Good luck. Don't stress about it. Also don't forget your counterpart and theory test certificate (*remembers when Leanne forgot*).
Have you still got the Mini?
 Last time I bought everything and my driving instructor was like 'You don't need that...or that...' :p Don't worry I'll remember I'm paranoid about losing important stuff like when your at the airport and you know your passport is there but you keep checking
We sold the Mini, after repairing it. I have my sisters old Nissan Primera. My parents bought my sister a 2nd hand Vauxhall Corsa from the garage up the road. Nice little car.
Corsa's are nice. I have an old Punto. Compared to cars that my friends have, it is rather big inside.
I need to rebook my test. To be honest, I can't really be bothered. I do like driving but I'm scared of doing my test again *shudders thinking of the first two tests*
im like that with passports and tickets and stuff lol! it drives everyone mad but im always worried i wont have it (even though i know i do!). i also check my phones still in my bag everytime i go in my bag for something! i think ive lost the paper part of my driving licence, i dont know where i put it when it got sent through. ooooops thats not good! it must be in my house somewhere.............hopefully!
I passed :D with 9 minors  3 of them were mirrors signalling...but I put that down to being nervous, that's normally one of my strong points..
He sent me round about a gazillian mini roundabouts but no huge roundabouts which I was surprised because last time I had to through two. But on the whole it was ok...he was a fair instructor unlike the first one who was evil :ninja: :p
Don't think I'll try driving today, I don't know where my mum's hidden the P plates anyway  I'll probably drive up to the school tomorrow because that's not a long drive away.
But yeah...relieved I don't have to do it again! I'm going to take motorway lessons and pass plus when I get back from holiday in the meanwhile I'll just practice around my area.
Thanks for the good lucks everyone :)
:cheer: :cheer: Woohoo well done Stars! :D
Whoooo Well done Kasple :D :cheer: :cheer: :p
YAHOO!! Stars well done, when are you taking us all out for a spin.
Congratulations Kasple - I bet your over the moon!
Welllll done Kasple :D:D:D. I didn't even know you were doing it . I should read this thread more often! Haha.
So pleased for you :D:D xx
Well done stars happy safe driving......
Well done StarsofCCTV!
I still need to get my book :wall: Must remember to go to the bookshop!
Congrats Kasple :cheer:
I should really book my test again.
On a side note, the exhaust on my car fell off on Monday night when my brother in law was driving it. It cost £50 just for the front part
Uh ohh, darn cars! They're so flipping expensive!
Had another lesosn today, and it went soooo much better. My instructor said I drove really well and that my driving is really picking up so that sort of boosted my confidence :)
I started manouveres today too finally! Was supposed to do them last lesson but I had to get used to the new car first.
So I did "A Turn in the road" commonly known as 3 point turns. But they can't call it that because if you did the turn in over 3 points you failed... and they can't fail you on that now.. can only give you a minor... ahah see, I do listen! :D
I really need to book my theory now.. I jsut do not have the funds! I neeeeed a job !!
You can do a turn in the road in as many turns as you like without getting penalised.
When I did my last test, I did it in five. The examiner (who was a tw*t) said I could have done it in four  That's impossible. He gave me a serious for it as well  If it hadn't have been for that I would have passed. My instructor said I shouldn't have even got a minor for it but because she wasn't in the car with me there was nothing I could do.
Aww silly examiners! That's the part I'm most scared about for this exam if I'm, honest... you hear of some really horrible examiners, but then you hear of the nice ones too :)
My instructor did say like.. you can't be failed on it but the worst you should/would get is a minor. But thats somethign I can live with really :)
What an idiot examiner of course your allowed to do a five point turn!
Whenever I go out now I am constantly looking at cars and which one I like etc... ready to get one haha  Just need to go and get a job, save up and learn to drive first LOL!
Well today Dad got me the book and theory disk :D Now to start reading and learning! :D
I'm going to do that soon.. may as well do something remotely productive with the rest of the summer. Hope it doesn't all go out of my head by the time I start learning though as I still have about 5 months to wait.
i should really start learning at some point! but i dont wanna learn at uni cos all the roads are really hectic and busy. ill just have to wait til i finish uni i suppose, hopefully ill be able to afford it then too!
I think learning to drive in the UK is much better in Ireland, it seems much quicker.
