Simon Cowell reportedly wants Adele to feature in the final of this year's X Factor at Wembley Arena in December.
The show's bosses reportedly attempted to secure the 'Someone Like You' singer for the Judges' Houses round of the competition, but prior work commitments did not allow for her participation.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday that Cowell is aiming to recruit Adele to perform on both the UK and US versions of the show following an incredibly successful year on both sides of the Atlantic.
"There's no denying Adele is the biggest singer in the world right now and Simon wants her to appear on both the UK and US X Factors," the insider said.
"He couldn't get her for the Judges' Houses stage, so he now wants her to sing with one of the contestants on the grand final in December.
"She is a massive fan of the show and even went to watch the US X Factor auditions earlier this year."
The new panel of judges - consisting of Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland - had urged hopefuls to avoid singing Adele cover versions at auditions earlier this year.
Adele's 21 album was recently certified triple platinum after it managed to shift approximately three million copies in the US.

So Mr Cowell has Adele as his new favourite girl. Didn't see that one coming did we? At least Adele is no Ms Cole she is naturally talented and dose sing live as well as writes her own songs, which is unsual for Mr Cowell as he normally only entertains manufacturing acts. Anyway I'll get back in the knife draw and look forward to seeing the fabulous Adele on the show.

Simon Cowell has sacked the X Factor stylist Grace Woodward after being unimpressed with the contestants' outfits.
Woodward, 33, styled the contestants in last year's series and was also romantically linked with the show's winner Matt Cardle.
However Cowell, 51, was not happy with what she chose for the stars to wear for the live shows and has decided to find someone else.
A source said to UK newspaper Daily Mirror: 'Simon wasn't always a fan of Grace's styling and they've decided to look for someone else. The feeling was they wanted more of a household name.'
Cowell had hit out at Woodward's choices live on the show when she dressed Cardle in a plain white vest and said: 'It looked like you were dragged from the loo on to the stage.'

^ Some of the clothes last year were awful

Oh I don't know Lizann. I thought Matt in his vest was very appealing

Louis Walsh is to head to Barcelona for the Judges' Houses stage of this year's X Factor.
Show sources have revealed to Digital Spy that the 59-year-old music manager will fly out to a luxury residence in the Spanish city to select his contestants for the live shows.
Walsh has traditionally taken the members of his X Factor category to his native Ireland, but previously jetted off to Tuscany in the show's 2009 series.
Former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne is also rumoured to be returning to assist Walsh with his decision, following a successful stint as his co-mentor last year.
Walsh's rival panellist Gary Barlow is said to be heading to Los Angeles for the Judges' Houses round, where he will reportedly be aided by fellow Take That singer Robbie Williams.
'Pass Out' rapper Tinie Tempah, R&B star Usher and N-Dubz member Dappy have all been named as potential guest mentors.
The X Factor returns on Saturday at 8pm on ITV1.
