Sue Cleaver as Eileen Grimshaw
Speaking to Soaplife, she said: "I have it constantly - once a week. I've learned so much about myself by doing it, and it really has changed my life.
"It has given me complete understanding of certain behaviour - why we react in the way we do. It can't help but affect every relationship in your life. I get excited about having therapy each week. It's a bit like going to the gym, but for your mind.
"I've always been fascinated by the good it can do. Personally, I think it should be mandatory. It's a great confidence builder. I am qualified to take clients and have another 18 months to go before I can finish my four-year course in Analysis Psychotherapy at the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy. It's hard work fitting it in with Corrie, but I love it."
Cleaver also added that her Coronation Street fame does not impact her sessions with clients.
She said: "It is maybe a bit weird for them at first, but once we start talking, they forget all about it. The novelty wears off.
"The people come to see me when they have something they want to talk about and when they have a problem. That is what they are concerned about, not who I am."

Corrie boss Stuart Blackburn has revealed he would love to pinch Cain Dingle from rival soap Emmerdale.
The executive producer, who used to be the boss at Emmerdale, thinks Jeff Hordley is superb as the village villain.
And he has also confessed how he would also like to see Edna Birch on the cobbles too.
Asked if he could steal any characters from another soap, Stuart said: "I’m going to be greedy and take two characters from Emmerdale.
"I know I’m biased because I used to work there, but I’d steal Edna Birch and Cain Dingle.
"I think Edna is the ’holy grail’ when it comes to older soap women with a sharp tongue who you just love.
"Shirley Stelfox brings heart and depth to her, but she can be as cutting as hell."
He added: "With Cain it’s completely obvious - he’s a real, tortured human being, and a brilliant soap villain.
"Jeff Hordley is really nice in real life, as well. Astonishingly attractive, talented and a really nice person - so I hate him!":D
Former Coronation Street star Sherrie Hewson is currently eyeing a Weatherfield comeback, and has a rather interesting idea for her character Maureen Naylor.
The actress, who appeared in the show from 1993 to 1997, before returning briefly in 2006, thinks that Maureen could join the queue for Ken Barlow's affections.
Ken is currently at the centre of a love triangle, having found himself in a relationship with Nessa Warner while unaware that his close friend Audrey Roberts has feelings for him.
Discussing the possibility of a return to the soap, Hewson told The Sun: "I loved Maureen. I never thought she finished her story.
"Now if she went back I'd put her with Bill Roache. He's not a comedy character but he's dry; he was great with Raquel.
"If ever Maureen came back that would be a really good match." :D
She was such a silly character made worse by Reg Holdsworth , even sillier .
Yes, but they both provided a lot of fun and entertainment :D
