I have been watching a few episodes of the new house series since Ashes to Ashes have finished but I'm going to have to abandon it again in a couple of weeks as the new series of Heroes starts and it's on at the same time.

Johnny was the leader of a gang that came to the bay in 2006-ish. His brother Rocco was part of the gang but wanted out so Sally tried to help. Johnny told Rocco to kill Sally so he stabbed her. She survived (obviously). Ric killed Rocco and got sent down for it. He was inside with Johnny. So it was a revenge attack.
