Has anybody else watched this on Tuesday night? I thought it is quite good and look forward to see it develop further.
i was out on tuesday so didnt get to see it but my mum said it was quite good so im going to try and watch it on iplayer
Thought it was a bit slow to start. Wondering what the connection is between the new Curate and the new choir member.
The new choir member is going to go off with Sarah Lancashire's husband, I predict. It is the way they keep looking at each other.
I liked it, it was nice.
Its good that we can watch a bit of light telly, we dont always want hard-hitting stuff
Oohhh I think I caught this halfway through with my Nan, is Richard Fleeshman in it? If so, then I thought it was very very good and I'll be watching again next week :)
I watched this too, and thought it was rather good.
It is a nice novel, idea - well cast and with the potential to be a good drama series.
However, I did think the arrival of Sarah Alexander and the immediate sexual tension between her and Neil Pearson, was a tad contrived and predictable.
I like Debbie Horsfield's writing and loved the Riff Raff Element which was years ago..in the 90's - I think. Did anyone else watch this??
Anyway, back to All The Small Things - I shall watch and see whether it continues to hold my interest in the next few weeks.
*T*:)
I thought it was nice, something a bnit lighter for a change. Although the singing did kind of get on my nerves but i should expect it as it is about a church choir!
Anyone know where it is set?
Filming took place in Glossop and Manchester :)
Aww I proper love this! :D Its a real feel good program :D
ive only just seen last weeks, i agree it was really slow to begin with but then i thought it picked up further on and got quite interesting. havent seen this weeks yet though
Does anyone know if they do all their own singing
I just love this program, it gives you warm fuzzies.. looks like there is one adult and one teen with some sort of learning disability.
All of the characters are awesome !!!! Love "shrek" hes a sweetheart.. hope they find a home for him ...
Alan i checked the web site it didn't say, but that Clifford person seems to have a musical background ( ie Guys and Dolls etc ) so dunno
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pre...llthings.shtml
Well Richard whats his name from corrie will do his own singing
not sure on the others
Sarah Alexender does not. I saw an interview with her on the Alan Titchmarch show the other week and she admitted that she is faking it. Most others probably do as well, though I am not certain. :)
I think its nice, just quite feel good. I liked the fact she finally stood up to him at the end. I like the Jake.
I thought it was glossop, i was location spotting last night, Glossop, Bolton town Hall and Castlefield for the big posh flats. I am getting good at this!
After seeing the second episode, I'm really getting into it and hope that it continues to keep up the pace, and not get too *Soapy*..
The musical idea is good - the characters are also a bit different - which is refreshing.
However, I have to say that Sarah Lancashire, or *Esther* must have a huge tolerance threshhold, as I'm afraid that had I been in her shoes I would have had her errant husband's wedding tackle in a box by now!
He is acting in such a ridiculous way, asking her to *wait for him to have his time away * etc. Yeah - Right!!:rotfl:
As for Layla -- well, she is so annoying to the point of my blood boiling!!! Grrr!! <listening to her tales of woe to Michael... nasty manipulative bi*ch!>:wall:
TTFN *T*:)
I would do the same as you do, Tigerpip, but I suppose there are partners who are willing to wait for their loved ones to come back to them, and lots do, I suppose. He is probably having his mid-life crisis :)
Yes, Perdita, you are probably right - but I wonder what would happen if/when Esther had/has a mid-life crisis and the tables were turned and she was all glammed up and had a thing for a much younger guy - the new curate Jake, for instance?... you can bet your life he would come running back to her at a sprint....:moonie:
especially when the new girlfriend starts demanding this and that..and he realises what an idiot he has been, and what he actually had at home. Some men just want what they cannot have...<grass being greener on the other side, and all that>
Some men!!!! Grrr! they are just small boys in large pants!
The grass that appears to be greener on the other side will need cutting at some time too though, that is what a lot of people do not think about :)
Happy Easter to you too :D
I think Nemanja and Jake need to think about security, first the tools go missing, then they come back to find the place vandalised. Esther really is a saint for voting Layla onto the committee, after all that has happened. She should know that this will mean bad news for her and her friends  Glad that the Serbian couple got married in the end and good to see Alec Gilroy (Roy Barraclough) on tv again as the vicar. :) I really enjoy this drama. :cheer:
Yes, Perdita - I am enjoying this drama too, and thought the wedding was delightful.. in fact the whole concept of this little drama is nice and *different*.
