Don't know if anyone is interested but over the next few days there is a lot of documentaries (eye witness accounts and such) about the 9/11 attacks
2 have caught my eye Tonight 9pm on C4: miracle on stairway B. This is the account of people who walked from the tower despite been buried in the rubble.
And Thursday 9pm BBC1 (can't remember the name) but it gives account of surviours on the floor just and below where the planes hit.
I will be watching tonight C4 then!! I love thier 9pm programs. 5 years on.. wow..
wow has it really been 5 years. i remeber clearly the towers collapsing on tv. might as well watch the c4 then. seems interesting.
Its hard to believe that it is 5 years already. I watched a documentary about the destination of the planes in the attack. I still found it very emotional to watch
What a show... got mum watching it to and it was soo sad seeing it all over again. Mum got a bit upset.. It was really moving.. their stories and the miracle..
Especially the sun coming out of all that dust/smoke!!
I watched this last night and it was very moving and heartbreaking. I was asking my boyfriend if it seemed like ages from when the first tower fell and when the second did (I know it was only 25 mins) he said everyone was expecting it and it was just a case of when.. I was in labour when all this happened so I only every seen the film footage.. to me both towers fell with in a minute of each other cause I never saw it real time..
I think it is one of those things. Everyone knows where they were when this happened..
I can remeber very vididly where I was and what I was doing when the tragedy happened. I was at my sisters and she was playing elite force on the computer over the internet. she used to play matches with some american users during a game one of them started saying all this stuff about a plane hitting the twin towers and the pentagon. We thought they were making all the stuff up about the terrorists so I went through to the living room and put the telly onto sky news just as the plane was about to crash into the second tower. It was so sureal as if I was sitting watching a movie I just couldn't believe it
Its absolutely terrible that the events of 9/11 have been forgotten. 3500 ordinary decent people yellow/black/white protestant catholic/muslim/hindu/jewish lost their live to some religious nuts. All it was was MURDER] and for what so as we all could live under Sharia Law. Bliars law is bad enough but relious and political freedom our God given (well by my God anyway) rights so we should all join together in memory of the innocent and stiffen our resolve to defeat the terrorist thugs.
I'm in New York in November this year, and I will be once again going to the site of the Trade Centers to pay my respects to all those that lost their lives 5 years ago (as I did the year after it happened). No one should forget why they died and I hope a fitting memorials/tributes are permanently laid where all victims fell.
when we were in new york we went to the site of the world trade centre to pay our respects, it really is quite upsetting going there and seeing the site knowing what used to be there. also they have pictures and messages from kids whos relatives died that day, they made me cryQuote:

i agree with both ems and alan that people should never forgot those that died, and its sad to say it but i think that quite a few people already have. i dont know whether they will have a 1 or 2 minute silence on the 11th as its been 5 years and if they do i know ill be taking part in it, however i know a lot of people who wont, like my old school for instance, they never take part in the silence for remembrance day so i wont be surprised if they ignore this one too. it makes me really angry that people can just forget all these victims that lost their lives, and they cant even take 1 or 2 minutes out of their lives to remember them!

Don't apologise Di M - its true. So many people can't be bothered. It seems the same with Remembrance Day - people are far less likely stay silent and remember those that fell in the Great War and WW2 these days too.Quote:

It is my daughters bday on 9/11. I have tried to explain to her what happened on the day she was born as she sees it all over the news on the day and so many people have given me books/videos on 9/11 for her for when she gets bigger.
Every year on her Bday, I watch the 9/11 one year on video made by the French cameramen.. I don't forget what happened and my daughter won't forget either. it was a historic day for her to be born on
We went to New York with the school in 2005 and we went to see Ground Zero but we wasnt there long because teachers wanted to go off in Centry 21 to do their shopping, i do remember them building something on the site though, looked like flats or offices. When the teachers went off alot of us stayed and talked about where we was on that day so at least we had our pirorities right. We spent about 2 hours around that area (teachers and shops is a nightmare combination) me and the girls i was with went shooping for a bit but spent most of the time sitting by the gates of Ground Zero talking about it with a few other lads.
Although it seems to be forgotten a bit i think alot of people still remember it, i think its going to be with alot of people for a very long time and alot of people will probably tell kids about it so it carries on being remembered
I watch the 9/11 millionaire widows last night, it was shocking how greedy some people are.. one woman was a relationship with another woman who died in 911. Obviously they were not married so the brother claimed the compensation and told her that she could have some of it if she says she was not in a gay relationship with his sister :eek:
Another woman, her boyfriend was a police man, and they had a 3 month old baby at the time. His mother told the compensation board that he had no intention of marrying the girl and got all the money for herself.. How can people do that???
I am going to watch the other documentary tonight and next week on C4 is a program called 9/11 liars.. saw a clip, some guy crying saying he lost his wife and the interviewer says "I interviewed her last week" :eek::eek::eek:
I think there is a 9/11 pogramme on BBC1 tonight, what side you been watching them other ones on Siobhan??
yeh im going to watch the one tonight, the others have been on channel 4, i watched the staiway B one this morning cos i was out on monday, i cant believe they managed to survive when the whole building fell on top of them!Quote:

