Rakesh Kotecha remains determined to protect his son Kirin in the wake of the death of Tess Harris – but he could be playing with fire, especially when Paddy Kirk figures out what is going on.
The drama kicks off when Rakesh receives a shocking letter from Kirin in the post and a conflicted Priya is unsure over whether to help Rakesh to destroy it – or to call him out for covering up a crime.
Rakesh later hears that Ross Barton is hunting for Kirin and may contact the police and, when Kirin’s car is discovered burnt out by police, it seems like the game may be up for the runaway youngster.
Priya feels deeply uneasy when she hears her husband to be lying to the authorities.
Meanwhile, Paddy reckons that Kirin’s vanishing act proves that he killed Tess and is furious when he believes that Rakesh is covering things up. But while Rhona forbids him from interfering and calling the police, will Paddy take heed of her wishes?
The police later turn up to confront Rakesh over the letter, leaving him in hot water just moments after he is suspended from work.

Rakesh soon gets suspended from his legal job when his employers become aware that the police are investigating him about his involvement with his son Kirin's disappearance following the hit and run car incident in which Tess Harris died.
Pasha Bocarie [Rakesh] gave a recent interview to Inside Soap about his latest storyline involving his son, Kirin.
With no job, bills flooding in for his redevelopment of Mill Cottage and a wedding to Priya to pay for, Rakesh's protection of Kirin is set to cost him dearly. But his financial issues are the least of his troubles right now...
"Never in his wildest dreams did Rakesh expect his life to be like this," shares Pasha. "He's usually in control but right now, when there is so much at stake, he has no control. Maybe it's karma. This is definitely a low point for Rakesh, but he's a survivor - and the audience is definitely about to see a different side to him..."

Emmerdale's Rakesh Kotecha will embark on his most shocking scheme yet next week, as he ruthlessly sets fire to Mill Cottage.
Rakesh sparks danger and destruction in the village when he decides that a risky arson plan is the answer to his latest problems.
A dramatic new storyline on the ITV soap will see the disgraced lawyer hit with more bad news, as he learns that Mill Cottage is a write-off due to a serious dry rot problem.
All of Rakesh's money is now tied up with the property as he's recently decided to have it converted into flats. Quickly realising that he is facing financial ruin, Rakesh decides to set fire to the cottage in a reckless insurance scam.

After spraying graffiti and smashing the place up to cover his own tracks, Rakesh pours white spirits around the building before striking a match and rushing out.
As the flames begin to spread, though, what Rakesh doesn't realise is that Mill Cottage's former resident Nicola King is hiding upstairs.
Nicola has sneaked in to retrieve a bag of sex toys (yep, really) after getting passionate with her husband Jimmy in the empty building the night before.
Once Rakesh has gone, Nicola is left to face the flames all by herself but disaster strikes when a box of white spirits explodes, bringing down scaffolding and knocking her out.

As Nicola screams for help, she catches the attention of Ronnie Hale and Dan Spencer, who both hurry to the burning building and make their way inside. But will everyone make it out unscathed?
Pasha Bocarie, who plays Rakesh, revealed: "Rakesh starts the fire because all of the money that he has poured into Mill Cottage is about to go down the drain. Ronnie tells him that the building is infested with dry rot, which means it's absolutely worthless and he's lost all of his money. Ronnie is refusing to do any work there because it's too dangerous.
"Starting the fire is literally the only way out for Rakesh. He's got nothing left. He hasn't got a job, so it's probably the last resort for him to recover some money and stay afloat.
"Rakesh reads something in the insurance form which says that if there's a fire, he'll get a certain amount of money. That amount would actually cover Rakesh for the dry rot and also enable him to get the money to the people he owes in the village."
Discussing the jaw-dropping moment that Rakesh unknowingly leaves Nicola in the burning building, Bocarie added: "Rakesh is not assuming anybody will be there, because it's supposed to be an empty building.
"Rakesh doesn't just torch the place, he absolutely demolishes it. That's why it's such a shock when he later sees Nicola pulled out on a stretcher. He's in disbelief because he realises there are more people inside the building.
"Rakesh feels really guilty afterwards. At this moment in time, he realises what he's done and money doesn't really compare to that. I think that becomes really apparent to him."

Nicola turns out to be one of the villagers most affected by the terrifying ordeal, as she struggles to move her right arm or leg while recovering in hospital in the aftermath.
The doctors tell Nicola that she'll have to undergo tests to determine whether there's any permanent damage, leaving fans on tenterhooks to discover her fate.
Promising big things from the high-stakes storyline, Bocarie added: "It's by far the most incredible thing I've done. The best way to describe this storyline is 'explosive' and everybody was so excited about it.
"Everyone had a chance to do something different and up their game. Really it was like being on a feature film. I've never seen anything like it.
"There was a massive explosion and you'll see the place being absolutely demolished by myself in a very fast and explosive action sequence. I think you're going to be on the edge of your seats."

Emmerdale's Rakesh Kotecha could be making another big mistake as he turns to gambling in a bid to solve his desperate financial situation next week.
Viewers know Rakesh (Pasha Bocarie) was responsible for starting the blaze at Mill Cottage last month after deciding that the risky arson plan was the only way out of his crisis. However, the scheme has monumentally backfired on him, as the suspicious insurers have since refused to pay out.
With Priya pushing him about chasing up the insurance company, a stressed Rakesh spots an opportunity when Dan invites him, Rishi and Rodney for a poker night.
At Dale Head, Rakesh is on a winning streak when Pierce arrives to join the game and Rodney suggests they up the stakes.
Knowing he needs money quick, Rakesh impulsively bets £500, but everyone is surprised when Pierce equals it.
However, when Rakesh wins again, Pierce dares him to up the stakes and the two men start the betting at two grand. With the stakes higher than ever, Rakesh and Pierce go all in, but who will come out on top? And is Rakesh playing a very risky game here?

