Marilyn told Dex that his letter was inappropriate and that she was going to tell his dad, so he covered his tracks and told her that it had been a creative writing assignment! Not sure how much she believed of his story.

He probably got off on diminished responsibility. I don't think the trial was ever shown or talked about. They just went to the city and Morag was working on his case.
