Yeah i think thats why Deenis said that line "You stick with them and ill stick with me" because all his life he's basically been shut out and left to his own devises. He's learnt to be independant. I think because of his past from his abusive mother and his father leaving he's never really had much love so this thing with Sharon is all knew to him and he's trying ot deal with it but he's afraid she's going to up and leave like everyone else. I dont even think he's given her a chance to explain that it wasnt grant and phil who made her see it was Sam and Chrissie. Dennis just asumes she's shutting him out and opening doors to welcome the mitchels back in her life. But obviously its different for sharon, Thats not how she feels or what she's doing and dennis doesnt see that and sharon doesnt see that either so she cant confront dennis about it.
