Congratulations Bryan! :)
I start driving lessons in March - my parents said my birthday present is a block of 10 lessons they will pay for me to learn.. I am quite nervous about driving - I just can't imagine myself driving on the road! :D
I thought I'd be rubbish and not be able to do it but then I though there's 30million drivers in this country so if they can do it so can I.
I love driving, it requires all my concentration so people are banned from talking to me in my car unless it's an emergency :D
Well Done Bry, i am awful driver, only had a bout two lessons and waiting for a bit.
aww dont worry Katy, everyone is at first, it comes to some faster than it does others, took me a while to bring it all together, it will all come about soon enough!
the only advice I can give is to get just as much practice away from your examiner, so if you can go out in a car with a parent or relative it will help loads. My problem was I never got to drive outside of lessons, so it took me a lot longer to be up to test standard!
I'm going to try really hard in the summer to get a few lessons in a block to try and learn more than just having loads dotted about. It doesn't helpo being skint though, but im not worrying yet i have loads of time.
Why don't you do an intensive week long course? I think it's £400 which includes food, accomodation, theory test and the actual test at the end of the week plus a full day of lessons every day.
For what you get it's a bargain. I've spent at least £1000 on my lessons, theory test and practical test.
Well done Bryan on your test
Manoveres do my head in. I need to practice going slower as i do them, otherwise i get all confused. I passed my theory before christmas though, which was good. And everything else i can do, its just a case of nailing these manoveres and getting some more road practice, i hope. I started learning about 3 and a half months ago. And i don't get any external road practice, so i don't think i'm doing too badly.
Is the hazard perception bit hard on the theory test? :p I've no idea how to revise for that bit!
It isn't hard as long as you keep looking at every area of the clip that a hazard might come up. I think the pass rate is 43/75 so you don't need to do too well.
I'd get a hazard perception CD-ROM to practice with. There's also a website that gives you two free clips to practice on, can't remember what its called. I'll try and find it.
Booked a driving lesson today.
Got my first one on Friday :D.
Good luck :D
I need to get on and rebook my test otherwise I'll never pass.
Awww make sure you're completely ready though :p Expensive to be keep doing it :p.
What did you fail on last time? Or did you just cancel it??
I pulled out on a box junction at a red light. Then it all fell apart. I was doing fine up until then and I would have passed had I not done it.
Oh dear.
Have you doubly practised the stuff you failed on :p.
Yeah. Wierd thing is I have never done that before, I don't know why I did it. I almost started crying when I realised.
Awww. Nerves probably!
Had my final pass plus lesson today! Went on the motorway, was really nervous before the lesson, but I really enjoyed it! :D Now I just have to wait for my certifciate and i'll have a very nice discount on my car insurance :cheer:
Well done, congratulations on getting the pass. Enjoy your driving, everybody should just remember not to drink and drive, I know somebody who had his driving licence for 6 weeks before being caught 3 times over the limit. He got very fit the next two years walking to bus stops etc. and to work in addition to uni stuff to be able to pay off the fine. :thumbsdow
Just be careful when you are driving. I know you can't wait to get behind the wheel for real, but I work in the motor vehicle department at college and the amount of young lads who have passed their test only to crash the car less than a month after passing their test is unbelieveable.
I don't know if I've told you guys this before. My parents are friends with a couple who own a garage. The father bought their son a brand new sports car. Two days later he took it for a spin with his best friend. He lost control of the car at high speed, went straight into an electricity substation and killed them both instantly. One was 20, the other 21. The family of the passenger blame the father for buying him the car, they refused to go to the funeral and banned them from going to their son's funeral. There is still so much anger between the two families now, almost two years on.
The father of the driver had a breakdown a few months after the funeral and split up with his wife.
Its a terrible waste of two lives, it could have been prevented if they had chosen a safer road (it was icy and had lots of bends) and not driven so fast.
I've been practising/revising for my theory test (haven't booked it yet though).. but was just wondering.. the program that I have, the information that you learn from has stuff for motorcyclists mixed in with it... in my theory test will I have to know the motorcycle stuff???
Nope, you only need to know the Category B motor vehicle stuff.
Thanks. That's alright then. Cause earlier I was on one of the sections and was reading through the motorcycle stuff, and I got SO confused :p (it was about maintaining your bike, and bike safety, etc). So I just skipped it. Now I know that I actually CAN skip it! :D
Whooooo my friend passed her test today :D Now she can drive us both to work
Woo! Congrats to her :D
My test is in two weeks....eep. :ninja:
I still haven't got round to booking my third test. I can't really be bothered at the moment. I'm not in the right frame of mind for passing tests. I just keep failing at things so I'm going to leave it a while until I feel more confident about myself.
I'm trying to book my theory at the moment... what's my lisence number? Is it the one on the back at the bottom?
Actually just found it.. number 5? Do I include the PANTO bit (which is the part of my surname..)
Yeah, it'll be the first (up to) six letters of your surname followed by six numbers then two letters, one number and two letters. Thats what mine is anyway.
Although I have a driving licence, I occasionally check up on my theory knowledge under www.theory-tests.co.uk, it is free and when I did it the first time after driving for, ermmm, a couple of years  I actually failed. It is amazing how much I forgot.
Booked my theory :| 30th April. So gonna be doing alot of revising for it . I actually passed a few of the mock tests for once yesterday!! :D.
i am currently doing my theory it is very confusing being havig driving lessons for a while now plus i got my first car before christmas
I can't wait 'till i'm old enough to drive! :D a year and 1/2!
I just took a mock theory test - just for the sake of it and got 28/35! Not too bed me thinks seeing as i've never been behind the wheel. Actually I tell a lie I have reversed the family car down the drive so someone else could get in!
I am sooooo going to fail my theory! I can feel it. I thought booking it would entice me to actually revise. But it hasn't. Going to TRY and spend at least 2 hours a night looking at it from tonight though. Good thing is that I have actually passed some mock tests.. bad thing is... my mate lent me the cd and she did her's last year.. so it's an old one now, only 35 questions!!! So ideally I should get 35/35 on all the 6 mocks, so that I have more confidence that I will pass! How many questions is it now? Is it 50??? How long do you have now also??
Its 50 questions for the theory, you need to get 43 right. You have ten hazard clips worth 75 marks, you need to get 47 marks to pass the test.
If you pass one part of the test you have to do both again. I can't remember how long you have, its more than an hour.
I shouldn't worry too much. The theory is mostly common sense. You'll pick loads up from just driving round town reading road signs.
Yeah you will. The official DSA theory CD will help you loads aswell.
I have my practical test next week, is there anything instructors particularly pick on? Parking...Roundabouts? What are majors and what are minors? :p
Keep both your hands on the wheel at all times unless you are changing gear. Don't go over the speed limit. Don't pull out unless you are sure that you won't crash and kill someone. When you do a box park you don't have to be straight, you just need to be within the white lines. Don't hold traffic up.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine.
