It's been nine months in the making and next week, EastEnders' Heather Trott finally drops that almighty bombshell we've been eagerly anticipating - when she gives birth to a healthy baby boy. Oh, and we also discover the answer to that all-important question: 'Who's The Daddy?' Heather's surprise baby shower ends in panic when her waters suddenly break, so with that, Pat hotwires Shirley's ice cream van and rushes everyone to hospital where Heather welcomes her son into the world. What does Heather call her bundle of joy? How does she inform the baby's daddy that he has a son? We recently gave Cheryl Fergison a call to find out more.
At the beginning of the week, Heather ends up going on maternity leave…
"It's Heather's last day at the Minute Mart and she's hinting that she's leaving to everyone that walks in and they don't care! Patrick even says that Heather can finish the shift early and go home. Heather's really down at this point and Patrick suddenly emerges from the shop and she thinks he's remembered but he's only out there to take her tabard and name badge off her!"
Her friends haven't forgotten, though, have they?
"Well, when Heather gets home, there's Peggy, Patrick and Pat waiting for her. Shirley appears in a Halloween disguise, too! They've arranged this baby shower for her and Heather's made up. Heather reminisces with Patrick about children as the whole thing brings back memories for him when he was a younger father. It's quite a sweet bonding session between them."
All doesn't go quite to plan, though, does it?
"No - it literally all goes splash! Heather's waters break. That was an interesting concept to try and make that look real. We had several ideas about balloons and gloves filled with water. In the end, I had this balloon between my legs and burst it with my nutcracker thighs. You just see this huge gush! I have to admit, I don't remember a gush myself, but in true EastEnders style, we have a water display! It's all a bit of a shocker and everyone starts panicking."
How does she get to the hospital?
"This was an interesting one! Pat hotwires Shirley's ice cream van because Shirley's nowhere to be seen. I think she's doing some skulduggery with Phil at that point. So Pat, Peggy, Patrick and Heather are all in the back and rush to the hospital. It's like something from a comedy film!"
Heather makes the most random choice of birthing partner, doesn't she?
"Heather doesn't really get a choice because Pat and Peggy are still arguing about their respective families and Patrick's the one who has to wheel me into the room, so he ends up as the birthing partner."
How does Heather cope during the birth?
"She takes quite good control, actually. She sees that Patrick's not really up to it and desperately wants to leave the room but Heather doesn't want him to go. She's a bit perturbed, though, because she doesn't have her birthing kit with her! There are some very funny moments where Heather starts reciting all the Wham CDs and chart positions to help her through. At one point, it gets really painful for her and Patrick starts singing 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go' and I join in! I ask Patrick to be godfather, too. He's made up about that."
And she has a baby boy… How did the gender mix-up come about?! What does she call him?
"Yeah, Heather thought she was having a baby girl, but when it's born, Patrick tells her that she has a boy! She has this moment where she realises that George Michael has been the only man in her life for years and years and there's this lovely moment where she has the baby in her arms and picks up her purse, takes out a picture of George Michael and speaks to her own little boy and says that he's now her George Michael, before putting the photo in the bin…"
Do you think Heather will be a good mum?
"Heather will be a fantastic mum. She'll make a few mistakes but with Shirley, they'll have a lot of fun and laughs. Heather has a great love for children anyway."
Then Heather decides to contact the father…
"This is where I think the writing's been really clever. When you watch it, you'll see what I mean. They have the suspects - Minty, Phil, Darren and Billy - and all their phones ring. Heather leaves a voicemail on the daddy's phone to let them know that they've become a dad. There are several cuts to all the various suspects and you see each of them flying to the hospital…"
'EastEnders' Heather on Queenie and Shirley
Heather Trott becomes Mamma Trott next week when she gives birth to a healthy baby boy called George Michael. No surprises there, then. Well, apart from the fact that her baby's actually a boy. She was actually labouring under the impression (see what I did there) that she was carrying a daughter.
