Emmerdale welcomes back one of its most popular characters next week as Aaron Livesy makes an unexpected return.
Aaron heads back from France after hearing that his old friend Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) is going off the rails, but his timing couldn't be worse as he interrupts a dangerous job that the farmer has taken on with Ross and Donna.
Here, Danny Miller - who plays Aaron - chats about his return storyline, what drew him back to Emmerdale and why his character is here to stay!
What has Aaron been up to since leaving the village?
"Aaron has been doing little bits and bobs while he's been over in France. He was in love with Ed when he went over there, but things didn't work out as much as he'd planned. It's a real case of Aaron having to swallow his pride and admit that it hasn't worked out for him.
"Aaron is a mechanic by trade and he was doing little bits and bobs with that for Ed's friends while he was away, but once the relationship broke down, so did his friendship with Ed's friends. He had to fend for himself then.
"In Aaron's eyes, he was always thinking of coming back at some point, it was just finding a way to do it. He got himself a bit of hotel work and a bit of cleaning work. That helped him to save up the money he needed to purchase a ticket in a false name to get him back over here."
What is it that brings Aaron back?
"Obviously Aaron is still on the run, but he gets various different calls from Moira and Chas saying that Adam is going off the rails. It seems that Adam is going down the track that Aaron was going down. Aaron will always be on that track himself because it's his personality to blow up every now and again, but he wants to stop Adam from doing the same thing.
"Once Aaron hears that Adam is in trouble, he comes back to talk to him and try to sort him out. From what Aaron has heard, Adam has been taking ketamine and making a move on Chas. Aaron knows that this isn't the Adam he left behind, so he's got to come back - and that's what he does. He wants to help Adam, but he's got no idea what he's getting himself into!"
How does Aaron react when he walks straight into Adam's dodgy job with Ross and Donna?
"Aaron has been watching Adam for a couple of days to see where he's going and what he's up to. I think he can piece together what's happening between him, Ross and Donna. Aaron hasn't met Ross before but he does know Donna, although he doesn't have much of a relationship with her.
"For Aaron to see all of this unfold before his eyes is a bit of a whirlwind, because the last time he left Adam, he was thanking Aaron for the opportunity of starting a new life. All Aaron can see is Adam wasting that opportunity, which was obviously not part of the plan!"
What will Aaron make of the new Bartons?
"Aaron hasn't crossed paths with all of them yet, but he's not a big fan of this Ross to start with, because he's the person who's got Adam into all of this mess.
"Ross has got this bad boy image and Aaron doesn't like it. He wants to put Ross in his place by standing up for himself and for Adam, who has just become this lost boy amongst the new Bartons. It's nice that Aaron comes in and has got Adam's back."
Do you think Aaron will be a good influence on Adam?
"Aaron has matured, but he's still got that side to him that explodes sometimes. That true temper that he always had is still there, but in terms of looking out at life, he has matured in the way that he's seen a bit of the world and how hard it is.
"I think there are ways that Aaron will be a good influence on Adam, but obviously Aaron has always got that side to him that turns - so he could be a bad influence on him in the future! But in the short-term and when he first comes back, I think he'll be a good influence."
Aaron taking the blame for the fire will also have to rear its head again…
"Absolutely, yeah. Obviously there's the fact that people still know of the fire in the village and they're still pointing the finger at Aaron. I think it's time for the truth to come out, but at what point, I don't know.
"Whatever happens, Aaron has obviously still got to answer for running away from the police and skipping bail, which is a serious offence. That will take a toll on Aaron and it'll be interesting to see how the police come down on him and what happens."
How will Chas react to her son's return?
"Chas adores Aaron, but I think the Aaron and Chas relationship will be hard. It's going to be difficult for Chas to accept that Aaron has come back without telling her. He's done it all off his own back, and Chas is obviously going to be angry about that.
"Chas always wants to know everything first but she never does! That'll be interesting to see, but in the long-run she'll be happy to see him."
How have fans reacted to the news of your return?
"As far as I'm concerned, the reaction has been great. I often got texts and tweets from people saying that they'd love to see Aaron back in the village, so it's nice that I've come back in off the back of someone else's storyline and it all seems well and good.
"A couple of people have maybe already guessed where Aaron is going to slip into, but it's great and it's all been positive feedback. I'm really happy that people are excited to see him as much as I am."
What tempted you to come back?
"When Emmerdale's producer Kate Oates approached my agent about it, it was very much story-driven. Kate said that she had this great storyline with Donna, along with Adam getting into trouble with drugs after finding out about his real dad.
