attacker.

Meanwhile, Hazel is taken aback by Aaron's fury as she and Chas try and talk to him. Chas is concerned to see that his urge for revenge against Jai is as strong as ever.

Elsewhere, Debbie embarrasses Belle when she finds her with Sean. Lisa frets when she finds out that Belle was with Sean, but eventually asks Belle if she can be trusted with him.

    Friday

Aaron is unimpressed when Zak advises him to stay away from Jai, while Chas is annoyed when Diane agrees to Charity and Jai having their reception at The Woolpack. At the same time, Cameron is sick of all the domestics as he tells Debbie how Chas and Charity were at each other's throats again.

Later, Charity is fed up as she and Jai watch the glaziers clear up the mess caused by Aaron, but they're united when he tells her all that matters is them being together and getting married.

Meanwhile, Ashley feels positive about his and Laurel's trip, but is irritated by Sandy's attitude as they're about to head off. Ashley's pleased Laurel is enjoying herself as they sit in a busy restaurant, both trying to make things right.

Elsewhere, Amy worries that Pollard and Val's rowing is her fault, while Chas is impressed at how John handles Aaron.

Of course it`s her bleeding fault. The selfish mare only cares about number one - Amy.

Lets see.... she sh@gs Cain, gets pregnant, makes an appointment for a termination - twice, backs out of it but still takes Cains money, then gets drunk in the hopes of having a miscarriage, gives birth and leaves the baby in a phone box in the freezing cold.
Mother Of The Year she isn`t. But after all that I still thought that she would have kept Kyle - as proof she`s better than her Mother if nothing else. She broke Vals heart on more than one occasion, yet still sticks the knife in again by giving her baby away - knowing that Val, Eric, Zak, Lisa and others had fallen in love with baby Kyle.
I don`t feel sorry for Amy one bit. After all she`s put Val and Eric through by stealing from them, lying to them, and conning them - she still finds ways to break their hearts. She`s a train wreck, and I wouldn`t blame Val if she threw the selfish mare out of the house.

In what was undoubtedly one of the best love stories of the year, who’d have thought it would be Ashley who almost didn’t turn up to renew his wedding vows just before Christmas?

While he and wife Laurel went through with the ceremony without any interruption from chef Marlon, it clearly hasn’t made their marriage any stronger.

Perhaps the Reverend Thomas would have been better off in investing in an electronic ankle tag for his wife rather than a wedding ring and then he’d have been able to keep tabs on her.

But unable to stand his parishioners gossiping about his private life, he behaves in a not particularly vicarly way. First, he secretly talks to Jude about moving to another parish, and then when his old duffer of a dad Sandy has the temerity to ask what he’s up to on Tuesday, a furious Ashley
lobs a hymn book at him.

Come Friday, however, it’s a much more optimistic Ashley who takes Laurel on their trip, with her unaware of his ulterior motive.

But stopping for a meal in a restaurant is taking a bit of a risk. With Laurel’s track record with chefs, isn’t there a danger that she’ll want more than the dish of the day again?

Say what you like about vile Cain Dingle being beaten and left for dead almost a month ago, but at least it gave him the opportunity to get a decent haircut.

Now, after naming Jai as his attacker and seeing him charged with attempted murder, Cain comes face to face with the person who almost killed him on Thursday – and viewers finally discover the culprit’s identity.

In a village where peace on Earth and good will to all men are alien concepts, the locals should consider themselves lucky to have survived Christmas.

Come the New Year, Toffee Boy Jai still finds himself in a sticky situation. Brother Nikhil has dropped his fiancée Charity in it with the police for lying and Jai’s still being hounded by another psychopath in the Dingle clan, Aaron, convinced he attacked Cain.

But there are moments of sweet revenge. Charity names a date for their wedding, and Jai sees Cain hobbling down the street on his crutches and kicks one away.

“If I do go down,” Jai warns him, “it’ll be for murder.” Hard…
