I've got a kindle and I love it. You can buy a clip on torch for it too read in the dark if you want.

Abigail try your local college. They may offer a HNC/D on day release or distance learning. Private providers charge horrendous rates.

Be wary about some of the distance learning courses as they can be very expensive. The OU is probably the best as they have Offices in Major cities that you can call in to fo advice. As well as that...
