Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis)

Marc Baylis had a "great first day back" filming on Coronations Street today (October 2), after spending nearly a year away from the soap.

It was announced back in August that the actor would return to our screens as killer Rob Donovan later this year.

Baylis has agreed to reprise his role as Rob for an exciting storyline which will see the villain calling the shots from his prison cell.

After spending a year behind bars for the murder of Tina McIntyre, Rob will start shaking up life on the street once again by sending out visiting orders for a number of the residents.

Baylis was last seen on Coronation Street in November last year, but show bosses have always made it clear that he could return further on down the line.

He still owns part of Barlow's Buys I imagine. Tracey might have sold part of the business to Tony but Rob's half wasn't hers to sell. I don't recall him ever selling it.

Starting to wonder that myself. He does remind me of Rob a little. I seem to remember reading that a family secret that would come out upon Rob's return would lead to Carla's departure (for Alison King's break.)

Was Carla more anti their mother than Rob or am I misremembering?

Coronation Street is preparing to welcome back Rob Donovan very soon, but it's definitely not good news for the Connor family.

Producer Stuart Blackburn spoke about Donovan's return in an interview with The Sun's TV Soap magazine, hinting that his reappearance will signal a "disaster" for those in his sights.

Marc Baylis returns to filming at Coronation Street: "Great first day back"

"It's a relatively short-term [return]," Blackburn said, "but you'd be amazed what a bored guy on the inside – who wants money and vengeance – can do when he puts his mind to it.

"He's had a lot of time to think things through while he's been in prison, and Carla and Tracy remain in his sights. After all, these are the two women that got him sent down."

He added: "Rob has lost a lot of his humanity and he's got nothing left to lose. He becomes a puppet master and that's going to be a disaster for the Connor family."

It was announced back in August that Marc Baylis would return to our screens as the killer later this year.

Baylis was last seen on Coronation Street in November 2014.

They dont give dates of birth for any of the
3 characters on wikia!
But age of actors playing parts is
Johnny 60 Paul 50 & Carla 42( she is meant to
be quite a bit older than Rob.!
Carla & Paul married in 1999.
So possible perhaps?

Coronation Street may well be set to bring back killer Rob Donovan in a shock twist – as actor Marc Baylis has been spotted arriving at ITV’s studios with a packed bag. Could Tracy Barlow be in for the shock of her life as her imprisoned ex ends up on the loose again?
Fans will recall that shady Rob pushed Tina McIntyre from a balcony during a row and then later finished her off with a metal bar. He was later arrested for the crime after his wedding day to Tracy fell apart.
More recently, Rob re-appeared in prison scenes that saw him blackmail Johnny Connor over the secret that he is Carla’s dad while also trying to woo Tracy back into his life.
Of course, Marc arriving at the studio is no proof that Rob is set for another dramatic comeback – he could be there for another project or even for a visit – although many fans are certainly hoping that he might be back to menace Weatherfield once more.
Show boss Kate Oates has previously brought back Peter Barlow, Adam Barlow, Daniel Osbourne (played by a new actor), Rosie Webster, Toyah Battersby and Brian Packham. Fans will have to stay tuned to see if villain Rob is on her list.
There are limited scenarios which could see Rob back given that he is incarcerated for years and, as ever, Corrie aren’t commenting on storyline rumours or speculation.

Maybe as with our Tracy he gets out on a technicality .... although Tracy keeps insisting she was found innocent rather than telling the truth :angry:

Actress Kate Ford has been spotted filming screens with her on-screen ex Rob Donovan, played by Marc Baylis.

He left the soap in 2016 after murdering Tina McIntyre, played by Michelle Keegan.

But the villain is soon to return to the soap after being spotted at the ITV studios in Manchester.

And it looks like he will be landing Tracy in a lot of trouble.

Police officers have been seen filming scenes with the pair, and Tracy's daughter Amy.

It seems that Rob has decided to track Tracy down and finally get his revenge.

Tracy called the police on her boyfriend when she discovered he had killed Tina.

Rob was sentenced to 25 years in prison but it looks like he has escaped.

Will he try to harm the mother and daughter?

Tracy has been seen being arrested by the police, so it is possible she has tried to harbour him.

The Corrie favourite may be trying to ease her guilty conscience by protecting him.

Let's hope she doesn't regret helping him out, as he seemed pretty keen to get even back in his scenes last year.

The mystery surrounding cobbles killer Rob Donovan's shock return to Weatherfield deepens, with new pictures suggesting that young Amy Barlow will be forced to run for her life!
As reported previously in Inside Soap, Rob will make a stunning comeback to the Street and hook up again with his ex-fiancée, Tracy. Stars Marc Baylis and Kate Ford have already filmed some dramatic scenes on location, where their characters were spotted sharing a snog before being set upon by armed cops.
"Coronation Street bosses are keeping tight-lipped on why exactly Rob has made a return," confirms our Weatherfield insider. "But those who end up coming into contact with him will find themselves in an extremely perilous situation. It's really explosive stuff!"

