Thanks for that Richie.... I am a big EE fan but it was nice to read what the writer had to say... especially the bit about the other writer just not arguing, taking the cash and running... I will have to say that I find nowadays the best episode are written by Sarah Phelps... I always enjoy the ones she writes
I agree with practically everything the writer says about the present day EE. I agree with Shiv about Sarah Phelps. Sarahs problem is that she writes a few good believable episodeds and then they bring in some trendy luvvie with their own agenda who fails to grasp the way in which Sarah was going with the character and turns them into something else. EE lacks both continuity and consistency. Its as if the scriptwriters never meet so somene seems to pick up a story and continue with a character disregarding what has happened the previous few months.Quote:

I have a friend who works at Elstree on Holby City and the writers on EastEnders all got changed six months ago under orders from John Yorke. Only 70 episodes are to be shared between 30-plus the fringe writers. With the long serving writers, Phelps, Ashdown, Andrews and co all taking the main crop. These changes are only now appearing on screen, I think this week infact.
I suggest you go and look at imdb and Paul Rose. He is a **** writer who has never worked since EE so maybe the reason he couldn't understand the show was just down to the fact he was crap.
Oh dear this seems to have touched a raw nerve. I read the blog that Richie posted and agreed with it as judging by the number of thanks he received so did a lot of others. As usual everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

He wrote this 6 months ago and not in 2003 when you said it was muck.. I love EE and I think he made some good points. His open line was "I started to watch an episode of EastEnders recently for the first time in several years" so he obviously equated the standard of "currrent standing" to what he experienced 4 years ago..Quote:

Reading his article in full I feel its a very fair and unbiased account of what happens out at Elstree land. This man worked on the EE team unlike someones friend who worked there and happened to know somone who overheard the tea lady discussing x y and z. I realise you are a big EE fan and I respect this but EE needs major help if it wants to win back the droves of viewers who have left it. MAybe they dont want us older viewers now. But most of us were young viewers when EE started. It could be that we have outgrown EE and maybe its now aimed and the younger end of the market. Years ago I would have fought tooth and nail against anyone who ran down my beloved EE. Now I think its just plain rubbish pure and simple with the occasional good episode standing out.Quote:
