Surgery door slams on Enders' Dr. May

Twisted Dr. May Wright – actress Amanda Drew – and on-screen partner Rob Minter (Stuart Laing) will dramatically bow out of EastEnders when the Square's Rob-Dawn-May baby plot reaches its eagerly-anticipated climax, Digital Spy can reveal.

Next week sees Rob and May hold Dawn (Kara Tointon) hostage in their countryside retreat, where May threatens to get her hands on Dawn's baby by any means possible.

But May's dream of a perfect family life with Rob quickly crumbles around her.

Last month, producers took the decision to axe their baby abduction storyline due to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal.

And, despite having filmed nearly all of the original scripts, show bosses re-wrote and re-shot the entire culmination of the plot.

Hinting at the warped doctor's fate, a show source told DS: "There are some really shocking scenes to come. Viewers won't believe how far Mad May pushes it to get what she wants - but will she succeed? Or will she meet an unexpected demise?"

Of her exit, Amanda Drew said: "May has been a fantastic role to play. I've really enjoyed playing the part over the past few months and it's been an amazing plot to be part of. Although she didn't start out bad, I think it's right she goes as it's indefensible what she does."

Executive producer Diederick Santer told us: "Dr May and Rob - Amanda Drew and Stuart Laing - have led Dawn and the audience a merry dance this year.

"They have both given fantastic, gripping performances and we have loved having them. We wish them both all the best for the future."

Cant say Im bothered about Rob leaving, but mad May is a great character, played by a really good actor. I'd rather they got shot of Dawn, personally!

I will miss May in a funny sort of way, shes been truly evil and fantastic to watch.

I absolutelty love May. It's true that her treatment of Dawn is appalling but while you ca't feel sorry for Stella despitec her being a great charecter and Sophie being a terrific actres I can sympathise with May a little. Rob and may should be together and Dawn should find a new boyfriend - mmm - Garry maybe?

She may be a good actress but im SO SO SO glad they are getting rid of her, she was just not credible as a person (even in soap land). More the writers fault than anyone els

Well each to their own but I'm an absolute May fan and I think hair tied backsuits her really well. I know she is slightly insane but Dawn should have realised her desperation and not gone bak n her surrogacy - legal or not. She should have gone through with the surrogacy andcertainly not used the baby to win Rob back if he wnted to be with his wife. To quote Peggy "May is a good doctor and a decent woman" - May and Rob forever...

Peggy dosent actually know the real may though does she! Im sure she would soon take that statement back!

Dawn agreed to a surrogacy when she was feeling down about rob not bwing with her. Once pregnant and you feel all the love and the kicks and you see that baby growing in your stomach things change! Dawn had every right to not go on with the surrogacy its HER baby!

i cant stand may, but then shes a nasty character, she not there to be liked!

I really feel for her though. I don't hate her though I certainly agree that what she did was appalling - but Rob is right, she is ill. Remember he said to Dawn "She's mad you know, she is actually insane". Yet I think she truly does love Rob and Rob loves her. It's just her baby fixation is dangerous. I can't help feeling sorry for her,very sorry. There is still a part of me that likes May despite everything just as Rob still loved her despite everything.

She is a very very sad women who just desperately wants a child! If rob loves her then he should have stuck her somewhere and made her well again.

As you dislike May you will probably like what happens to her on Mondasy. i don't like it though. I am so sorry for her. Yes maybe Rob should have sought hekp but the poor chap is a bit overewhelmed by all this and because some of his decisions showed he lacked backbone, that doesn't mean he does not love May.

Well - I suppose - but she doesn't actually steal it from what is says in the spoilers, she gives it back to Dawn and she is a bit crazed and desperate and if only Dawn had done her surrogacy properly it wouldn't have come tothat.

But the baby has nothing to do with May, Dawn was coerced into agreeing to surrogacy due to her feelings for Rob (plus Rob and Mays dispicable manipulations), hardley the best basis for such an agreement.

It is May who should have realised the coercive nature of thier surrogacy agreement and ditched the whole thing, she has no legal or moral claims to the baby and certainly deserves to be arrested, kidnap is an offensive afterall (not to mentino she held Dawn against her will and threatened to cut her bady out)

i havent read the whole of this thread, or the other spoilers. but i can't see how someone stealing a baby could not deserve being arrested. from what ive watched the past few months she deserves everything that's coming to her. even if she does give the baby back, it's just not on! saying that if she does get arrested she's got the mad plee down!