I started driving over 3 and a half years ago. This is also how long it has been since I passed my theory test. I then applied for my driving test over a year and a half ago, I got notice of my test in May, but I wasn't going to be in the country so I cancelled it. Another 12 weeks passed and I got another date. I had my test on tuesday just gone, and I passed.
What I would advise is to read the book first and then use the cd-rom to test yourself. This is how I passed my theory test, and then in preparation for the driving test take loads and loads of lessons. Really try and practice as much as you can. It will all be worth it in the end.
I have a medical condition and I always say to people, "If I can do it, so can you."
My driving instructor informed me I am too difficult to teach... :o I am awkward behind the steering wheel... no surprises there! I haven't got anywhere with my lessons at all.. I can't even keep the car straight on the road, oh well..
My dad said to try again next year when I'm more mature.. :s but what difference is that gonna make! He's going to try teaching me he said, so I don't know, I will give it a shot again in the future!
Congratulations Babs! I have a medical condition too which makes it more difficult .. but on the dyspraxia site, it has specialist driving instructors and they let you learn in automatic cars so I might try that if getting taught by my dad doesn't work - I am determined to get it in the end!!
Thanks DaVeyWaVey
When I started I couldn't master the wheel at all. You just the confidence in yourself. I would recommend trying to learn in an automatic, even just to see how you get on in it.
Don't put it off, because you'll only think about it more. I know your dad is only looking out for you. My parents never had much patience with me when I started learning, but to be honest you just have to keep trying. You will get there in the end, and it will all be worth it.
Good luck with it all, I'm sure you will be fine
babs - that's exactly what I have my main problem with - the steering wheel! Turning it and just using it was all goohhy gahh to me! lol .. thanks :)
I too have a medical condition, and was planning to learn in an automatic anyway. Dad reckons I should try a manual first to see how I get on with it but I don't know... got 5 months to think about it, I guess.
Good on you, Dave. You shouldn't let one instructor put you off. My old taxi driver claims that he used to be a driving instructor and said I'd never get a provisional as I'm disabled  I'm sure there are people out there who have passed with far worse disabilities than I have. I'm sure you'll do better with your dad or a specialist instructor who would be better able to understand how dyspraxia affects you and have more patience to teach you.
thats a bit out of order of your driving instructor! surely theyre meant to be encouraging you to do well not criticising you?! hopefully itll work out with your dad teaching you or with another instructor. dont let it put you off learning, youll get there in the end :)
I never liked the look of manual for some reason.. Mum knows how to drive both but she's been driving an automatic for some time now and I prefer it.. I think it will be quicker to learn too.
Is it true that you have to know the basics of a manual car even if you want to drive an automatic?
Thanks! x
There is no real difference between manuels and automatics when you get going. All you have to learn that is extra is clutch control, the rest is the same whether you have a manual or automatic. So don't decide to learn in an automatic thinking it will be quicker or "easier", because its not much difference at all. Once you've learnt for a while, you don't think about gear changes, you just do them.
Dave, just be persistent. You have to work at these things, and your instructor just doesn't understand that. It sounds like you are struggling to link what you see and what you do with the wheel, and that can only be fixed by trying and trying again. Maybe some hand-eye co-ordination exercises might help as well, i don't know.
Never let anyone tell you you can't do something. Some people take longer than others to get used to controlling a car. My neighbour's friend took 11 years to pass her test. Persevere, you'll get there in the end. It will probably be worth having some lessons with your dad. If you don't feel like you're getting anywhere with your instructor then there's no point paying him good money when you can practice with your dad until you feel more confident.
This is all the medical conditions that could pose problems when driving. I'm not sure what disability you have but if it isn't on the list then you could ring the DVLA up and ask them.
I have to renew my license every three years until I'm 70 then every year after that because of my "disability."
thought id come and join this topic lol, as my dad has started taking me out driving lol, I think its been going ok, except i got confused with the clutch and the brake and nearly crashed, but luckily i didnt
For those of you who don't have me on Facebook... I failed my test today :p.
10 minors, 1 major - which was because I didn't use my handbrake when stopped on a hill; thus rolling back a bit. :( Wasn't too disappointed, especially as the thing I thought I'd fail on I did right :D (Reversing around a corner) :D.
Just annoys me that if that road was clear (which it usually is at 11ish, then I would have passed lmao!!!) Ah well, was good fun though :p But heck I was nervous in it.. I stalled twice, and my clutch foot just keep shaking lmao..
Ah never mind Lea. At least you gave it a go. Was that the first time you took your test?