If you've not read the main segment of my interview with Cheryl Fergison, then have a looksee at this page here. Read on, though, to hear Cheryl's thoughts on Shirley (Linda Henry) and mummy Queenie.
Shirley's up to no good at the minute, is she?
"Shirley's doing something with Phil during the birth. She's off on her own agenda with him and receives a phonecall a little too late. There's a lot of really lovely stuff in the hospital with Shirley and Heather after the baby's born. They decide that they're going to cope with the baby together and that's something that brings a lot of memories back for Shirley."
Will Shirley be Godmother?
"We filmed this recently and Heather's a bit upset because later on in the scripts, Heather asks her to be but Shirley says no. She says things like, 'I'll pay for his first pint and his first hooker, but I don't think I'm going to be his Godmother'. That's if we get as far as the Christening, though. You never know with EastEnders, do you?!"
Will we be seeing Grandma Queenie?
"Not as far as I know. Heather phones her up in the hospital explaining what's happened and basically she turns around and says that she can't believe Heather's had a baby and whoever got her pregnant must've been drunk as a skunk. It's a total realisation for Heather that she doesn't have her mother any longer. I think that'll be one of the last conversations Heather has with her mummy for a while."
Any ideas who it is Darren maybeQuote:
Meanwhile, Kirkwood also hinted at surprising developments in store for troubled mum Heather Trott, who has experienced a tough time in Walford lately.
He said: "Heather will find love with a mystery man whose identity will shock everyone. You might even know him already."
I am starting to think it could be Patrick
Wow Patrick and Heather is this worse than Darren and Heather
Am i missing something here? The opening post in this thread was dated 2009.
I'm going with Stud Muffin Phil
For once Heather Trott is set to have a smile on her face!
The EastEnders character (played by Cheryl Fergison) will take a trip to Southend-on-Sea later in the summer, where she finally meets someone who could turn out to be her soul mate.
Pictures in the latest edition of Inside Soap magazine show the hapless single mum dressed in retro Eighties fashions, alongside her best pal. But it's the appearance of Andrew, played by comedian and star of BBC Four sitcom Getting On, Ricky Grover, that really puts a smile on her face.
Andrew is seen wearing a T-shirt with the words Freedom Fest on it - could they both be attending a festival named after a song by Heather's idol George Michael?
"Heather's had a pretty rough time with blokes, and she's almost given up on falling in love," an insider told the mag. "But in Andrew she finds someone she really connects with. It'll be interesting to see if their flirtation develops into a full-on romance."
The source added that Andrew would eventually follow Heather back to Walford: "He's got more than one reason to visit her later though - but just what is his other link to Albert Square?"
Andrew is Rose's son (Dot's nephew)
EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison is to leave the soap next year, it has been announced.
The actress's character Heather Trott will bow out from the BBC drama "in dramatic circumstances" in early 2012, The Mirror reports.
An EastEnders spokesperson told the newspaper: "We can confirm Cheryl Fergison will be leaving EastEnders when her contract comes to its natural conclusion next year."
It is currently unclear whether Heather will be killed off in her exit storyline or if the door will be left open for the future. However, EastEnders sources have promised a "fitting end" for the character.
"Heather's character has been hugely popular over the years, but the decision has been taken to cut her out of the show before viewers tire of her," one insider told the tabloid.
"Cheryl will leave when her contract comes to an end, but it's set to be a dramatic exit which will see the character go out with a real bang."
Heather was initially introduced to EastEnders in June 2007 as a guest, but she was later upgraded to a Walford regular.
Memorable moments for the character include her double act with Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) and the 'Who's The Daddy?' mystery surrounding her 2009 pregnancy.
Poor Heather, I suppose someone has to go to make way for all these new Moons.
Guess her Goat herder /shop keeper husband will leave her now, that the CASH COW is gonna dry up...
Yeah you got that right Jodi. Wonder what will happen to George if she dies.
He will need to go and live with Darren. EE made a huge mistake. They should have made Phil the daddy and him and Shirley could bring him up as you say.
