Girls Aloud have notched up their fourth number one single with 'The Promise'.
The group previously topped the UK singles chart with 2002's 'Sound of the Underground', 2004's 'I'll Stand By You' and 2007's 'Walk This Way', a Comic Relief collaboration with Sugababes.
'The Promise' makes it chart debut in the number one spot, extending the group's run of consecutive top ten hits to 19 and knocking Pink's 'So What' into second place.
Dance collective Guru Josh Project climb to three with 'Infinity 2008', a remake of 1990's 'Infinity (It's Time For The Guru)', which peaked at five.
Notable gains come from Razorlight, who climb from 30 to five with 'Wire To Wire', and Katy Perry, who rises from 26 to seven with 'Hot N Cold'.
Kanye West also climbs into the top ten this week, jumping to a new peak of eight with 'Love Lockdown'.
A charity single recorded by this year's X Factor finalists has debuted at number one on the UK singles chart.
'Hero', a cover of Mariah Carey's 1993 hit, sold 313,244 copies last week to become the fastest-selling single of 2008.
Proceeds from the single go to Help For Heroes, a charity that supports wounded servicemen and women, and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Last week's number one, 'The Promise' by Girls Aloud, falls to two, while Pink slips a place to three with 'So What'.
The only new entry in the top ten comes from Jack White and Alicia Keys, who climb from 18 to ten with 'Another Way To Die', the theme to new Bond film Quantum Of Solace.
The X Factor finalists have vanquished competition from Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Leona Lewis to remain atop the UK singles chart.
Their cover of Mariah Carey's 'Hero' notches up a second week at number one, forcing Beyoncé to settle for a #2 debut with 'If I Were A Boy'.
Girls Aloud slip to three with 'The Promise', while Britney Spears scores her 19th top ten single with 'Womanizer', which makes its chart debut at four.
Other new entries come from Leona Lewis, who bows at five with 'Forgive Me', and Strictly Come Dancing champion Alesha Dixon, who lands at eight with 'The Boy Does Nothing'.
Outside of the top ten, Christina Aguilera debuts at 14 with 'Keeps Gettin' Better', the title track from her upcoming greatest hits album.