Rakesh Kotecha will hit rock bottom next week as he finds himself accused of a secret affair with Chrissie White.
Rakesh (Pasha Bocarie) comes under close scrutiny from his wife Priya after it's revealed that he's been secretly stealing money from the factory.
While Rakesh has only been trying to settle his mounting debts, Priya has another theory and thinks the strange financial transactions are actually proof he's been having an affair.
This seems to be confirmed when Priya takes a sneaky look at Chrissie's phone and finds the pictures she took when she lured Rakesh into a honey-trap a few weeks ago.
Fiona Wade, who plays Priya, revealed: "Rakesh and Chrissie have always had a friendship that Priya has been very suspicious about. Women's intuition is never wrong!
"Priya is waiting for Rakesh to come home after his time away and she's trying to give him a birthday party too, but there have been a few comments from Chrissie that have made her suspicious.
"Priya has also struggled to get hold of Rakesh while he's been away and she thinks he's having an affair. She manages to get hold of Chrissie's phone and happens to see a picture of Rakesh and Chrissie together, from when Chrissie tried to entice him into bed.
"Obviously that didn't happen, but Priya sees the picture and everything is confirmed in her eyes.
"Priya is mad and livid, so she gives Rakesh a hard slap in The Woolpack when she sees him. He arrives back and he thought he was coming back to a warm welcome!
"But Priya is a strong and feisty woman and she knows something is not quite right with her husband. She isn't going to stop until she finds out what."
Priya's fury leaves Rakesh with a massive decision to make. He can either let Priya think he's a love cheat, or confess to the real story - including his serious debt problems and how he used arson as a quick fix to deal with them.
Rakesh also considers a surprising third option when he checks his life insurance and comes up with a drastic - and potentially tragic - final solution to his problems.
As Rakesh writes Priya a heartbreaking letter, will he go through with what he's decided? Or is it time to finally tell Priya everything?
Fiona added: "I think Priya will go crazy when she finds out everything. The betrayal is awful - he's told lies, he's burned down Mill Cottage, he's taken money from the factory. That is all horrendous and I don't know how Rakesh is going to get out of this one.
"That slap in The Woolpack is one thing, but when Priya finds out the rest, I can't imagine what she's going to do.
"I do think Priya would be more understanding if she had known all of this from the beginning. But the longer it's going on, the more lies Rakesh is telling.
"I think audiences will feel for Rakesh next week - and rightly so, as he's been through a lot. But Priya has also got to protect her daughter and she's got to protect herself, because as we've seen, the situation is making her sick.
"Priya will be there for Rakesh, but she'll be looking after herself as well."

Emmerdale's Rakesh Kotecha faces a terrifying situation next week as he's attacked and kidnapped by a mystery culprit.
The shocking turn of events comes shortly after Rakesh has gone public over his reunion with his wife Priya Sharma, which clearly hasn't gone down well with everyone.
Priya's father Rishi and brother Jai are both livid when they hear that she's given Rakesh another chance, while Jimmy and Nicola King aren't pleased either as they haven't forgiven him for starting last year's Mill Cottage fire.
Even David Metcalfe is a potential suspect, as he doesn't want Priya (Fiona Wade) to move away with their baby daughter Amba when Rakesh takes a new job overseas.

With the tension mounting, someone decides to take drastic action by attacking Rakesh and holding him captive while he's bound and gagged.
Surprisingly that's just the start of it, with the situation quickly escalating when things spiral even further out of control.
Pasha Bocarie, who plays Rakesh, revealed: "These scenes were very intense to film. I think fans are really going to be surprised and shocked by them.
"They won't be disappointed because there's a lot of action. It's very much like a dark comedy. Just when you think it's light, it gets very dark and very serious. It's well-written and well-directed.
"There's also a big stunt involved and I did part of that myself. It was one of the riskiest things I've ever done. Filming that was an adrenaline rush. I love a challenge and I trusted everyone there to make sure that it was done properly.
"Days like that are ones that everyone looks forward to - when you get to do something different and push boundaries. Both of us involved in this were really excited about this scene - and we really pushed ourselves to the limits."

Discussing who the culprit could be, Pasha laughed: "There's a list of people who want to get Rakesh, so it could be anyone really! Rakesh is frightened for his life because things turn nasty when you least expect it. It gets out of control and that's when Rakesh starts to worry."
Pasha also answered two more burning Emmerdale questions - is Rakesh really leaving the village to start his new job? And will he ever be forgiven by the Sharmas?
He explained: "It's a difficult situation, because Rakesh knows that if he goes away, Priya would have to leave her family and Amba behind. He doesn't want that to happen. So even though it might have been the easiest thing to do, he realises that he has to stick around.
"I don't really think he'll ever be fully accepted by the Sharmas again, though. He's going to always have a problem with Jai. They've always had history and there's probably only room for one black sheep! But Rakesh just wants to have his own life with Priya, so it doesn't bother him if her family don't accept him."