"Kate said there was a nice gap that Aaron could slip into, so it was very much driven by that. It was hard to turn down, because Emmerdale is the best job I've ever done and I'm sure it always will be. It was hard to say no when I was asked. I just wanted to come back, as I'd done what I'd set out to do."
Your latest Scott & Bailey episodes will also be running at the same time as you're back in Emmerdale!
"Yes, on one show my character is in trouble with the police and on the other one he's solving the trouble for the police! It was a strange switch-over for me.
"It was about a week in between finishing filming Scott & Bailey and starting again at Emmerdale. The thing with my Scott & Bailey character Rob is that he's a really nice character who wouldn't say boo to a goose and hates confrontation, but with Aaron, he loves a fight and an argument!"
What was life away from the soap world like?
"I always said when I was leaving Emmerdale that I just wanted to go off, dip my toe into the water, see what it was like and see if I could make it out there. I did a fair few jobs. I said I wanted to do a bit of theatre, which I did, a bit of film, which I did, and a bit of drama, which I did.
"It's nice to come back, say I've done it and I'm happy to do it, but I'm also happy to play Aaron out for a while - for the foreseeable. I kind of missed Aaron as well - I missed playing him, but thank God we've managed to ditch the trackies now! He's still got that chavvy side to him, but he's not so chavvy where his jeans are in his socks! It's nice to see Aaron mature a little bit, but he's still got that bad boy and rebellious attitude."
Was it easy to switch back into the character's shoes?
"Yeah, it was weird. I was talking to Verity Rushworth, who plays Donna, and she was pretty much the same when she came back. In the first scene I did with Jeff Hordley and Steve Halliwell, who play Cain and Zak, it was weird because it felt as though I was a newcomer for about ten minutes. Once the first take was out of the way, it was like second nature again and like I'd never been away. It was like I'd taken a little two-week holiday and then come back again.
"It was really weird but refreshing. It was really easy for me and it was made even more so by the directors and everyone there who's just been so welcoming again. I'm chuffed to bits."

Emmerdale returnee Danny Miller has told Digital Spy that his character Aaron Livesy will have another big storyline later this year.
Speaking in an exclusive video interview with DS, the actor hinted that there are long-term plans for Aaron which will play out once he makes his return.
Aaron arrives back in Thursday night's episodes (August 14) to help his old friend Adam Barton in his time of need. However, he soon gets much more than he bargained for when he finds himself caught up in Donna Windsor's final dodgy job.
While his initial scenes see him heavily involved in Adam and Donna's troubles, Aaron is expected to take centre stage with a story of his own towards the end of the year.
Our exclusive video also sees Miller talk about how he was lured back to Emmerdale, whether his character's previous big stories can ever be matched, and why the show is re-exploring Aaron's self-harm issues.
Emmerdale airs Aaron's return episodes on Thursday (August 14) at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.

could someone please tell Danny Miller that putting his hand to his mouth, rubbing it and his chin twice in every scene does not constitute 'method acting'.....
Aaron is surprised - hand up, wipe mouth
Aaron is shocked - hand up, wipe mouth...

Aaron Livesy has a one-night stand with Finn Barton after being released from prison next week.
One thing leads to another after Aaron's big day in court sees him receive a suspended sentence, leading to some drunken celebrations at The Woolpack.
Here, Danny Miller - who plays Aaron - chats about his character's second chance and why his encounter with Finn will be strictly a one-off.
Having been in prison for a while, does Aaron now regret his decision to hand himself in?
"I don't think Aaron regrets his decision. Once Aaron makes a choice in his mind, you can't change it - it doesn't matter who you are or what you say! Aaron would have already thought about the consequences of his confession beforehand. He always knew that he would be kept in prison for a while after skipping bail the last time.
"I think Aaron may be regretting that he could have got away again, but he knows that he would have been all alone again if he'd ran away, so that was the whole reason he made this decision. The interesting thing about Aaron is that he's a stubborn person and he stands up for his rights, but in this case he knows that he's done wrong and he knows what he's got to do to put it right."
Next week, Edna pays a visit to Aaron in the build-up to his court appearance. Is he surprised to see her?
"Yes, I think Aaron is surprised. He does know about it beforehand because of the visiting order, but he is surprised to see her. I think he's also more surprised at what Edna has come in for. Obviously something has been playing on her mind, so she comes to talk to him.
"It's a case of Edna offloading a problem and Aaron having nothing better to do because he's locked up for 23 hours a day! He's just happy to talk to somebody."
Is Aaron shocked by what Edna tells him?