However, at the same time, I was getting a little angry that Esther was too accommodating at the meeting. I wouldn't have been so generous. ( I would have probably spiked Layla's coffee with arsenic!) :ninja:
I loved it at the end, watching Esther's husband Michael seething - as she danced with Jake though! :D
I am rather surprised at the daughter Georgia - she is not being very loyal to her mum by living with Michael and Layla - although I guess she is feeling rather confused at the whole set up.
I cannot wait for Layla/Michael to come to blows as they inevitably will..
I am really enjoying this new program, and I can see there is going to be alot of FIGHTS between the OTHER WOMAN and Michael:cool: .. Hmmmmmmm wonder where all her money is coming from ???She sure seems to have deep pockets,,,:hmm:
Ok guys -- what did you make of last night's episode??
I thought it was quite good in as much as we found out about the relationship between Jake and Layla....(although I had an inkling of it anyway)
I loved the alternative funeral burial or cremation!! - the music was beautiful - and the emotional scenes in the church with Jake and Ethel and the revelation from Gilbert when she confronted him, were quite moving. :crying:
Maybe the rift can now be healed between the sisters.
I also like the fact the Esther's husband is finally realising what a totat d**k-head he has been, or is being! I still hope she doesn't go back to him - but I have a feeling she will.:nono:
*T*
I have missed it, could somebody just briefly explain what happened? I can't watch it on iplayer etc. due to my location :(
Ok then, I will have a bash..(not very good at this kind of thing really.):p
Brief synopsis. (hope this helps a little bit) sorry about I-player.
The death of Binsey (Monica's) brother Edgar, comes as rather a shock to all his friends, as they are performing together having fun, at an impromptu gig at the church.
Jake and Esther are thrown together, when Binsey enlists their help in pulling off Edgar's rather unconventional(to say the least) last request…to have a funeral pyre like the one given to an old member of a rock band.(I’m guessing in the 70’s). Binsey is the Executrix of the will and wants to carry out his last wishes...much to Ethel's horror!
Layla and Michael seem to be having a few thoughtful *moments* after she invites Esther's boys to dinner...and Layla describes Kyle as *difficult*..(the dinner party scene was interesting as you can imagine!) haha!
Jake decides to come clean to Esther - both about his past(he was/is an alcoholic) and his feelings for her. He also discloses that Layla is his sister.
Binsey (or Monica) Edgar and Ethel Tonks are all related, but have been estranged for twenty or so years after they find out that Gilbert, (Ethel’s hubby) had been having an affair.
The end scene at night, shows Esther’s little group on the top of the dales (or whatever hilly range it is)….watching the funeral pyre of Edgar – all singing and playing instruments together.
Finally, Ethel and Gilbert ( having made up after a heated revelation about the affair with the other woman and their (Ethel and Gilbert’s) sexless marriage, whilst standing in the churchyard after the funeral standby, watching at a distance, too. (It was quite emotional)
The funeral was kind of hi-jacked - they (Esther and Binsey and co, stole the body to take Edgar to his final resting place)
Sorry Perdita, I told you I was rubbish at this kind of thing..*T*
I was rather shocked last night
why abbie? i love this show- how cute is jake the vicar? although sometimes esther acn come a cross as a bit up her self
i was shocked too, i really was not expecting the sister thing
I really really love this show,,, do we know how many episodes are left for us to watch of this series ??? I hope it returns again ....
I sure did not see the sister thing coming AT ALL,, I do not like I mean do not like Ethel, I just do not like the actress that plays her at all.:thumbsdow :nono:
How on earth did Ethel figure out where the funeral pyre was going to be ???
Layla is grating on my nerves !!!!!!!!!!! I just do not like the airhead...:thumbsdow
Hi Jodi -- we are left with just the final episode of this drama series which is going to be shown Tuesday evening.
I also hope we see a return at some time, but think possibly the drama has run its course, and may not have enough oomph ( or new ideas) for a return..
However, we shall see..:hmm:
I'm guessing that at some time when Ethel and her brother and sister were still friends/talking to one another, the location of the previous funeral (the old rock-band member) was known to them all..??:searchme: It could, of course just be she saw the fire from the road and turned up!-:p
*T*
She knew because Binsey said remember the lead singer of the band, and she did.. Thats how she came to end up there. i think anyway.
I really hope Esther and Jake nd up together, they so cute..
Not sure what to make of the ending, Esther's behaviour got on my nerves at the end. I suppose it is left open now for a second series though.
i agree totally, she was a bit pompous and up herself!!!!
i thought she should have got with jake