that documentary on BBC last night was amazing. Real life storys of the people who survived.. some on the actuall floors the plane hit. It was probably one of the most compelling and moving documentaries I have seen on this
I agree Siobhan - compelling viewing, done very well. Even the guy, Victor, who couldn't go on and Harry who stayed with him and then they both perished, the one who got out, but felt like a coward because he didn't stay with them both or try and get them out. And then the firefighters that, had they been on one floor higher or lower, when the buildings had collapsed, they would have perished, but just through stopping to help the woman (Veronica), it slowed their descent enough that they were on the right floor at the right time and survived. The Engineer (Frank) and the other guy that was with him that helped save 50 peoples lives, but perished themselves. It showed true courage and character in these people and those that have come through it and survived.Quote:

Very good programme and well handled i think, certainly made me understand the whole thing more as i was only 12 when it happened so didnt really know much

Plans for three huge buildings which will replace the buildings destroyed in the September 11 terror attacks on New York have been revealed.
The skyscrapers will be built in a part of the city called Ground Zero, which is where the twin towers of the World Trade Center used to stand.
They were destroyed in 2001 when armed people took control of passenger planes and flew them into the buildings.
A fourth skyscraper, called the Freedom Tower, will also be built on the site. The work will be finished by 2012.
The towers of the World Trade Center collapsed soon after the planes hit the buildings, killing about 3,000 people.
A memorial park has been built where the towers used to be, and the new buildings will stand in a semi-circle around it.
The tallest of the buildings revealed on Friday will have four diamond shapes on top that will light up part of New York at night.
The three new buildings are designed to look good next to the Freedom Tower - which at 541m (1,776ft) is set to become the tallest building in the United States.

That could have been what they were doing when i was there, now i think of it the sort of place where the building i saw was could have been the start of a semi circle around the site of Ground Zero. Im glad they re building around it and not totally on it.
I couldnt believe it lastnight when they said in that film they knew them 3 people were terrorists and were learning to fly yet they got into America with no problems :eek:
lets hope the new buildings have easier access to get out. the programme showed how difficult it was to get out with stairwells stopping half way down, then you would have to cross the whole building to find the next stairwell to carry on going down, how ridiculous was that!
I'd just like to pay my respects to all those who died, as today is the day.
You just got there before me... I am not sure if there is going to be a minute silence today but I will have my own one as a mark of respect.
We didnt have a silence thing in college but i have spent most of the day thinking about it, i think im more sad about it now that ive been there and also i now know more about it from the programmes that have been on recently so thats another reason ive probably spent most of the day thinking about it
I thought it was the 9th of September because of the switched over dates but then when I woke up I realised it was today..

I'm so upset/angry because someone asked if we are having a minutes silent and the teachers got told nothing about it and the whole class got angry..
We seem to have more care in the world compared to the teachers in our school.. It's really not right!! :(
Its terrible, everyone should do something, its not difficult to stay quiet for 1 minuite in our lives is it?
We had a silence at college, it was a tad difficult as 12 is changeover time but we managed it.

I Automatically Thought We Would Be Having A Minuets Silence But It Never Happend And i Asked The Headteacher Why And He Said He Had Never Really Thought Of But I Had My Own. R.I.P to everyone that died in it.

i dont think there was an official one in the uk (like there is on remembrance day), as on the radio it said about the ones happening in america but didnt mention anything about over here. me and my mum just did our own one at home though