"Absolutely he's shocked. What Edna has to say involves another gay man and something that happened years ago. Aaron isn't someone who would stand on the front of a Gay Pride march, but he does know the ins and outs of what went on in the past. I think it disgusts Aaron when he finds out that Edna has done a particular thing in her past. He's flabbergasted by what she has to say, because he has to think about a world where being gay was illegal.
"Aaron listens to her for something to do and it is surprising that Edna would turn up, so there's a little bit of intrigue there."
Is Aaron expecting a prison sentence when his day in court arrives?
"Yes he is. At the end of the day, Aaron is set in his mind and is ready to go to prison. He knows that he has quite a past already, as he was previously in court for attacking Paddy and for the assisted suicide.
"Aaron has been there before and got away with it. That meant that he punished himself for it afterwards, because he felt that it didn't feel right to get away with things. He's ready this time to go to prison - it's just a case of how long for. But in the end, Aaron gets a one-year suspended sentence."
When Aaron returns to the village, he clashes with Ross again. Will those two ever make up?
"I don't know - they may well do because they are quite similar characters as they're both hot-headed. Aaron has always been a character who has an attitude of, 'Anything you can do, I can do better'. Even if that means he has to cut someone's brakes and they crash into a wall, so be it - that's the kind of person he is!
"Aaron has never been worried about anyone and he certainly isn't with Ross. He sees Ross as someone similar to the way he used to be himself. Ross seems to be passing the blame for Donna onto anyone else, because deep down he knows he was as much responsible for what happened himself.
"Aaron can understand that, but he knows he can deal with Ross if he needs to. The only thing he's got to do is keep his temper, as he can't hit Ross! If he does, he's heading to prison because of his suspended sentence. I think Ross knows that and will play on it…"
How does Aaron and Finn's one-night stand come about?
"Aaron is having a celebratory drink in The Woolpack after the court result and there's a bit of banter between him and Adam. They joke about how Aaron's already been with one of Adam's sisters and doesn't want to be going with his brother now!
"Aaron sees Finn and knows he's gay, but he's not interested in him. It's not the same for Finn, though - he's open-mouthed around Aaron for some reason! Finn fancies him and Aaron doesn't see anything there, but as the night goes on, he gets a bit more drunk and decides to take advantage of what's on offer."
Is it still the case that this won't develop into anything more?
"It won't, because Finn and Aaron are so different. Aaron wouldn't normally look twice at Finn, but I think everyone's been there at some point where you just have a one-night stand and it's done and dusted after that.
"We wanted to bury that - Aaron and Finn are two gay lads, but they don't have to be together just because they're gay. Finn isn't someone who Aaron would make a go of things with because they're completely different. It wouldn't be fitting - it'd be a bit cheeky to just put them together because they're both there. I'm quite happy that our producer Kate and the storyliners have said, 'Let's just get it dead and buried'."
Ross doesn't react well to any of this…
"No, Ross thinks Finn has been used by Aaron - and in some ways he has. Finn does come up after the one-night stand and asks if they can go for a drink, but Aaron's attitude is just, 'You're not my type, see you later'. Ross uses that as an excuse to have a go at Aaron, but Aaron can't do anything because of his suspended sentence."
Can Aaron be happy in the village again?
"Yeah, I think he can be. It'll take him a while because he's not the happiest person in the world and I don't think that'll ever change, but I think he'll just be content at being back again and certainly seeing Cain, Adam, Paddy and Chas on a regular basis.
"That'll help Aaron to be a more rounded person, but he's a grumpy sod when he wants to be and I think that'll always be him wherever he is."
What was it like for you to return to the village?
"It was emotional and overwhelming that I was back. I was always coming back in my eyes, I just didn't know when. After two years of being away, it did take me back a bit because I've got a lot of good memories there and also a lot of good achievements, if I can say so! It brought a lot back for me and it did make for quite an emotional morning.
"With Aaron coming back, he felt the same way. It brought back a lot of memories, but not necessarily good ones for him. He loves Paddy, Cain, Chas and Adam, but it's the fact that this is where everything happened with Jackson and his sexuality was first revealed. It's daunting, but I think he's quite chuffed that he's going back and he's going to face the music."
Have you liked the reaction to Aaron's return?
"Yeah - Twitter-wise, I've seen nothing but good stuff and it's been really refreshing to see people taking to the character so well again. I think Aaron has grown up and matured now - his bite's not there as much. He's happy to have an argument but he'd rather not. If it does happen, he'll just get on with it!"

Emmerdale aired Katie Sugden's exit scenes in Thursday night's double bill (February 5) as she fell to her death following an altercation with her enemy Robert at Wylie's Farm.
The tragic twist also marked the beginning of a huge dilemma for Aaron Livesy, who must now decide whether to help Robert (Ryan Hawley) cover up what really happened.