She isnt the worst character I can think of worse (Jodie, Poppy, Denise, Lauren, Abi, and Lola)
I hope Heather gets a happy exit maybe George Michael comes and takes her away
Shirley will be lost without her love their friendship
EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison today released a short statement about her forthcoming departure from the soap on the official BBC website.
Last week, it was confirmed that the actress's character Heather Trott will bow out from the show in early 2012.
Speaking of her exit for the first time, Fergison commented: "I've had a wonderful time at EastEnders, it's been a privilege to be part of such an amazing programme and working alongside a fantastic group of people.
"I'm really excited about exploring new opportunities."
The official site says that details of Heather's final storyline are being kept under wraps. However, it was previously reported that she will leave "in dramatic circumstances".
Heather was initially introduced to EastEnders in June 2007 as a guest, but she was later upgraded to a Walford regular.
AXED EastEnder Cheryl Fergison has spoken of her shock at being given the boot — and revealed she's now set her sights on Strictly Come Dancing.
Cheryl confessed she was left gutted and baffled when bosses gave her the shove last month after nearly five years as dopey Heather Trott.
Speaking for the first time since her ejection, she told TV Biz: "I have to be honest, I was shocked when EastEnders told me they weren't renewing my contract.
"I don't know why they did it. I love playing Heather, but I guess she is like Marmite — people either love her or hate her.
"I want to thank everyone for not punching me."
The 47-year-old actress said she was glad the BBC soap had given her five years of work. And she revealed she asked bosses not to tell her how her character will make her exit — as she feared she might blab.
Cheryl said: "I said to them, 'Thank you for having me and please don't tell me how I go'. I know everyone's going to ask me and I won't be able to keep quiet, so I just want to find out when I get the script. I don't even want to know if I'll be killed or if the door will be left open."
Cheryl is due to be written out at the start of next year and bosses are still deciding whether to kill her off or send her on her way in the back of a black cab.
Either way they are promising a "dramatic" departure. Cheryl joked that she had some ideas: "I think Heather's exit should involve her running away to tour with George Michael. That should definitely happen. I'd also like her to romp with Jack before she goes. He's had everyone else in the Square so it's about time he had Heather!"
Cheryl added: "I'd like them to write a spin-off show for her and Linda Henry (the actress who plays her Albert Square sidekick Shirley Carter). I love those characters."
She revealed she hopes to bag a role in next year's series of the BBC's other flagship show — Strictly Come Dancing.
Cheryl said: "Now I'd like to do other things, maybe some presenting, maybe Strictly. I think I'd be the Ann Widdecombe of the contest, but there's definitely no harm in trying."
Ex-Tory MP Ann was a hit on the dance show last year.
Cheryl also said she fancied trying her hand at comedy, adding: "I love doing comedy, so more of that would be great. I'd do stand-up but I don't think anyone would pay to see me."
She said the highlight of her Enders stint was "having my own dressing room with my name on it. Or the canteen."

Well it's nice to know that she's job hunting already. No offence to Cheryl but like so many soap stars reality tv shows is the only option.
I really liked Heather. Wonder how Shirl will cope?
EastEnders character Heather Trott will be murdered, a report has claimed.
According to The Mirror, the Albert Square favourite will die in a shock twist in early 2012.
"Heather's life will change dramatically in the new year," a source claimed. "Things seem to be going brilliantly for a while. She has a new man in her life and there is even talk of marriage.
"But things soon take a dramatic turn for the worse and Heather ends up being killed in cold blood.
"Her exit will stun the Square and everyone is looking over their shoulder wondering who is responsible. Even when the killer emerges there will be *repercussions for years ahead."
Actress Cheryl Fergison revealed to the newspaper that she would prefer a lighter send-off, saying: "I'd like it to involve George Michael. He could take her on tour.
"She's had four years of struggles so it might be nice," the star added. "I don't mind, though - a big weepy would be interesting. I've had an amazing four years and it has been a privilege to be part of such an institution."
The 47-year-old was axed by producers in September after five years in the role.
What about little George? Don't tell me he is send to Darren?