Coronation Street's Marc Baylis reacts to Rob Donovan's return: 'He could have pushed Ken'
Yet another suspect to add to the list!
He's baaack! Coronation Street aired an intriguing return for Rob Donovan on Wednesday night (April 19), as Tracy Barlow was seen paying a visit to her killer ex at the disused gym.
Rob has been on the run for a few weeks now and Tracy has thrown caution to the wind by helping him to avoid capture, which finally explains all of her strange behaviour recently.
We recently caught up with Marc Baylis, who plays Rob, to get the inside scoop on Corrie's latest big comeback.
How does it feel to be back in Corrie?
"Awesome. It's always great to come back and have a little play, and I do love playing Rob. When I got the call from Corrie's producer Kate Oates, we had a nice discussion about what was next for the character.
"That, for me, is important. I don't want to be going round in circles with Rob. I always want him to be on the front foot and that's exactly what this storyline is."
How did Rob escape from prison?
"It's not that Rob has hired a pneumatic drill, gone through the prison walls and sprinted for his life. It wasn't planned. An incident occurred which involved the police. There was a crash and he seized the opportunity."
As he's been out for a while, could Rob be a suspect in the Ken case?
"Absolutely!"
When you returned to the set, Corrie tried to hide you from paparazzi behind an umbrella!
"We just didn't want people to know too much about the story. It's a shame those pics were taken, because we wanted Rob's return to be a surprise. I feel it's cheated the audience of that moment."
Were you surprised to get the call to come back?
"To be honest, because of the relationship I've had with the show going on for five years now, I do know that anything is possible in Soapland and that's one of the things I love about this job. The possibilities are endless as far as I'm concerned, with Rob's future. So I'd be foolish if I didn't keep an eye on the show to see what's happening. I'm a massive fan."
How long are you back for?
"I'm not back permanently. What will develop from this is that Rob is a very different person to the last time. A lot has occurred over the last 18 months.
"Back then, he was very angry and bitter about the two women that he loved most in his life – one being the sibling, one being the love of his life – being responsible for him being sentenced to prison. The anger that was underneath him revealing that Johnny was Carla's dad is a very different Rob to what we see now.
"The storyline will develop about what exactly has been happening, but he's a very different man. There are similarities to the time when him and Carla were getting closer and when him and Tracy first got together. There's a bit more tenderness and a lot more unearthed about his and Tracy's relationship."
How easy has it been to step back into Rob's shoes?
"Although I've kept up with the show, I don't know where Rob's at, so it was really interesting for me to pick up the first few scripts and we also had chats before about the storyline. But until you see the words printed on the page, you don't know where that person's at.
"I've never found a problem with picking up the character again, but the pressure is whether I can make it real. The first scene you walk in and feel the pressure again. There's a bit of trepidation, but within two seconds you're straight back into it and it's like you've never left."
From the paparazzi pictures we've seen, we know that Rob, Tracy and Amy all end up going on the run soon. What can you tell us about those scenes?
"All I can say about that is that they are some of the favourite scenes that I've ever filmed on Corrie. In fact, through all of this storyline, there is some beautiful material that I really hope gives that other side to this whole set-up. Because it's not the easiest of scenarios they're in, and what we're trying to do is tell the love story.
"It is doomed, so it's a horrible scenario. If you're in love as passionately as they are with each other and it is genuine, the fact you know it can't go anywhere makes it kind of redundant in a way. But the feelings don't stop just because it's redundant, so that's the struggle we've enjoyed playing."
Does Rob have a plan now?
"It's a do-or-die situation that he's in, so it's very much off-the-cuff and minute-to-minute. There's a pace we're trying to tell the story at and a sense of urgency there. Rob is changing his mind all the time as to the right angle and what's the right thing to do. That, for me, is the question Rob always asks himself: what is the right thing to do?
"As we know, a lot of the time he makes the wrong decision! But that gives me something great to be able to play with Kate Ford [who plays Tracy]. We're playing two tainted characters and that gives us a lot of material to work with. There' s a bit of comedy that Rob and Tracy have in there as well."
You say it's do or die, so could this be the last stint for you?
"Who knows?"
What have you been up to since leaving Corrie?
"I've just finished co-producing a feature film, Arcadia, with a director friend of mine. That's a project that's taken up the last two and a half years. I was in it as well. I learnt masses and it's probably the biggest learning curve I've ever had, especially branching into new territory.
"We started developing it as I was playing out the tail end of the Tina story. To be there from concept right through to editing, you can't help but learn a lot. We've finally finished that and it's out now. Another film, called Redcon-1, is out later this year. So it's been nice to try different stuff."
If it was possible for Rob to come back permanently, would you?
"Absolutely. If that's something that would ever be on the table, then obviously I'd handle that conversation as with every other conversation I've had. I love playing the character, I love the show and if the producers and writers feel I have something I can offer to tell good stories on this show, I'm 100 percent behind that."
Do you think Rob still wants a happy-ever-after?
"Absolutely. With Rob and Carla's upbringing, there's never really been any form of stability there or a family unit. So both characters had so much turmoil, they only know what they know which shaped their adulthood. They do desperately want a happy, peaceful life, but because of their baggage, it will never happen."
Has it been bittersweet to come back and not have Alison King (Carla) on set?
"Absolutely. It reminded me of when I first started and I didn't know that she was going on leave. So I had to establish Rob without his closest link there.
"But for me the character didn't really take off until Ali was there, because we could play all the sibling stuff. But I would hope that we can do that at some point again in the future."
Is there anyone else other than Tracy who Rob comes into contact with?
"Well you've seen the pictures with Amy, so there's her. But all of this storyline is not really like being on Corrie, where you can just be around the street and bump into the other characters.
"All of this has been shot on location, bar about four scenes on the street, and we've shot it like a feature film. So far it's been so contained and their love story is the main focus. There's a few other characters in there, though..."

