I'm reading Jill Mansell "Making your mind up" it's actually pretty good better than i though as i nicked it off my mum.
I am reading Damaged by Cathy Glass.True story.
Although Jodie is only eight years old, she is violent, aggressive, and has already been through numerous foster families. Her last hope is Cathy Glass. At the Social Services office, Cathy (an experienced foster carer) is pressured into taking Jodie as a new placement. Jodie's challenging behaviour has seen off five carers in four months. Despite her reservations, Cathy decides to accept Jodie to protect her from being placed in an institution. Jodie arrives, and her first act is to soil herself, and then wipe it on her face, grinning wickedly. Jodie meets Cathy's teenage children, and greets them with a sharp kick to the shins. That night, Cathy finds Jodie covered in blood, having cut her own wrist, and smeared the blood over her face. As Jodie begins to trust Cathy, her behaviour improves. Over time, with childish honesty, she reveals details of her abuse at the hands of her parents and other relatives. It becomes clear that Jodie's parents were involved in a sickening paedophile ring, with neighbours and Social Services ignoring the obvious signs. Unfortunately, Jodie becomes increasingly withdrawn, and it's clear she needs psychiatric therapy.Cathy urges the Social Services to provide funding, but instead, they decide to take Jodie away from her, and place her in a residential unit. Although the paedophile ring is investigated and brought to justice, Jodie's future is still up in the air. Cathy promises that she will stand by her no matter what - her love for the abandoned Jodie is unbreakable.
The best true story book Ive ever read is Bridge across my sorrows by Christina Noble.
Here's a review of the book!
For most of her childhood Christina Noble had lived in poverty with four siblings, a desperate mother and a drunken father. Her only escape from the harshness of life was her love of singing and dancing, and she dreamed of becoming an entertainer. After the sudden death of her mother she became responsible for her brother and sisters' health whilst her father was unable to do anything for them. Before long, the family was separated and each child was sent to a strict industrial school.
When Christina left her school, she lived as a street child in Dublin. Her life was always at risk, and one day she was abducted and raped by four men. She then decided to move to Birmingham to start a new life. She got married but her husband was always violent throughout their marriage. One night she had a dream that changed her life, and she decided to go to Vietnam to help the street children there.
After divorcing her first husband and leaving her second husband, she travelled to Vietnam and after a long struggle to cope with the culture shock, she convinced the people there that the street children were worthy of safety and shelter, and set up a hospital and school for them.
I think the woman should be sainted  She has her own foundation which works with the street children to give them safety and shelter.
That sounds really good, might have to get that. I think I saw it in Tesco this afternoon. Great place to buy paperback chart books cheeply (£3.73 for most)
Probably one of my favourite books is Jack Osbourne's autobiography, 21 Years Gone. He had so many problems, drug (illegal and prescription) and alcohol addictions, bullying, misfit because of his family's status and being severly dyslexic. He managed to turn his life around and make something of himself. After trying to kill himself he realised he needed help. If you've ever been in that place where it's impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel this book shows that whatever you're going through you can beat it and come out the other side. It made me cry in a lot of places but it also made me laugh towards the end.
I have read Marley and Me and really enjoyed it.The book i am now reading is Becoming Anna by Anna J Michener. It is an autobiography of the first 16 years of her life about the abuse she suffered from her family and the various mental intitutions she was put in by her family. I have not finnished it yet but so far it is really good and quite painful to read.
I've just finished Jill Mansell's Making Your Mind Up and have just started Frank Lampards autobiography, only read the first chapter so can't really comment on what it is like yet. I'm only hoping it's as good as Kelly Holmes autobiography as that was the best autobiography i have ever read.
havent really read anything in ages so as ive finished all my work for this year ive started reading "vanishing acts" by jodi picoult, its really good so far
I've just read Hannah's Gift, it was so sad i even cried a few times, it's about a girl who dies from Cancer at the age of 3 which is a true life story written by her mother.
Now i've just started Jill Mansells Falling For You.
I'm currently reading the Wicked novel so far so good :D
finished reading "vanishing acts", it was really good, now reading "my sisters keeper" also by jodi picoult, its about a girl whos suing her parents cos she was born specificially so that she could save her dying sister
Do you find Jodi Picoult waffles about nothing in particular? I read The Tenth Circle and every few pages she was talking about Eskimos and Alaska. I found it really boring and irrelevent to the story.
