I don't want to put you off buying the book, swmc66, but there was a one-way system even in the 1950s round the Narroway, Amhurst Road, Dalston Lane triangle......

..........
I live in Ilford Essex and work in london boroughs of Newham, Waltham Forest and Barking and Dagenham. Have had to go to Hackney for work here and there over the years. Always get lost but I have my sat nav now. Had to do some consultation work with patients when they were moving their community dental services in that very old hospital (St Leonards i think)To a new all purpose building with no thought given to parking.not so long ago.
Are you aware of Newham Parent Book shop? They support a lot of writers. Sometimes they organise readings which i have gone to. I love my books.

Its known by just newham bookshop. I was refering to its old name.
Yes, we "follow" each other on Twitter.
So you know the lovely Vivian. The women thinks I am mad as i keep going in to buy copies of the same book. I must have bought it 20 times!
I've taken the plunge and pre-ordered your new book Norman. I'm excited to read it! :)
Its ...the Boy with the Topknot by Sathnam Sanghera. I have got it as a gift for people many times over and also replace mine when they take it too.
Real life moving story with a lot of humour by a sikh Times newspaper journalist. First time I read a book I could relate to.

Went to a hospital with my 19 yr old daughter today as she has been complaining about difficulties breathing especially at night. They did the xray and blood test recently. Her nose swells internally restricting breathing. They said she is allergic to grass! I did'nt know you could be allergic to grass.
I think.grass pollen is most common allergen.
When nose is affected can be called Allergic
Rhinitis. Can be seasonal or throughout the
year dependent on cause.
If u put Allergic Rhinitis into search u might
find helpful info on.a health website.
I hope a solution is found for daughter soon.
My sister was told years ago when a teenager
that she was allergic to.her own perpiration!!
It caused dreadful rashes etc but it did stop.
The human body can do strange things.

That must have been awful for your sister. Glad it stopped. Thanks for the info maidmarian.
Have you given up your telly work Parkerman?
I hope your daughter's feeling better. I've been having hay fever symptoms recently, and my asthma's been worse than usual (same for my mum), so we must be allergic to grass pollen too. It may be worse than usual this year due to the mild October we've experience.
Thanks, I'll let you know. :)
I check on my neighbour who is 78 everyday. She had a fall and is at the mercy of carers from an agency. She has to pay for the shoddy service as well as she is over the threshold. Anyway it was interesting talking to her about the war this evening and her school days and rationing. She can remember getting her sweets rationed and queing up for penny buns at break times. I did'nt know they had pomegranates in Britain that early on. I thought they came from abroad.
She was good to me when I was ill in 2008/09. Went with me to a lot of medical appts. She has a good family network but the nearest live about 45 mins away. They check her the weekends. I think she will have to move now as this is the second fall from the stairs. Second time she has missed the last step. She does not want to leave though as she has lived here 50 years and lots of memories with her husband etc.
She is 78 and I am 48 but its like I am talking to someone my age. So age is irrelevant. She says she feels middle aged not old and that is how I see her. But her age hit home when I took her to see Englebert Humperdink at the Royal Albert Hall. Most people were there with their zimmer frames.

I do not seem to be able to delete this duplicate post :o
I have a 3000 word essay on Renaissance art to complete for Thursday... and procrastinating as usual I logged in for the first time in eons!
Hello everyone, new faces and old.
Amazingly I am now only six month away from completing my degree in classics and art history, I have also signed up for art classes at the ECA and my life is incredibly busy doing selfish, fun stuff like visiting art galleries around the UK and Europe on a regular basis.
Things have changed so much for me since I started the OU that I actually do not know any of the contestants on Strictly except Greg from Masterchef and Judy Murray :o
I hope that everyone is healthy and happy, Best Wishes Trinity x
Hi Trinity, Great to hear from you again and good news about nearly having completed your degree :)
This board has an echo...
Hi Perdy (and Parkerman)
Nice to hear from you too...gosh I can't think how long it has been. I am hoping to do an MA starting next year, I am on target at the moment, so failing an unexpected catastrophe I should be a student for a while yet :)
I can see how it must be annoying...
I now have 1500/3000 words and am on my final section of my assignment...honestly, I am such a procrastinator :o
So, where are Chloe, Jodie, Luna and Norman? ;)
Welcome back Trinity
Lovely to hear from you Trinity but back to work now!!!