Digital Spy recently caught up with Danny Miller, who plays Aaron, for his reaction to the dramatic moment and a first insight into where things are heading next.
Are you excited about this new storyline for Aaron?
"I am, and I'm interested from all points of view. When stories end or a character leaves, it often triggers a new storyline - and Katie's death will spark new journeys for quite a few people. Lots of people in the village will be affected by Katie's death, but will they all think that it was an accident?
"For me as an actor, it's great to see that a storyline can branch off in so many different directions - for Aaron, Robert and particularly Andy because he's got some really big stuff ahead of him. For me as a fan of Emmerdale, I think people will be gripped by it and I'm looking forward to seeing how the viewers react."
How is Aaron feeling in the aftermath of Katie's death?
"At first Aaron is in absolute shock. He wasn't there when Katie fell to her death, but when he left the farm, he left a very deep and emotional conversation between Robert and Katie. The only reason that Aaron wanted to get out of there was because he couldn't believe what was coming out of Robert's mouth. Aaron's plan didn't go as he'd imagined, because he thought Robert would tell the truth about their relationship if people were going to find out anyway.
"It didn't go that way, though! Robert was backed into a corner and when a dog is backed into a corner, he's going to bark and bite. When Robert did that, he consequently hurt Aaron's feelings by saying that the affair was so meaningless to him.
"By that point, Aaron was done with it. He'd given Katie everything she wanted, so he thought his job there was done. So now that Aaron knows that Katie has died, he's absolutely shocked. If he'd known it was going to end that way, he'd never have left Robert and Katie alone at the farm."
Robert didn't necessarily mean for Katie to die, but does Aaron have suspicions over how far he might have gone?
"Aaron is asking lots of questions about what happened because he is so shellshocked. Robert gives a version of what happened, but as far as Aaron is concerned, he could be saying anything.
"Afterwards, you'll see that Aaron doesn't know how to deal with this situation because Robert quite manipulatively starts trying to put this on him. That's the character that Robert is - he's a slimeball and he'll take any way he can to get out of it. Aaron is almost drawn into that and he convinces himself that it was just as much his fault.
"I think Robert just wants to put the blame on everyone but himself. He's a selfish person, but that's what's so good about the character. That's what's so gripping and makes you angry when you watch! We've also seen in the past that Aaron doesn't cope well with guilt, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out too."
Are there any points where Aaron considers revealing the whole truth?
"There are a few pivotal moments in the storyline where Aaron might confess. Whenever his guilt gets to a point where he can't deal with it anymore, that's when he feels as though it might be time to say something."
Aaron's self-harm issues stemmed from guilt in the past. Is there a chance that could crop up again now?
"There's always a chance that it could. With the research we did last time, we learned that the self-harm always remains there as a memory. Aaron tried to get over it, but I think there's always that nature within him that it might happen again.
"It might not necessarily happen how people would imagine it. A lot of people think that self-harm is picking up a knife or a glass to cut yourself, but when we did the research, we realised that it was a lot more to do with a release of stress and anxiety by hurting yourself.
"They may revisit it, but it's not necessarily going to be Aaron cutting himself. People punch walls in frustration and that's a form of self-harm, so there'll always be those little moments that remind you of it. I'm confident that it will resurface for a little bit, but that's probably as much as I can say."
We've seen a very strong response to the Aaron and Robert storyline on Twitter and on the forums. Are you aware of the positive reaction?
"I guess I am, as I've been sent a lot of positive tweets from people who have been letting me know what they think about the storyline. It's nice for me as an actor to hear that and it's especially good for Ryan, who's a new addition to the show. He's not on Twitter, so I keep telling him that people are enjoying it.
"I also still get tweets from people talking about Jackson, so it is nice when people take to a new relationship because it is often hard to leave those things behind."
Lots of the Aaron and Robert fans feel there's a strong chemistry on-screen between the characters. Has that been easy to build up?
"The thing for us is that we want to make it as real as it should look. We want to do as much as we can in the scenes to get that relationship across. Ryan is new to the show, but he knew what kind of character Robert was from the start, so it wasn't like it was sprung on him after a week that his character would have a gay relationship. He's took on the part really well.
"When people say from an outsider's point of view that the chemistry is good and it looks real, it's nice to hear that we are doing it in the right way and we're forever grateful for that."
Will Aaron and Robert be a long-term storyline? The 'Robron' fans would like it to be…
"I'd love to answer that but I genuinely can't! These soap bosses keep their cards very close to their chests, so I genuinely don't know in the long-term. I'd like to think that the story will continue to take an arc, but I'm sure they're going to get caught at some point, unless they're constantly away from Emmerdale! If that happened, you'd be talking about a spinoff because I don't think the bosses are going to keep taking us to nice hotels every week! (Laughs.)