So instead of an annual prison storyline, we now have the annual appearances of Rob Donovan. Surprised Tracy has gone running after the last time. Happy to see him though, I wish they'd never made him the killer.

Hope there'll be a surprise return for Carla as I heard Kate Oates was trying to get her back.

I think tracy has nine lives when it comes to criminal justice. So how are they going to explain her not going down this time?

Coronation Street spoilers: Murder ending in store for Rob Donovan as he is targeted by a gang?
Coronation Street look like they could be preparing fans for a very final ending to runaway Rob Donovan’s story – as it has emerged that it isn’t just the police after him but a murderous gang too! After he blew the whistle about criminal goings on with the gang members in prison, he ended up as a target – and it sounds like this group are capable of murder.
After they launched a ferocious beating on Rob’s cellmate that drove him to contemplate suicide, Rob was transferred out of the prison for his own safety but he now believes that the crash he was involved in was the work of the gang putting a hit out on him.
For now, he is hoping that the police and the gang think that he drowned when the van went into the river but Tracy Barlow was quick to make it clear that she was less than happy with the ‘cast of the Sopranos’ potentially out to get them.
A gang never forgets and if it were to emerge that Rob survived the crash, their hunt for him would likely resume, if it had even stopped in the first place. And, with nowhere left to run, this could lead to Rob meeting a sticky end.
Speaking to us recently, actor Marc Baylis told us that he was sworn to secrecy over whether Rob lives or dies but hinted that his situation is ‘do or die’.
Could a bloody end for Rob be Corrie’s way of punishing him once and for all for what he did to Tina McIntyre? Or will Rob Donovan live to return another day?

We won't know if Carla does unless it gets mentioned ... so far I don´t think they do although it is strange the police talked to Tracy about his escape but not to Michelle and the other Connors

Coronation Street spoilers: Rob Donovan shot as his and Tracy’s escape ends in chaos?
Tracy Barlow and Rob Donovan’s bid to escape Coronation Street and the police – who are tailing them both due to Rob’s escape from prison and over suspicions that Tracy and Amy are hiding secrets about Ken’s attack – is about to end in chaos. Well, you didn’t expect anything else, did you?
With Tracy having whisked Amy away, the youngster is less than impressed to be spending her ‘holiday’ in a cottage in the Peak District, unaware that Rob is hiding out in the same cottage as them. Sending Amy out for some fresh air, Tracy assures Rob that she will explain everything to her soon. But before long, everything is thrown into disarray when a neighbour spots Rob and he is left feeling anxious.
Tracy assures Rob of her love for him and promises not to let him down while back on the Street, Ken is concerned by news that Tracy is in the frame for his attack as he and Steve McDonald mull over her actions and fear that she has gone on the run from police.
When they learn that Amy hasn’t been to school, Ken and Steve are left deeply worried, particularly when Tracy and Amy’s phones are found and Steve realises Amy’s passport is gone. As they report them missing to the police, Rob is planning his next move and meets up with a mate who urges him to ditch Tracy and Amy for a better chance of fleeing the country.
Rob then sees a missing persons appeal for Tracy and Amy on the TV and frantically tells Tracy she is all over the media and urges her to take Amy home and just leave him to run away alone.
Meanwhile, fed up of being cooped up, Amy has made a phone call to Steve – but how much detail has she given him? As she returns to the cottage, she can’t believe it when she sees Rob and Tracy has some explaining to do.
But with the police now closing in, Rob and Tracy have bigger worries as they realise Amy has told Steve where they are. As Rob freaks out, can they make their escape as the police arrive?
Recently released pictures showed armed police descending on the cottage and surrounding it – but there could well be some massive twists ahead before this particular story draws to a close…
Speaking to Metro.co.uk recently, Marc Baylis refused to give away whether this would be Rob’s last stint but teased that the situation is very much do or die for Rob. With nowhere else to turn, might he take rash action and end up on the wrong side of armed officers?
And what stance will Tracy take – will she try and flee too or is she bang to rights?
