Winehouse 'glad to be rid of crack'
Amy Winehouse is relieved to be free of crack cocaine, her brother has said.
The singer checked herself into the Capio Nightingale rehab clinic in London after a video appearing to show her smoking the drug was posted on the internet.
However, she left the facility temporarily to perform via satellite at Sunday night's Grammys, where she picked up five awards.
Alex Winehouse revealed that he had visited his sister just weeks before she entered rehab and was shocked by her condition, telling The Sun: "It was hard to take in that the barely communicative shell in front of us was my own flesh and blood."
He said he was proud of her decision to get help for her habit, saying: "Detox was tough, but she did it. She was as bright and vivacious as she had been before her demons took over."
Talking about Sunday's ceremony, he said: "It was without a doubt the greatest night our family has enjoyed in a long, long time. For the first time in God knows how long, my parents were truly happy, and Amy was too."
He added: "She didn't miss crack, she told me, and she was glad to be rid of it. Which was a nice thing to hear."