"I also don't think Robert would be as much of a character if he didn't have that backing he has at Home Farm with Chrissie, Lawrence and Lachlan. He's part of that family unit and it would be a whole new story if he did come out as bisexual or gay.
"It might go that way and it might not, but I also have to think about Aaron and at this point in time, Robert's lucky that he's not got a smack from him so far! It's been nice to play that Aaron is keeping his temper because I've had to play something else rather than just throwing a punch. It's been interesting to have to portray Aaron with held-back aggression, but it'd only get to a certain point before Aaron gave him a good hiding!
"There's plenty of directions the story could go in, so I think it's in the trusted hands of the people upstairs. I'm sure they'll do a great job as ever."
We've seen Aaron with Paddy a lot in the past few episodes, but more generally, their scenes have been quite rare since your return. Is there more to come for them?
"Yeah, definitely. Myself and Dominic [Brunt, who plays Paddy] have missed working with each other a lot. With the timing of when Aaron came back, Dominic had a lot of things going on outside of the show with his own film. Obviously Paddy and Rhona have also got their own little bubble that involves Vanessa, Marlon and Leo.
"It's nice that they've had a little break, but it is about time that we saw a little bit of surrogacy again with Paddy. This storyline will bring more of that to the viewers, because naturally Paddy is the person that Aaron confides in - moreso than Chas. That's the way it's always been. I hope there'll be more and more because I love working with Dom as much as you guys enjoy watching it, so fingers crossed for more of that!"
When you returned last summer, it was revealed that you were on a one-year contract. Would you like to stay beyond that?
"You never know what's round the corner. Tomorrow a new boss might take over and just decide that they've had enough of me! Then I wouldn't have a choice! (Laughs.) But if I always had a choice, I'd like to stay here for as long as I can blag it!
"Having a dip out of the show was lovely because I was able to do some dramas, a bit of theatre and a film. I felt as though I'd done quite a bit - they weren't exactly main parts, but I had a feel for the television world in different aspects and different sizes over the country in a short space of time.
"When the offer came to go back to Emmerdale, it wasn't something that I just wanted to dip back into. I wanted it to be long-term and quite luckily the producers did too, so I'll milk it for as long as I can!"

he should not have gone to the farm but straight to paddy and chas to confess all

Emmerdale's Aaron Livesy will call time on his relationship with Robert Sugden next week as the strain of recent events becomes too much for him to handle.
Viewers know that Robert (Ryan Hawley) recently played a vital role in the death of his sister-in-law Katie after she uncovered his affair and threatened to tell his wife Chrissie the truth.

Robert comes to see Aaron
Upcoming episodes will see Aaron (Danny Miller) struggle to cope with his guilt following his decision to help cover up the death.
As Chas's birthday approaches next week, she is in no mood to celebrate following her best friend's tragic demise and Aaron finds himself feeling the pressure more than ever.
To make matters worse, Chas also suspects that Aaron is seeing Robert once again, and Aaron later overhears his mum telling Paddy her concerns about Robert.
Knowing it can't go on any longer, Aaron is forced to make a big decision when Robert comes to see him. Aaron tells him it is over between them, but how will Robert react?
Emmerdale airs these scenes on Monday, February 23 at 7pm on ITV.

Emmerdale's Aaron Livesy will beat up his on-off lover Robert Sugden later this month as his inner turmoil escalates.
The village's mechanic unleashes his anger on Robert as he struggles to cope with his guilt over Katie Sugden's tragic death.
Aaron has spent the past few weeks desperately trying to punish himself by heading out on gruelling runs, which sees his self-harm problem reappear in a new form.
When Robert (Ryan Hawley) witnesses Aaron in an exhausted state and realises that something is wrong in an upcoming episode, he becomes concerned for his former lover's mental wellbeing.
In a shock twist, Robert later approaches Aaron and offers him a chance to let his anger out - putting himself forward to bear the brunt rather than see Aaron punish himself.
Although shocked that Robert is willing to become a punching bag for him, Aaron takes him up on the offer by giving him a vicious beating.
Danny Miller, who plays Aaron, recently confirmed that his character's storyline with Robert is far from over, and this could be the first sign of the pair becoming closer again.
Robert is clearly concerned for Aaron and acts out of care towards him, but there is bound to be a rocky road ahead for them as he still doesn't want to lose his ideal life at Home Farm with wife Chrissie.
