Sandra Flaherty

Paddy Kirk's marriage might be in serious jeopardy in Emmerdale, but actor Dominic Brunt is spending more time with his real-life wife than ever before - because she's just joined the cast.

Joanne Mitchell​ has been brought in to play Aaron Livesy's stepmum Sandra ​Flahery,​ and her first scenes will air next week.

Aaron will track Sandra down, knowing that she could be a key witness against his rapist father Gordon, but it soon becomes clear she knew more about the abuse than he thought.

Mitchell has previously filmed guest parts for the soap, but she may actually cross paths with Brunt this time due to Paddy's close connection to Aaron.

The couple have been married since 2003 and already work together in their free time on acclaimed horror films.

Sandra's dramatic scenes will air on Thursday, February 25 on ITV. The character has previously featured on the soap before, played by Janet Bamford between 2006 and 2008.

History

Sandra made her first screen appearance on 3 February 2006. She was initially played by Janet Bamford.

Sandra played the part of Gordon Livesy's (Gerard Fletcher; Gary Mavers) second wife. She accompanied Gordon when he brought his son Aaron (Danny Webb; Danny Miller) to Emmerdale to visit Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter). Sandra was pregnant and Aaron was unable to return home after being in contact with someone who had German measles. Sandra appeared after Aaron was arrested. Chas went to see Gordon and was told that Aaron had hit Sandra, leaving her with a black eye. Gordon refused to take Aaron back after he was arrested. When Gordon came back into Chas and Aaron's lives years later, he revealed his marriage to Sandra had broken down and he no longer had contact with his daughter Liv (Isobel Steele).

Sandra (Joanne Mitchell) returns on 25 February 2016 when Aaron tracks her and Liv down to inform them that Gordon abused him when he was a child. Sandra reveals to Aaron that she knew about what Gordon did to him and kept quiet about it, causing an angry Aaron to pin her against the wall, but his violent altercation with Sandra is witnessed by his sister, Liv, the same girl who took Aaron's wallet for a bus fare home.