I'm reading Buried by Mark Billingham. It's an OK book, slightly boring. The pace has only just begun to pick up and I'm 350 pages in.
After that, it's back to the old Harry Potter. From start to finish
yep ill be reading harry potter when it comes out!
erm no not really, not read the tenth circle so cant really comment but the 2 books of hers that i have read havent waffled, well i dont think so anyway! finished "my sisters keeper" now, it was really good but so sad. not sure what im going to read next yet though
I am reading WATERMELON....by Marian Keyes same gal who wrote Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married,,
the book is great.. and I have been laughing so hard in nearly every chapter..
im sticking with the jodi picoult books lol! read "perfect match", it took a while to get into it but after that it was really good. now im reading "keeping faith" by jodi picoult, its ok so far but i dont think its as good as her other books
I'm taking Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk on holiday with me.
Loved the film so I'm going to try the book.
I'll let you all know if it's worth a read
I'm reading the Woman in Black. Its suuuch a great book. I'm only half way through it, and its already good. And seeing as i'm being forced to read it for my A Level english, it makes a change to actually enjoy it. Because normally they're very boring books.
I've not seen the play either yet, so i might give that a go soon. Its meant to be really creepy and scary.
Read it in four days, record time for me! Really good book, poses a lot of deep questions, yet is funny with it.
Fans of the film will love it, even though they know the twist. Those that haven't seen the film, read the book, you'll love it
I'm now reading another of Chuck Palahniuk's books - Choke. That's really good aswell, and I've heard they're making a movie out of it with Angelica Houston in it :D
Iam reading Abandoned by Anya Peters.. Its about a girl called Anya who was beaten, humiliated and sexually abused by her uncle from the age of 6...
i'm reading Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha by Roddy Doyle (it's old) we read it at school in like year 8, but i understand it much better now. I did'nt get some of the jokes back then.
Hi the book i'm reading at the moment is Friends for Life,by Jan Fennell. I like to read Marian Keyes books and Danelle Steel. Im going to start reading the house by Danillle Stelle next.
Im reading a book called Ugly at the moment. This is the blurb :
Constance's mother systematically abused her daughter, both physically and emotionally, throughout her childhood. Regularly beaten and starved, the girl was so desperate she took herself off to Social Services and tried to get taken into care. When that failed, she swallowed bleach 'because it kills all known germs and my mother always told me I was a germ'. When Constance was thirteen, her mother simply moved out, leaving her daughter to fend for herself: there was no gas, no electricity and no food. But somehow Constance found the courage to survive her terrible start in life. This is her heartrending - and ultimately triumphant - story.
I'm reading the fourth Artemis Fowl book, I know they're supposed to be for younger kids but I love them  lol
<3
I am currently reading 3 books.. Hannibal by Thomas Harris.. Felidae (which is about a cat detective, no really a cat who becomes a detective) and the secrets of Crickley hall by James Herbert.. all good
Air Babylon :) But i will be reading the last Harry Potter book in about 5 days :)
havent written in here in a while, finished "keeping faith", it got better as it went on but i dont think i liked it as much as her other books cos theres a lot of religious stuff in there and its mainly about whether this little girl is having conversations with god, and cos im not religious to me it seemed unrealistic
finished 2 other books as well, read "the tenth circle" and "salem falls" both by jodi picoult, and i enjoyed them both. "the tenth circle" was a bit different to her other books as although there was a crime, you found out what had happened through other situations in the book and not through a trial like in her other books. "salem falls" was really good, although i did guess the twist at the end
now im reading "the pact" by jodi picoult lol! ive read about three quarters of it so far and i think its one of her best books. it starts as the crime has been committed and keeps going back in time which i like. though im annoyed cos i already know the ending cos i read it in the back of one of her other books!
been reading loads of books recently cos i have nothing better to do lol! after this, im going to be reading the new harry potter book! :D
need to finish Choke before Harry Potter comes out, it's hard becuase it's quite a boring book now, what started as good, it's started to loose the plot, but I want to finish it before moving on to the Deathly Hallows, I will have to lock myself in a room with it tomorrow.
finished reading "the pact" now, id highly recommend it, great book
The last book I read was Harry Potter and the OOTP a few weeks back. I am going to make a start on Harry Potter and the HBP tonight or tomorrow..
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It's got to be the best of the books so far, and the start was better than that of the previous installments, which took about 50 pages to get into.