Maybe - but all the same I can't help liking May despite everything and I really hope to see her back at some point and i am very sorry for her. Still can't help admiring her when she goes about being the good doctor etc - her confidence, independence etc. By the way who will be GP when May leaves, does anyone know?

I am a bit taken aback with some of the mentality here,, so some one is saying that May does not deserve to be arrested for STEALING A CHILD,, cos she gave it back,, excuse me,, what she did is NOT OK.. and yes she deserves to be arrested and charged ..to the extent of the law.
Rob should be arrested too ... cos hes as DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS. Hes weak and spineless..
he was an accessory to all the things May did to Dawn, so he should not go UNPUNISHED. If I recall Dawn took those "surrogate"papers to Stella, and Stella said the papers were not legal nor binding..So we all know that the paper work was not above board.
In addition to them hand cuffing her to the bed, and drugging her, and planning to cut the baby out of her was NOT OK either,, that should be added to Rob and May's list of NO-NO's:nono:

I am not saying that what May did was right - of course it wasn't but I'm sorry to see her arrested. I mean if someone is out of their mind - but I don't think she would harm the baby, she was just desperate and when people are desperate, well...I hope at ;least it will be a short sentence - its not like she kiled anyone or anything. I can't help pitying her all the same and I really hope she'll be backat some point. Amanda plays her brilliantly.

I'm so sorry May was arrested - that was a cruel trick, keeping her there till the police came. I think her sentence would be shorter though because it is obvious that she is not well and from what she said she was going to go away and leave Dawn alone - all she wanted to do was give her the clothes and toys, apologise and then say goodbye. If it were me I would probably not have pressed charges despite the bad treatment simply because i pity her and I realise that she is a desperate and very unhappy woman. But May's right about one thing - she should have left her husband. He was the one who created this mess in the first place. Both women are better off without that loser.

She was tricked into going with him....erm, didnt she think she was going to live with him and his parents?....There's NO way she would have gone there if she had known May was waiting, or what she planned to do, ie cut the baby out of her, but Rob knew this was the plan (maybe not about the C section, but about May planning on taking the baby from Dawn).

Thus Rob was an accomplice, he aided May.

Also he could have uncuffed Dawn, but he did nothing to release her, or let her go. He helped keep her imprisoned in that room. So yep, he is guilty of being more than an idiot IMO!

No of course she did not know May was there or what was going to happen but I still don't think May needed to be arrested - after all she did apologise - and as for Rob, well yes he could have released her but he did feel bad aboiut the whole thing.

So apologising makes it all okay? :eek: She could have killed Dawn. And Rob couldnt have felt bad enough about the whole thing, otherwise he would have released her!

Im glad she was arrested, but I liked the character and the actress who played her, shame she had to leave, but I guess after what she did that was going to be the only right conclusion to the storyline.

And i don't think despite this she would have harmed the bay or killed Dawn or anything. It's sad to see her arrested though despite the fact that she undoubtedly did wrong. Surely there must havebeen another way.

Thanks for saying that Sarah,, as I said earlier I can not understand the mentality of any one who could see May was to be forgiven or did not deserve to be arrested or whatever ..May and Rob were both in the wrong, and hee hee you are right I wish Dawn had slugged her before the cops came ..:D

Sorry Lizzie, but really cannot see how its not justifiable, May being arrested. And Rob deserves his just desserts too. Did Beverly Allitt not deserve to be arrested because she suffered from Munchausens and thats why she killed the babies in her care on the maternity ward? Does the kidnapper of Maddie McCann not deserve to be arrested and brought to justice when/if they are eventually found. Why is this so different - because Dawn initially said that she would allow herself to become a surrogate instead, because she was scared of becoming a mother.

There are surrogacy laws in place for a reason - these have to be adhered to for all parties concerned, and just because someone is desperate to have a child, it doesn't give them the right to steal someone elses. Not under any circumstances. I'm assuming you aren't a parent - if you were, I honestly don't feel that you would feel this way about May or Rob.

May definetly deserved to be arrested - she was mad! She handcuffed Dawn to the bed and tried to cut the baby out of her stomach - there is no way May could get away with that by just apologising! Justice was definetly done in my opinion with May being arrested!

Of course in real life people deserve punishment for crimes but this is not real life. I do have sympathy with May though and I can't help liking her despite all this just as Rob always loved her.Hopefully if it is established that she is ill she will get a shorter sentence. Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric disorder in which those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves.

Nope, its not real life, you are right, but EE are supposed to portraying a true to life story, in which case, she deserves everything she gets.
