Well done all, you should all be really proud of yourselfs
i think it differs betweens schools/colleges spicy. i dont think either of the schools i went to (the one i did my gcses at or the one i did my alevels at) let you retake your gcses there, if you wanted to retake them you had to do it in your own time at the college. with doing maths at AS, most subjects at AS require you to get a B at gcse, however in some cases the school/college might let you take the subject if you get a C but probably wouldnt if you got anything lower than a C (at the school i did alevels at you had to get a B to do biology but one of the boys got to do it with only a C at gcse although he was the only one who was allowed to). the best thing to do spicy is if you want to retake any of your gcses or if you only get a C in maths, once youve got your results, on the same day go to the school/college where youre going to do your alevels and talk to them about it, theyll let you know if they will let you retake your gcses while doing alevels and if they will allow you to take AS maths with only a C, depending on the circumstances they might let you. but obviously every place is different so your best bet is to ask about it straight away. dont worry about it though til you get your grades, good luck :)
Well done to you all :)
With regards to resitting GCSEs: my 6th form allow us to retake english and/or maths only. It takes up one period a week and you can take four AS or 3 A levels beside it. The teachers go through the areas that people didn't do well on and concentrate on getting those right instead of teaching the whole course in a year. I think only intermediate level is taught (pretty much everyone who does higher pass anyway) as C is the minimum required for universities/employers.
Intermediate has been scrapped. Last year was the last year that could do that, as you can now get a C on Foundation.
Oh righty, didn't know that. There used to be quite a bit of overlap between foundation and intermediate and intermediate and higher.
Wow well done all of you :D
I havent got mine since Im away, but my parents made sure I didnt forget it was results day
It's sooo difficult... which is why I'm dropping it, but I'm worried now that my A Level subjects won't be varied so I don't think it will benefit me :searchme:
Aww well done everyone on results and getting into your Uni's, you should all be so proud of yourselves :D
As for GCSE's, yeah my year was the last to do Intermediate (which is what I did) and I got a C. But when I asked to take it at AS I wasn't allowed but it may be different at your school so give it a try :) You never know if you don't ask
I didn't think variation mattered so much at A2.. when we were choosing our subjects they said that a contrasting subject at AS can be an advantage.
Yeah I wanna do Primary teaching.. I forgot what ebtry requirements are needed, think I'll ahve to check back up on that! Haha
You'll need an A level in a core national curriculum subject such as english, maths, a science, geography or history.
You have to pick a subject to specialise in, which will probably be one of your A Levels, or Gifted & Talented or Special Needs. Some unis make you pick that to start with when you apply, and some make you pick once you've started. The entry requirements are pretty low, it mainly is work experience that counts. I know someone who got BCDe, and is now a teacher at a very good primary school. And she got her job before she even graduated!
EDIT: She specialised in ICT, by the way.
well done to all of you, i hope you are all pleased with your results.
Just got back from Paris, so my results;
A-Psychology - :D soooo HAPPY!
B-Drama - may be being sent off to be re-marked
C-English
D-Health and Social, which i hated, didn't try in and i dropped about 3 months ago.
Not sure on exact marks for what papers, because my friend still has my results, but happy with them :) Gutted with English, but i like failed my coursework so i was never going to do amazing, im retaking it next year.
Well done everyone else :cheer:
Aww well done Layne they're brilliant grades :)
Well done Layne. :)
Well done everyone :D
I got...
Modern European History -
B, A, B.
B overall. (That Trotsky question saved me )
Double Science -
A, C, B, C, D, C.
B (exams) C (coursework) overall
Philosophy -
Theory of knowledge - U :p
Religion - C
Set Texts - B
D overall.
Definately going to drop Philosophy. My mum says I should retake but...I can't see the point in spending money retaking when I probably won't get a better mark :p
Well done Layne and Stars. Exactly Stars, and you want to do as well as you can with the other three as it'll be those that your uni offers are based on.
Woohoo well done Stars :D Thats awesome!
Well done Kasple :D You did excellently. Was it you who said about half the history paper being on the wrong topic?
2 more days.. I feel a bit sick thinking about it so I am going to go down to try and get my mind off it.. :(
I feel sick too. I did last night as well and I was still awake at 4 :(
i dont think unis really mind if you have varied subjects or not, youve done english which is a good subject to have so you should be fine :)
for gcse, they want you to get a B to do the subject and although they sometimes let you do it with a C, my school told us that if you got a C in maths theyd only consider you doing it for alevel if you did the higher paper instead of intermediate
yeh from what ive heard about primary school teaching you need at least 5 gcses grade C or above including maths, english and i think science as well, and i think you have to have done a national curriculum subject at alevel. i dont think it really matters how varied the subjects are, just as long as all your subjects werent things like sociology/psychology/media etc. if in doubt though, check on the uni or ucas website cos that will tell you what each specific uni requires :)
Good luck with GCSE results tomorrow, Kim and Spicy (and anybody else who is recieving them)... try not to worry about them - I'm sure you've all done great.
Yeah good luck tomorrow GCSE people :D
You'll be fine seriosuly and I bet you've aced them
Just think at the end of the day it'll be a big relief to finally know what you've got and even if you do rubbish (not that that'll happen) but as long as you know in yourself you put 100% effort into what you did don't worry about it. Exams aren't life or death situations :) They're just exams that yeah may/could throw you off route but at the end of the day can be fixed
You'll all do fab anyways so yeah GOOD LUCK :D:cheer:
Well said Kirsty, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if you did bad, you can always resit if you really want or need to. Teachers make out that exams are the most important things you will ever do but really they're just a means to an end. As long as you did ok in English and maths then don't worry about it.
I know its easy for me to say that but once you start doing A levels or similar you'll realise that GCSEs really aren't worth stressing about.
Good luck to everyone collecting their results tomorrow, I hope you all get what you want :D
I feel sick...
Looked up the GCSE equivalent to the CSE's my mum got. She won't have a leg to stand on to not be pleased about whatever I've got, she got the equivalent of a D and the rest E's. My dad doesn't have any qualifications so I guess I'll only get a drilling from myself, lol.
Desperate for certain grades in about 3 subjects and not so much with the others now, so I hope I won't end up too disappointed tomorrow.
As long as you're happy with your results, what other people think shouldn't matter.
