it's just that all my fics so far have had such happy endings and i want to do something different, but i don't know if i can bring myself to make it a sad ending

Yey! I’m finally updating. I’m really sorry it’s been so long but I’ve just got back off holiday so hopefully I’ll be able to update more often again now.
Seen as it’s been so long since I updated, here’s a little recap of my script so far:
o Stuart and Sam were going out
o Jo masters returned and made Sam admit to really loving Stuart
o Both Jo and Sam’s daughter Abi convinced Sam to tell both Stuart and Phil what was really in her heart
o Sam told Stuart she really loved Phil and he was actually quite nice about it – surprising everyone!
o Went for a routine check up at the doctors
o Admitted to Phil she loved him and he returned that love
o Went to pub for a ‘quiet drink’ only to be joined by the rest of the station
o Phil ended up back at Sam’s and they slept together
o Next morning Sam had to leave for an early morning business meeting at work
o Sam received a phone call from her doctor and left for her appointment before Phil arrived for his own shift
I know I’ve been totally neglecting my script lately but please keep reviewing everyone to let me know if you like it or not – then I can try to make it better!
Thanks, stacy

Sam’s head was spinning as she sat in the back of the taxi which was heading back in the direction of Sun Him PoIice Station. After what she had just learned she was in no fit state to drive herself and the kind woman at reception had offered to call her a cab. Sam was pretty much in a kind of daze and didn’t remember agreeing, thanking the woman or even getting into the taxi but here she was, as if in a dream, watching as all the familiar houses of the Sun Hill area went flying past.
Try as she might she couldn’t get the doctor’s voice out her mind.
Flashback
“Miss Nixon, the X-Ray scan detected a small mass on your lung”, he had told her.
Wide-eyed Sam had managed to squeak out, “Mass?”
“Don’t worry”, he assured her with a smile, “there is no cause for alarm. This is common for women of your age. It could be completely treatable.”
“Could be?” Sam was still in complete shock.
“We won’t know for certain until we conduct more tests. However you come in for regular check ups, you lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle and I’m sure there is nothing to worry about.”
End of flashback
That was about the last thing Sam remembered before sitting here in this little claustrophobic taxi.
Once they arrived at Sun Hill Sam handed the driver some money not bothering about her change as she walked in the front entrance and straight up to CID.
Her posture slumped a little when she noticed Phil was not at his desk or indeed anywhere around the office.
Sam didn’t see Jo until she was right up beside her. “Sam?” she asked, making her Sergeant jump a little.
“Jo hi. Have you seen Phil anywhere?”
“Not for a couple of hours. He went out on a job somewhere I think.”
Zain happened to be walking past at that moment and explained “The DCI asked Phil to follow up a couple of leads on a robbery case. He shouldn’t be too long.”
Sam only nodded, wishing she could just make him appear.
Jo had noticed Sam was acting rather oddly and after thanking Zain pulled Sam along behind her, “Come on.”

10 minutes later Phil strolled into CID with a grin on his face. “Zain, I just got a full confession out of a guy about the robbery. Smithy is downstairs now checking him into custody ready for interview.”
“That’s great Serge. Shall we get it over with?”
“Fine by me.”
“Oh, by the way, before I forget Sam came in before looking for you. When you weren’t here she left”
“Was she ok?”
Zain titled his head slightly. “Now you mention it she did seem a little strange . . . quiet.”
“Do you know where she went?”
“Jo took her off somewhere. They didn’t say. Sorry.”
Phil was a little worried now, knowing that Sam wouldn’t purposely seek him at work unless there was something wrong. Anything work related she could have asked someone else in the office if Phil himself wasn’t around. “Zain? About that interview? Can you wait 10 minutes?”
“Sure, I’m sure I can find something to do around here.”
“Cheers, I’ll be as quick as I can.”

It seemed to have taken forever for Jo and Sam to reach the girl’s bathroom downstairs as everyone they met along the way wanted to know how Jo had caught the bad guys in Sheffield. Not wanted to be rude, Jo had tried to evade as many questions as possible, wanting to get Sam alone so she could find out what was wrong.
Finally pushing the door to the bathroom open, Jo checked the place was empty before turning back to Sam who stood silently leaning against the sinks.
“Come on Sam, spill. What’s wrong?”
“I can’t . . . I . . .”
“Did you and Phil have a fight already?”
Sam shook her head, “No Phil’s . . .”
Sam was interrupted by a knock on the door.
Acknowledging who had just walked in, Jo finished her friend’s sentence for her, “Phil’s here.”
Phil, upon noticing Sam’s silent mood walked straight over. “What’s wrong?”
Letting herself be pulled into a hug, Sam burst into tears as Phil held her as her body convulsed with violent sobs.
“I’ll leave you to it”, Jo told them as she walked out.
